Spirit generation on shielded elites

I noticed today that whenever I attack shielded leet packs (while the shield is active) I'm not generating spirit. Was this something just introducted or always there (but I was oblivious to it)?

Also to point out barbs can generate fury and keep their frenzy stack going but our sweeping winds drops.

But immortal minions with their shields give spirit and lets us keep SW up (not 100% sure of the latter).

As far as I know, attacking Invul or shielded won't generate us spirits
