i didn't mean use it in rapid succession you can only use the speed versions of those two skills on every first chain level also.
however even with the cooldowns and those restrictions, i used seven sided strike a lot to speed ahead playing the demo. (also could be used to get out of rough situations which i will value greatly in hardcore mode)
I was wondering what would happen if you used sss when no enemies were around. How long is the cooldown, if you remember?

i can't remember ><, wouldn't want to say wrong.
another site (here) has it listed as 1.5 seconds?
also if i think if .6 sec goes by the chain level is reset.
when i was trying to use it to speed around i thought it was longer than 1.5 seconds.. but i guess it could seem longer when you're playing and waiting to use it.
edit: oh maybe since it costed 30 mana and monk only has 60 total, maybe i was just out of mana!

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
I really don't get why people keep on saying that the Monk is similar to Paladin when they are nothing alike.
it is a revamped version of the assassin
and where does it say that he uses holy magic?
can't he be using Chi?
even if he does use Holy magic how is that similar to Paladin?
the Paladin uses different weapons, different armor and the skills are totally different.
the Monk has no auras, no buffs only maybe Dash is similar to charge
um, the monk is a holy warrior... a paladin is a holy warrior, people are using that as a comparison but really the monk is, yes, a badass mix of the assassin and a little of the paladin.
Why do they have the monk featured with a staff? I think it would be so much cooler if they had him on blizzards site with giant claws or blades attached to his hands. This is the weapon of choice for him. I watched the gameplay trailer and he doesnt use his staff he is carrying once. There is no need for him to even have it. Plus the wizard already has staffs so its not like they need to add a class that uses them. I just think they should disregard the staff for the monk and focus purely on fist weapons.

i would had prefered a rebel type of background story.. you know.. something badass
Spending your whole life tattooing your self while growing a Rasputin beard, learning martial arts, and learning magic isn't cool enough for you?
Also, could the Monk at Blizzcon use helmets, shields, poll arms, or any other weapon besides his staff? What did his armor look like when you put on a heavier set?

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
The monk might be borrowing some points from some other classes, but the blend is really unique in the diablo universe. Isn't anyone else interested in his combo system? That's a really new and cool feature of the class that is totally unlike any other gameplay system in any diablo game. Sure, it might take some roots from the assassin's martial arts tree, but it's changed so much that it's a totally new beast.
I can't wait for all of the discussion about what the best combos are in various situations. I'm really liking 100 Fists --> 100 Fists --> Crippling wave, and then putting exploding palm 3x on something and blowing everything up. Crippling wave would keep everything slowed and together, and then in range of the corpse explosion from exploding palm.
Think about the depth to the combat and tell me it's not innovative and new.
Bottom line, if you don't like the monk don't play it. There are 4 other classes to choose from, but you'll definitely see me rocking a monk.
Edit: Added another similarity between the Assassin and Monk here.

You wouldn't be doing anything with Crippling wave in that progression because you'd be utilizing stage 3 of Crippling Wave, which refreshes the debuffs applied from stage 1 and 2 of Crippling Wave, which you didn't use.
Personally, I think the best combo thus far is Crippling Wave (1) -> Crippling Wave (2) -> Exploding Palm (3) -> ? (1) -> 100 Fists (2) -> Crippling Wave (3) [if the debuffs last this long and/or if the mob is still up].
This way you add debuffs, and set them to explode when you finish them off, which 100 fists should hopefully do.
I can't decide on the ? because the first iteration of 100 fists has such little damage, there's no need for another iteration of "Crippling Wave level 1," and (if I remember correctly) Exploding Palm level 1 does weak damage as well.
If normal attacks count as a stage, maybe I would just toss one in for 100% damage, but I doubt they do. So if they don't, I'll go with the most powerfull stage 1 attack that does count to get me to the 100 fists stage 2.
Just posting this in response to those who think monks are lame. Even French monks can be pushed to kick barbarian ass and journey to hell to fight Satan.
Oh and if it looks familiar, it inspired Swords and Soldiers.
I've always wanted to play a character with a ninja like style of fighting, but be more of a religous, holy warrior type, instead of just a stealth assassin who lacks any spiritual fortitude. I just didn't really expect it to be in the D series, but I'll get used to it.
I wish they didn't make certain skills look so appealing though....everyone and their grandmothers going to be using exploding palm as a combo finisher. I want to see more variety.
And whoever said the monk has no other similarities to the paladin besides the holy theme, watch the combat video again, the monk also offers support like the Pally. See how one of the spheres around his neck rises in the air and creates that magic barrier protecting the team, that's one of I'm sure many support skills this class will utilize.
You know what, after watching the videos again, it seems that the monk's staff is going to be tied to his defensive skills, while I'm guessing the claws will be tied more to his offensive side.
Note that the female Monk looks like a Taoist, wherein as the male Monk looks like a Shaolin Monk. The look is really where the similarity ends, as Shaolin Monks usually don't fight unless provoked, and the worship and fighting for a higher authority doesn't work the way it works in Western fantasy. However, this is Blizzard's lore, so they can do whatever they want.
And, stop quoting Naruto. That anime made all those Japanophiles think ninjas are all about friendship, love, and beating each other senseless with flashy moves and fair fights in day light.
Notice the difference. The Wizard doesn't have the ornament on the head, which that specific ornament is usually specified to a Taoist. The Wizard doesn't use swords either.
Do you also notice the mark on the forehead? Male Monk has that too.

that item is NOT specific to Taoism, Chinese people use a similar type of crown in various times in history to keep their hair in a specific way.
they keep their hair a "bun" and those of a higher social class use a crown to keep it in place
the mark on a D3 monk is 2 vertical dots, that looks more like a lotus mark which is like yo said more Taoist than Buddhist.

Shaolin monks took part in alot of battles and were drafted into the military in various times in Chinese history.
