Being the only other melee char aside to the barbarian, I'll probably gonna start my d3 play as a monk. I must say that my first char in d2 was the paladin, and since there is no pally (yet!) announced for the d3 exp, this is the best option for me:)
Love the general idea of auras (hope they will be even better organized than in d2) and the kind of hybrid-melee-caster class.
Only thing that makes me sad, well, more like unhappy, is that the monk doesnt actually have the graphic animation when hitting with his equipped weapons like the barbarian. Sure, it looks cool when using fist weapons or a Daibo and it goes right with the shaolin concept but i dunno, I feel like Blizzard put more effort in designing the barbarian.
I think i will actually play 2 classes at the same time due to the issue of me and my bro having different playing times. Where i have alot more ill prolly spend my solo time on the monk, but party time on eather a WD or Barb. But in essence, the monk will be my 'main' as i currently like the style of the class the most.
Monk looks quite awesome so far but i'm not quite sure just how much will you need to focus on defensive stats/abilities with it. Blizz said it will be important on nightmare and higher but guess ranged classes wont have to worry about it as much. Hope they balance this right.
Yes and yes. For me monk is the best so far, he can, in theory, with no problem farm inferno dif, comparing with other classes, plus, looks fun to play with this class (dont have beta access, so cant rly test and tell anything more)
I would definitely go for the monk. I mean since I was a little boy I loved all about shaolins which in fact are monks and I feel like the "Monk" class really defines who I am.I didn't get the chance to try any of the classes out yet, but I know monk suits me best. Peace and love everyone
hmm currently thinking about demon hunter , but dont know why ,never played beta but if not gonna try it until release then i will stick with deamon hunter then maybe monk, unlessthere will be a chance to try them both and decide
Yes, from what I could gather by viewing tons of videos (I still remain keyless ;)) it will certainly be my first character (suits my playstyle the best). Unless it is utter crap at high level it will be my main also.
A wizard and or demon hunter alt might follow. Don't really fancy the other two classes.

A train station is where the train stops.
On my desk, I've got a workstation...
I'm planning on Monk first for sure, I love melee classes in every game I've ever played but the ability to be strong support is huge for me also, as I'm planning on rolling with 2-3 friends a lot of the time.
Barbarian will probably be my second, as I am a melee addict...I'll also probably build my Barb to be more solo-oriented so I can level him while my friends are offline or whatever.
That said.. Witch Doctor looks pretty awesome too, and a beast for soloing...gonna be a tough choice
I posted this in another, similar topic, but for me, the monk will be my first character. I've always had a preference for fast hitting, but weak attacks (monk) over slow, & powerful attacks (barb). From what I've seen, love the playstyle so far!
Monk will definitely be my first character. Just seems to fluid but powerful but supporty but tanky but evasive. I just think they have a great variety of abilities that look like a ton of fun. I can't wait to play!
For some reason, to me, this thread screams "beta key hopeful post!"
Anyways, since it's here, let me partake. I will not be playing a monk first, though it looks like a great class. I will be playing a Wizard first, and it will most likely be my main. My GF will be running Demon Hunter. We plan on running with a Monk + one other class (most likely wiz).

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
Im gonna stick to a range char. since thats just the way i likle to play in diablo 1 and diablo 2, and most of the mmo i played.
My main is gonna be a witch doctor if a pet build works in inferno mode.
No i dont think Monk will be my first char. im pretty sure my first char will be the wizard but since i dont have a Beta Key for Diablo 3 i cannot tell what class i will like the most. but for the content i've seen i find the wizard, the most fun. but im pretty sure in diablo 3 that the Monk will be the most powerful in the higher lvls, and the wizard not so powerful. But none knows anything yet, wizard might get some boosts in the near future or monk might be nerfed. you never know.
Honestly I'm still torn, considering monk as a first for sure at the moment. However the barb and the DH are fairly high on my list as well, I very much like the style and feel of the DH, demonic powers ect, great feel; I also like the barbs generally role of being the one to lead the charge, soak up, and dish out damage. The monk I feel falls somewhere in the middle of style / finess and strength. Anyone have any opinions that could potentially sway me in one direction? It would be most appreciated =)
I've always been a melee player so I think it's time to give somthing else a go. I've always had a fascination with playing a battle mage and the closest I got to that was Skyrim. I just would'nt know how to start building one. Ill probably play a battle mage to get me started but its likely that my main character will be a barb though.
After playing diablo 2 with ama and sorc i though range class like DH or wizard gonna be my pick, but somehow i cant stop thinking about monk. The combo system and animations looks sweet. In d2 melee classes were always kinda weak on nightmare with all the dmg flying around while with sorc you could just stay at range aoeing everything. Maybe with more tight spaces and mobs attacking from all sides, d3 wont be so biased towards range. So monk probably gonna be my pick followed by DH.
i'm a big fan of melee classes, and after playing the beta i really liked the monk and WD. New playthroughs on patch 13 make the DH look a lot better, but i think i'm still torn between WD and the monk, probably leaning towards the monk because he's got the glow.
