I could use some help by those are have a little more knowledge then me. I am currently in Act 3 with my Monk and up to Ghom (though it was a struggle). I can kill the trash with no problem unless there just happens to be an abnormally large amount of mobs clustered. However I can't handle Rares or Champion packs for anything. They either out right kill me or I take so long kiting that they enrage and kill me.
I have a link to all my gear/stat/build at the bottom. I have decided to go the Life per Spirit Spent route over Life on Hit just because its something I enjoy more so I'd like to keep on that path. I have been trying a slightly different build since I have decided to go the LPSS route and have replaced ThunderClap with Quickening for the extra Spirit regen and have replaced Blinding Flash with Dashing Strike for the mobility. I am actually loving the build and feel I have more control over the mobility then I did before (could never skillfully use ThunderClap). So given all of that if you were in my shoes with about 6mil to upgrade 1 or multiple pieces what would you upgrade first and what would you look for on that piece of gear.
Short answer, more armor, resist, and crit damage. Maybe a weapon that you can socket with the highest green gem you can make/obtain or one with +crit damage. Right now your crits will do an average of 29k+14.Xk so 45k. With another +100% crit, your crits could be doing 29k+45k or 75k. You could go down to a 700dps weapon with tons of crit dmg in place of the one with the +145int and your damage should actually go up.
You could use the passive that gives you armor equal to your dex. That'll give you 1.6k more armor and probably about 10% more DR as a result. I get that you need more spirit for your life regen strat, but your DR is too low.
Honestly, I'm at the same spot as you, I have a LoH build with absolutely no +life on spirit spent, so we differ there, but I'm struggling through act 3 past the seigebreaker. Actually, I would still struggle in the bottom of bastion's keep too, but I'm farming act 2 now (which sucks, but I can kill at least 15 to 20 elites and kill kule and belial in less than an hour, so I think its worth it over farming act 1 which is so easy that it's boring). So, I'm interested in anyone else's solution that doesn't involve spending 100mil gold.
Look, there is no logical reason to run Chant of Resonance over Seize the Initiative, ever. I can explain why using maths. Obviously the extra mantra duration doesn't help you since you're spamming it, so you're running Chant for the spirit regen. You have 134 LpSS, so an extra 2 mana per second equates to 270 life per second if you're playing efficiently. Potato mentioned that STI will increase your damage reduction by "about 10%", but in reality it's over 20%. So it makes sense to use CoR over STI only if you're taking less than 270*5=1350 damage per second (because above that STI is reducing more than the additional heal from CoR). If you think that's the case in Act 3 (or even Act 1), you're on crack. You'll notice an immediate difference if you switch to STI, I promise.
Potato mentioned crit damage, which I don't necessarily agree with unless you find yourself a nuts weapon on the AH. What you need is crit chance. It won't help your base DPS as much as crit damage, but running Quickening and Cyclone @18% crit chance is weak. Go buy yourself some gloves and get that crit chance up to 25%. So many are being crafted that you can find Dex/IAS/Crit for very reasonable prices. After you do that, keep in mind that any increase in Crit Damage will have a huge effect on your dps. Your dps is fine for now, but if you want to faceroll enemies you'll eventually need CD.
Before that though, bump up your resistances. For someone using LpSS, it is way better to have 900 all resist and 25k health than 600 and 50k. So give up a little bit of Vit or Dex if necessary, but get some all resist on those items. I'd specifically look at helm, shoulders and amulet. The helm and ammy in particular are awful, that 15 LpSS isn't worth everything else you're giving up there. Small resist increases on each piece over time will really add up, you want at least 800 in the end.
EDIT: The guy above me gives good advice if you have like 100 million to spare. You will find this game way easier with LoH.
