Originally I was going to roll a Wizard or Demon Hunter come release, but the addition of runes and a few new spells for the Monk class has made my choice final.
Deadly reach with Piercing Trident = win.
Anyone else finding there self in the same situation?
I'd love to love the monk and play him as my first char but I've heard concerns about his fist-fighting abilities causing him to miraculously conceal his weapons and pop them back on in crazy intervals. I think I'd find this distracting. What do you think?

Yup! I totally agree. Blizz should make some kind of "hide" function for the monk's weapons, because it looks ridiculous the way it is now.
I really like the way all the classes look from what ive seen of the beta, sadly i dont have a key
Def going to make a wizard first just for the flashy effects and i like the armor/ character model of the female wizard the best.
I'm not a big fan of the spirit mechanic and the cost of some of the abilities currently. I don't know how things will end up at later stages in the game, but wave of light just doesn't seem worth the 100 spirit cost. I'm sure all of the resources across all classes will increase in pool size and regeneration (well maybe not fury) with affixes from later acts, we'll find out soon enough
it's a pain deciding which class to start with, 13 levels isn't really enough to make a good judgement call. One huge reason im starting wiz is for archon at 30 i think it's going to be a VERY fun skill to use.
I will probably have DH as main range and Monk as main melee character. Both seems to require a lot of movement and skill. Barb and Wizard is more about spamming same attack fast so in general brute force. But I think that Wizard female looks feels awesome with her personality and way she fights and same goes for barb and as I don't have beta yet my mind may change later on from DH & Monk to Wizard & Barb.
The monk is a great deal of fun. Wave of Light is terrible though. As someone else mentioned, in practice, ive found maximum killing power with fists combined with vulture kick. Every third strike with fists is an aoe punch, and can be folowed with 1-2 kicks for 225% or whatever for short range aoe. In practice this 1, 1, 1, 2, combo hits super hard, and kills very very fast. Using Wave of Light does little to nothing....ever.
in Addition, every 10 seconds you can aoe heal yourself and nearby party members, as well as AOE blind all monsters about every 15 seconds or so. I cant remember the cooldowns, but basically the monk can wade right and lead a group. We will see how she holds up farther into the game.
Just anecdotal observation after running up 3 lvl 13 monks, with 40+ damage rating.
I have decided my first character will be a monk, using the white CE dyes hopefully, and his name will either be whitefire, or whitefury and using a 2h staff.
I was also very very impressed with the barbarian.
Im going DH with my first character because of my inclination towards ranged archer heros. I love the necro from D2 and I am liking the WD, but the Monk is definately giving him a run for his money to be my second hero.
Yea i tried Crippling wave, wasnt really that impressed for some reason. I felt like i moved through the mobs and generated spirit for constant kicks faster with runed fists.
