Am I the only one that thinks monks have a massive potential for survivability in HC? I mean, no other class has heals like they do. They have immunity spells, can summon a companion for a small time, have mantras and runes that add to evasion and armor.
I really think they will be a top HC class, especially for solo folks.
Monks will be great for HC, and they will be great for SC Inferno... unless they get more nerfs. Breath of Heaven was put on a 15s CD and mantra of evasion was chopped down as well. They are still good, but they were ridiculously OP in the last patch, for what it's worth in beta.
Although Monks have really good dodge (when built right), and some pretty impressive healing power, keep in mind that they're a melee class. In many ways, they're far more risky to take into Hardcore....at least, that's the way it looks to me. The Barbarian can survive because they're just straight-up tougher than Monks, but Blizzard said not-too-long-ago that Barbarians were struggling at higher difficulties and that's why they were recently buffed in various ways.
The Monk needs such good survivability skills because Monks aren't as tough as Barbarians - they're gonna need all the fancy evasive skills they can get. That said yeah, Monks DO sound pretty good in HC...but I'd always be a little nervous having to dive face-first into the enemy to kill enemies in Hardcore :P.

Barbarians being tougher is just a personal opinion. Both are melee classes and both will need escape mechanisms to survive. Monks get better defensively by adding more dexterity - their offensive stat. Barbarians get better by adding vitality, which doesn't boost their offensive prowess. Monks' dps set can theoretically be their tanking set. I don't think that will be the case with Barbarians.
Ranged classes don't really have an advantage either. Mobs will teleport and do all sorts of things to close the ranged gap, so the chances of getting destroyed are just as high.
I think monks will make for an intense HC char, but I'm not sure if thats a good thing. Having dodge as their primary defense mechanism means that you'll experience damage bursts and luls against yourself; their fast movement speed and evasion/healing skills will really come into play at those inevitable times when you take a few big hits in a row. Warriors I think will make for a more laid-back HC char,(as if a laid-back HC char isn't a massive oxymoron) atleast in the sense that the damage you take should be easier to anticipate.

Stregth gives you Armor. So Barbs get Armor from their offensive stat
Ah ok, I didn't think about that. I was thinking about the passive which increases it from vitality, Nerves of Steel.
