I think the best sort of monk would be what some of you are saying: a combination between the Paladin, Assassin, and Druid. Maybe one skill tree from each class.
Monks - don't - fight (Monks are peaceful and against violence- sorry to you bullet proof monk fans out there) and any game that has a monk class ( guildwars) usually is boring. and Diablo3 isn't going to be boring.
Do some research on east-asian history and you'll learn about conflicts between the asian religions (namely buddhism, taosim, confucianism), they just don't compare to most other religions, especailly the more familiar Abrahamic ones.

Well, I guess there really isn't any other name for it. I don't know why it bugs me, really. It's kind of one of those unexplainable things.
You could call the class the 'Disciple', doesn't have the same baggage monk seems to.
I have to say, if they made this class, I really hope they use weapons, an unarmed class wouldn't seem to fit well. Many melee special abilities could be untied to weapon damage, but empty weapon slots like the D&D monk just doesn't feel right for Diablo...
Knuckle weapons would be good... Or even just use there fists and have the weapons as buffs... Like you know how Paladins get the shield dmg on there shields? Give a special monk thing on items kinda like that... Idk...
Maybe they could do knuckle weapons or even sort of ring typed weapons.
Its a possibility... Personally I didn't find having assassin only weapons added to d2, I doubt another class would use those... But again I'm sure some people are of a completely different mindset and liked that system. If staffs were also capable melee weapons they would work well. monks attack animation would just have to differ from a wizards (or whoever else might use one)
Most martial arts (especially the Chinese ones I'm familiar with) use a wide variety of swords, spears, polearms, etc... so weapons shouldn't be a problem. Combine these weapons with skills like the assassin's kick and such and you've got a class that still feels like a monk.
Ya I'd kind of like to see monks use spears AND staves. Definitely wield them different than other classes though. In D2 characters just swung staffs like they were squishing bugs.

Yeah that'd be kind of neat, maybe they could get their damage from some variable on rings or something.
Gloves with studded knuckles, brass knuckles, spiked gloves. Things like that. I just wouldn't want to see claws or katar typed because that is Assassin based.
Martial Arts or Staff/Spear fighting is what I'd like to see melee wise.
Actually for fist weapon types I think it'd be cool to see prayer beads or something. They could wrap them around their fist and it grant them holy power to enhance their hand to hand capabilities.
Something like this:
The polearm, the prayer beads, the rope tightly clenched in his fist carrying his jug I guess.
Or, going back to the shield idea, give the actual gloves weapon stats...
Then remove weapons for Monks but give them a skill that ups there stats a little bit due to the loss of the weapons, thus not allowing monks to be underpowered vs other classes.

that'd work well also. That's how kick attacks worked with assassins I believe. Boots decided damage.
I could see a monk class being justified for Diablo 3. Much of the genre has been formulated around the whole gothic architecture that defined pre-modern churches. Not to mention Diablo 1 was within the catacombs of the church... so there's definitely a viable backstory for such a class.
A healing class in Diablo would be iffy, though. I don't know how they'd be able to balance the classes if there was a class that could heal party members when they already have the health globe mechanics in place. I can see minimal healing spells at best.... but I'm thinking Blizzard will go for damage dealing classes that mesh well with their health globes and potions.
I could be wrong, of course

mounts def shouldnt be in diablo xD
the dragon is just a iddy bitty little pet xD
i mean there were hydras in the other games so dragons arent exactly in the out of there category =3
you can also compare qualities of different genres but what you cannot do is compare which is better lol
Be my Buddy =^.^=
nope just a dragon about the size of a scarab running around shooting fire xD
essentially it can be any color i think black would fit diablo the best =3
the dragon also is like a low lvl skill like a lvl 6 or 12 kinda thing =3
kinda like how druids had a choice between spirit wolves, dire wolves, or bear
the dragoon class would have like pet or transform into a dragon
but it doesnt have to be a flying dragon either
maybe it could get a leap like skill or something lol
the original spear skills could have different animations for dragon form too and maybe have a blade tail or something to be like a spear lol
Be my Buddy =^.^=
You know how they have Elephant graveyards; but few people have seen one.
I'd like to see a Dragon graveyard. I just don't think that fits Diablo.
lol prob not but they could leave a dragon skeleton when it dies and you could make your own xD
unless dragoons are in diablo 3 XD
that wouldnt be a bad class to stick in =3
D2 never did really have a polearm class lol
they were just like a choice for barbs but even they really couldnt do much with it =3
Be my Buddy =^.^=
The Act II mercs utilized polearms..
man jab with a scythe hurts x3
maybe you could hire a necromancer as a merc in diablo 3 o so cool xD
he could have scythe lol
