Hello, I just managed to get upgrades to my gear. I'm sitting around 31k HP, 13K dps, 768 all resists, 360 LOH, 7.8k Armor with enchantress
and i find i can progress fairly well in act 2, (typical thunderclap+overawe build)
But yesterday i managed to find 2 elite packs that gave me headaches,
immobilize+firechains+repulsion+desecrator
After dying a couple of times and repairing i just left the act and returned to farm act I, i felt really undergeared even knowing i had good stats(a bit low DPS), so guys i need some advice here, is it normal to find some impossible packs or am i undergeared for Act 2?
First off, what class are you? How much gear is needed varies amongst the classes. Secondly, you seem to lack alot of dps, which will make it hard for you. I would lower some survivability for more damage tbh, no matter what class. 500 resist and 7k armor is enough for act 2.
And what on earth is a repulsion mob? Did they just add it or something?
Hello~ sry I Forgot to add i'm playing a Monk
yup, Knockback == "Repulsion"(i swear that they changed the tooltip or i need new glasses)
your stats are definitely good to play well and do very fine in act 2
i can't seem to guess what could be your problem other than 2 or 3 things that come to mind
1- your playstyle is not enough hit and run, you tend to stand around too much therefore you die because you don't try to run while waiting for your cooldowns to be ready again (mainly serenity and blinding flash)
2- your skill build has some bad choices? elaborate on what are you using for all 6 skills + runes + passives ??
3- you are using thunderclap in a wrong way, click on mobs to hit them while they have desecrate/plague/fire under their feet thus causing yourself unnecessary damage (try to be selective when to click and not just spam attack)
will respond with further input once you give feedback about your build
also, are there particular monster TYPES that give you problems (not affixes, but rather the mob type) because sometimes what you are doing wrong is not taking into account how to avoid damage from this particular kind of monster (dodging the overhead attack of fallen overlords when you see them jumping up to hit you by moving out of their hit, etc)
also, at other times the main problem is the playing space/level (if it's a small tight area where you can't when you need, or get stuck in objects or terrain, it can be tougher to fight certain packs under these conditions than if you were fighting them in an open space)
another thing to note, sometimes around the main elite pack there are normal ranged mobs with very high damage abilities (fire guardians in act 2 for example, the ones that do a main attack that sends a firebolt that explodes leaving a pool of fire on the ground) if some of these normal mobs are around you while you are focusing an elite/champion pack, their abilities might be what is causing you more damage than the elites themselves due to ignoring killing them first.
other tips include dealing with arcane sentry beams, always try to avoid them before they start spinning because you don't know in which direction the beam is going to start spinning so you shouldn't rely on it spinning the other way before moving out of its reach, also i know it's hard to do this ... but if you find that you are going to get hit by an arcane sentry beam and there is no other way to avoid it, you should run OPPOSITE to the direction the beam is coming from, that way it only hits you once while going through you fast to minimize damage taken, if you try to run AWAY it might be faster than you and it will keep following you and damaging you.
always avoid and keep an eye for frozen orbs before they explode, and run away from them (don't get too distracted if there are too many mobs at melee range and you can't see under your feet if there is an orb or not) if you see orbs spawning around you and you can't tell for sure if there is one underneath you, move just in case to a safe area (if you have serenity on cooldown and its ready, and you are unsure if you will get frozen or not, wait to get frozen FIRST before using it to break the freeze... because you might have no orbs under you and not get frozen... then this means you saved the serenity cooldown instead of wasting it)
save your blinding flash cooldown to interrupt important abilities that might cause you lots of damage (multiple fallen champions jumping up with their overhead axe attack to hit you, use the blind during their jump animation to cancel their attacks, and so on with other monsters who have special attack animations as well)
the monster type is that fast lacuni like creature that releases a cloud of toxic gas when dead they live in the waterlogged area northwest to the Oasis
they came in a pack of 4 with fire chains, desecrator, immobilize and knockback, the halls were really tight and their ability to immobilize allowed them to combo with their fire chains crossing over me all the time plus the desecrator damage
it was really hard to kite them because they could immobilize me add the fact that they are real fast by nature, i had 4 NV stacks when i reached them but managed to die 5-6 times what forced me to quit farming that Act
I think you'll have a boring if not difficult time getting thru A2 --- and I speak from experience, not expertise. I've gone back and forth between A1 and A2, not to mention considering quitting the game --- just because I had to make a detour around a particularly tough group. And I had much more than you of all stats except HP, and found that some of those champion mobs required a very fast kill, therefore a much higher DPS --- over 20K. The chain mobs that can stun or trap and then encircle you require that you can hit hard and run, hit hard and run --- surviving them can be impossible if they encircle you or there are arcane beams around. If you are like me, you've probably neglected crit chance and crit damage --- try some gear changes for that and see if it makes a difference. It's not hard or expensive (less than 1 million gold) to get your crit chance above 25% and damage over 150%. If it makes the game more enjoyable and fits your playstyle, you can work on the mega-million gear as you farm.
BTW: Why do people ask what class we're playing? Would someone other than a monk post in this forum?

