The monk feels really boring/underpowered compared to the other four classes that i have played. But then again maybe he is the most gear dependent? I am not sure. Does anyone else feel this way?
Weapon dependent for every class. Wizard and DH felt weak for me, but that was because those were the only 2 I didn't have good weapons for while leveling. I gave my monk two 12+DPS 1handers, barb had two over 13 DPS. As soon as my witch doc hit level 5 and could equip his weapon he was killing things with grasp of the dead alone.
I think monk was a really strong class in the beta. I wasnt even close on dying on anything, teleporting around and using breath of heaven once I was the least damaged.
I get the feeling melee classes are strong in the beginning of diablo because they dont yet suffer so much from either not being able to do good dmg out of melee or being in constant melee of the monsters. Later on I think being in melee all the time will take its toll much more, remember they had to give barb and monk both 30% dmg reduction.
Also while wd had some lackluster skills (like the toads and the spiders), I bet they get much better later on when the right runes are placed in it. If you still think wd is weak use soul harvest spell on 5 mobs then use a fire bat with dire bat. It will bowl them down and anything else in sight.
What did annoy me with the wd though was the fact that skeleton king oneshotted my zombies with his sweep attacks. This means that the zombies will likely be shit on any boss, with the possible exception of when you specialize into them. That however will probably reduce your damage on the other spells.
I agree %100. Only played Beta this weekend, but Monk was by far the most fun to play. And I was not impressed with WD at all. Many of the skills were useless (maybe they will be better with high powered runes, but I don't know). I just used poison dart because the alternatives were bad. The stun/snare was pretty good. The dogs seem handy for single player, but like you said they get trashed by bosses (even with level 10 item that reduces damage to them by %25). I think WD would have a very hard time solo with big bosses.
I agree with the OP. The monk is a very underwhelming class.
He can be very powerful, but I don't think he's very fun to play.
I think the problem is simply the lack of AoE skills at the low levels, so every enemy needs to be clicked on and chased.

I tested every class: my favorite was DH - now I'm not sure which to play .....they all seem to be at the same level ...but Barb ...oh men...Barb with 2Hand ....ist was so....god mode like - you didn't even need to spend rage ..just cleave every thing down with one hits ...It was just overpowerd
...Monk good to, but I think mine wasn't well equiped ...it was a very slow killing with much dmg income

No not at all. I was actually getting the most kill streaks and simultaneous kills with the Monk.
I wasn't sure going into beta but after trying out all 5 classes I believe the monk is my number two. I really enjoyed the way he played. Of course I'm a little biased because I like the melee approach.
Monk and Doc are my 2 and 1 respectively, the Monk is the most mechanically challenging class to play so perhaps that has something to do with the great differences that people have playing with him? I could see why he would be boring or seem ineffective when not played very well, unlike the wiz or barb which play well in a hulk smash kind of way. Note on the Doc, My dogs never got 1 shot, although I would lose 1 per quest or so, it was not a problem even vs the SK at lvl9.

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...
I feel that meele (monk/barb) are so powerful feeling that ranged classes seem dull. I was certain during the last 3 years I would roll WD first but now i'm going monk.
I've been debating Monk and DH as a main at launch so I did a small test....
I grabed 2 packs one with knockback and one with nightmare and I bare fisted my way threw it and noticed I was chain cc'd with fraction of a second in between. So I attempted the same feat on a DH with the starter weapon (both chars were lvl 10) and the mobs were a walk in the park with caltrops. Now I understand that monk gets some form of breakout ability that hasn't been tested to see if it acts like a trinket in wow or if it must be used right before hit with the the ailment but either way thats only a 2-3 second solution to a situation that disables player control on such a large scale. A counter argument could be that if I blinded them it would have been easier but while not wearing any gear even if you try to get it out on c/d you still end up cc'd more than they are. I'm still going to roll monk first just because in any other situation it's more fun and I plan on playing in groups so it's not likely to cause a major issue.

I didn't play Wizard, was it better than WD?
there is people that think monk is the most bad ass so whatever
