I'd like the idea of an Exorcist that could cast the evil out of a beast and control it for a specific amount of time... I can see a Monk doing something like that.
As long as you had some type of manipulation spells or whatever there could be a fully defensive character, although it would suck big time.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
C'mon... Since the very first final fantasy the monk class was a mixture of the mighty warrior and the swift thief.
In lineage 2 we play with ORC monks with freaking huge fist weapons. Also the evolution of the Monk class are the Tyrant.
In Ragnarok Online monks were the acolytes thet leave the supportive life style and assume the ultimate burst damage class in the game thorugh azura strike.
In D&D monks are matial artist that gets lots of special skills like poison imunity and super-human leaps. Also he have a one hit kill strike, wich makes then very good assassins (if he is a lawful evil character).
And i don't like the fact that guild wars monk are called monk. Priest would be more suitable imo.
And what all this stuff means? It means that for video games, monks are nor but matial artists with some special divine powers sometimes. The real pacifist monks have absolutly no influence on our concept of ''monkhood''.
But... I would hate to see a matial artist in diablo. Also i can't imagine a monk wearing a gothic plate lol.
Jetrall, I googled these images. Don't kick mah ass!
Ok, MONKS!
Yea, awesome...

assassins actually know fighting martial arts.
Actually, assassins, or ninjas, were known for -not- fighting. They had an arsinal of tools to silently get into a building, eliminate the target, and get out, without detection. Diablo 2's Assassin is far from historically accurate.

Hail Paladin the proper and logical holy warrior.
I certainly hope the Paladin doesn't come back. All of Blizzard's Paladins, from WC2, D2, WC3, and WoW, have all been overpowered...
Bubble anyone?

Priest?
No! No! A thousand times no!
Let's not have a class designed to molest little boys!!
(Sorry, bad joke...)

I think that only 5% of people would actually play as 'monk'.
It's just an unattractive class.
Simple as that, grasshoppa.
Well, I'd be one of that 5%... I think, if they do it right, it will kick major ass....
It all depends on how they portray the class. Monk isn't a very attractive name for most, but then again neither is Wizard. If they do make a monk, and portray it as the western version of it, more of a converter and religious person, I would assume they would not be as popular as a Bruce Lee style, more ninja like monk. Really, in my mind, the only successful way you can portray a holy warrior is through a Paladin, and blizz has been there, done that. Really they just need a class that mixes magic and melee, not necessarily someone holy.
I'm all for the idea, but against the name. Needs something more... badass. Inquisitor perhaps ?
Although, inquisitor sounds like a more ruthless paladin. Could add to the lore though, perhaps the zakarum church had to resort to more brutal methods to eradicate evil, and to spread the faith ?

I think templar should be the next name of the class. A light side tree and a dark side tree debuff that adds to combat skills. Similar play to the paladin, just not aura's, AoE debuffs similar to barb's warcries, but called blessings.

Dark skill tree? Templars were never dark by definition (although motives are different).
This is going too far into reality for me. What next? The Teutonics? No, I think 'Crusader' is a much more appropriate term.
.... I'm still going to push the inquisitor name :D.
I think it would work well, screw crusaders !!!
But overall, I'm completely against naming it either the priest, or paladin again. They need something fresh, not just the ol' Blizzard cookie cutter.

Well as I've pointed out, they could go with inquisitor. Would be something completely new for them.
Could even add to the lore a bit, read my post on the previous page.
As for other names for a monk, I have no idea
I'm taking this to a thesaurus !!!
The monk class prob wont be legal if they did make one since it belongs to whoever owns diablo hellfire now lol.
so essentially even though blizzard never made a monk class, diablo already had one
but i would like to see a easter egg reguarding this in diablo 3 thatd be cool =^.^=
kinda like how they made the cow lvl easter egg from diablo hellfire in 2 lol
how about chaplain lol
prosecuter lol XDXDXDXDXD
Bishop =3
angel lol
Bounty Hunter is one i like
instead of having a religious class you could have a group of ppl using diablo little scheme for their own benefit lol
have a Gun tree (not like a machien gun or rocket launcher but maybe just a pistol with ammo types) also it could have synergies to add to dragoon tree skills. like add fire damage to some spear skills through gunpowder and magic lol
Explosives Tree (if you dont like guns it can use satchels or grenades or moltive cocktail just for a different play style) but it doesnt synergy or strengthen other trees just itself except for maybe 1 skill for gun tree
Dragoon Tree (uses polearms for weapons and can combine with dragon like magic or maybe even shape shift into a dragon lol but thatd be at like lvl 30) and it could also have a dragon pet but does not let you shape shift and keep the pet
the game doesnt have to have a religious class lol

With auras maybe and such?

I'm all for an Exorcist tho.
I don't even know why I put priest..
I think I was just trying to throw things out there.
Although, inquisitor sounds like a more ruthless paladin. Could add to the lore though, perhaps the zakarum church had to resort to more brutal methods to eradicate evil, and to spread the faith ?

Offtopic: I want to see an Executioner outfit for the Barb.

What other names could they give it?
Besides Priest, Paladin, Crusader, Templar, etc...
Could even add to the lore a bit, read my post on the previous page.

Edit: Results !
abbot, anchorite, ascetic, brother, cenobite, eremite, friar, hermit, monastic, priest, recluse, religious, solitary. (Too lazy to un-link them.... will remove links if needed tho)
So there are the synonyms for a monk... which sounds good enough for diablo ?
Of course, with him they should tie the druid in with it. Some sort of relation would rock.

Oh and guns are for WoW.
cuz guns can be fun as long as they arent overused lol
really id be happy if just one class could use a pistol lol
but really if they arent in the game i wouldnt care either way as long as the game is really fun lol
and guns being in wow only increases the odds of using them in diablo 3 lol
Be my Buddy =^.^=
WoW has mounts... doesn't mean Diablo III will have mounts.
You fight Dragons in WoW.. also; doesn't mean we will see that in Diablo III.
Although there is a possibilty; I highly doubt it will happen.