I'm experiencing the same as you said
Random packs with annoying affixes are there to remember that i'm not safe in inferno, i think its the nature of the game and i accept that ~ i just started to think if my gear was not fine for it yet, but now i know im not the only one struggling with certain things
I'm going through the same thing... farming Act 1 with ease but finding myself dying to every rolling swipe a Lacuni champion does on me... I have a screenshot of me, on my own on a 2-man game (dude was repairing and re-gearing), against a champ Lacuni Illusionist mob that kept multiplying so it seemed the whole screen was filled. Died like 7 times but had a blast.
But to me being able to progress means being able to take on any mobs. So I don't bypass them and often just go back to farming Act 1. Which is not a big deal, this is the way the game was designed.
Even so, I expect to progress soon, as I have reached last night 25.9k HP, 7.8k armor, 428 all res, almost 20k dps with BoH buff. As for skills, since I can't take many hits from a particularly strong mob, I go with DR/Foresight, SW/Firestorm and MoE/Backlash. This allows me to kite effectively, since every thing I do gets buffed by Foresight and Firestorm has a huge radius that allows me to do damage all the time. I think I need a bit more All Res and some LoH to make those stupid Lacuni champs my bitches, though.
FYI: Your skill set and mine vary: I use M of Evasion with Hard Target --- if you get your DPS to 20K, you might consider it. I use Serenity with Ascension but I was running more than 1500 LoH and the extra second more than overcame the healing benefit --- besides with all your HP, 6-7k is only a spoonful of healing. Even with my goal of not exceeding 900 LoH, I'd still keep Ascension. Your Flash with Damage is better for you, but I just really get a kick out of Confused --- it does keep them guessing and sometimes they do kill each other.
I've got some of my old gear on the AH for sale --- trying to get some sucker to bite, so I can afford the right weapon. In the meantime while my lvl60 sits naked in the camp, I started another Monk. You know, sometimes you ask yourself, "If I knew then what I know now." (lol) Anyway, at lvl20, I'm having fun with Cyclone, Lashing Tail Kick and Blind and Confused --- it's crazy to run into the center of a group, suck them in, confuse them and then kick them out. Rinse and Repeat. Not sure what a lvl60 would do with it.

try this, mantra of healing with time of need instead of conviction + overawe
serenity with ascension rune (1 second of extra immunity = 1 second of being able to stand and damage them more before you start running again)
if you got more than 25% crit chance, use sweeping wind with cyclone rune, not bladestorm
this should overall allow you to survive more, as well as boost your dps (from the cyclones) to compensate for the loss of conviction overawe
also, the situation you describe is quite tough, if you were playing in a more open space vs those, you would probably have done fine (so don't feel too bad about it)
another tip : spam potions like there's no tomorrow, don't be afraid to waste the gold on a potion because in the end, the total cost for buying a full 100 potion stack is less than the gold you might pay for repairs if you die
if you have a potion cooldown up with no other options to heal, USE IT !

Conviction+Overawe
Thunderclap

BOH+dmg buff
Blinding Flash+dmg buff
Sweeping wind + bladestorm
transcendence+seize the initiative + owe
