Everyone who asked this question is called 'stupid' --- so go right ahead (lol).
I can't understand the answer that suggests that when a weapon stat says +40% damage and has a 1000 DPS why the +% is already included in the stat. In effect, the weapon would have been 715 DPS but the +40% makes it 1000. Why bother saying 40%? What else might the +40% affect? Does it affect the damage of the off-hand weapon? And why would +damage be a 'searchable' field in the AH?
If it were as it seemed to most logical people an addition of 40% to all damage that otherwise would be done, that would make more sense --- then crits, spells, etc. would benefit. But that sounds really too awesome.
Short follow-up: When would I 'search' for +Damage in the AH? Only weapons, not rings, etc., have it! So, a monk wielding a 1000 DPS weapon containing a 40% +Damage does the same exact amount of damage as a monk wielding a 1000 DPS weapon with no +Damage multiplier?
Long follow-up: I understand the math. And I agree that for a monk, particularly those of us fond of LoH, the weapon speed is important. I'll also point out that +damage is only a weapon stat, no other item seems to have it. Simply put, what you suggest is that +Damage should be completely ignored as a stat: I should only use the resultant DPS as a guide for selecting weapons. When someone mentions, therefore, that 25k DPS is required for A2 of Inferno, as an example, it shouldn't matter to me how the weapon and dexterity multiplier result in that 25k, whether it comes from a base damage with lots of multiplers or from a higher dps weapon with few multiplers ---- the final weapon DPS is all that matters. When some of my skills such as whirlwind produces cyclones that cause weapon damage, that weapon damage is based on the final weapon DPS, not the base DPS, correct? Again, it seems that +Damage is not something I'd ever 'search' for.
