It's really late and i'm about to fall asleep, butttt, I thought i'd post this suggestion and see what you guys think about it.
- I don't know how many of you have played Baldur's Gate 2, but the Monk class in that game was actually pretty sweet. He/she didn't wear any armor, and they didn't use any weapons (Well, you could, but they were best without them). Instead, they used their fists and feet, and had a bunch of talents related to Martial combat - Iron fist/skin kind of things. They'd run faster as they leveled, and had a lot of Natural resistances to Magic, Poison, that kind of stuff.
- Or, if you've played Ragnarok by any chance (No flames please. xD), the Monk, or Champion class in that game was probably my favorite class of almost ANY game i've ever played. They used fist/claw type weapons like the Assassin in D2, and used Fist/punch-combos to kill things. They also had a few Holy ability's (they are a MONK, after all), which could sort of combine the Paladin and Assassin together. The Monks in Ragnarok also had these spirit spheres they could summon which they used to power their Fist skills, and most of their Fist skills used up one or more of the 5 spheres you could have at one time - which kind of reminds me of the charge-up ability's that the assassin had(Remember the 3 orbs that charged up when you used certain skills?), and could release to do one HUGE attack.
- I know you're probably thinking "It's too close to the Barbarian, with all the hitting and stuff", but if you add in Auras, An Elemental Tree (He could be a TRUE Elementalist - like Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire), and build upon the Martial Arts tree of the Assassin, I REALLY think this could be a vveerrrryyy badass class.
- Just THINK about that one for a second. Close your eyes and try to imagine it in Diablo 3.
Blindingly fast, bone crunching, skull fracturing Fists. Cracking a fissure open and dropping zombies inside, blowing a huge gust of icy wind from his lungs to knock back and freeze a few Goatmen. Maybe pushing a huge wall of water out from his palms, or summoning a giant Fire Typhoon from the sky.
- Also, he would be a neutral character, just like the rest of the heros of Sanctuary. He doesn't have to be holy, or good-natured like the Paladin, or shady and ill-natured like the Assassin. (Though I do Imagine Monks to be more on the Good-natured side, but it doesn't HAVE to be that way.)
What do you guys think?
Also, sorry for the wall of text.
Edit: Thought i'd try my hand at a Skill tree. Haha. Maybe you guys can think of one as well? Or spells I can add?

Raging Quadruple Blow

Mental Wall
Rank 0/1
Mana Cost: 15
Pushes all targets away from the Monk, knocking them down or stunning them.
Fury
Rank 0/5
Mana Cost: 5 every 2 seconds
The Monk concentrates for a brief period of time, pulling out his inner-strength, increasing his Attack Speed by 10% and increasing his base damage by 15%. All Mana regeneration is halted while the Monk is in his Fury state
Spiritual Cadence

Mana Cost: None
The Monk's base Health and Mana regen are incresed by 25% every level. If sitting or standing still, the Regen increases by an additional 50%. This skill is useable in the Fury state, but is cut by 200%.
He would kick like the Assassin, but also used a staff.
DnD Monks rule. Ever hear the story about the Monk who killed a Dragon solo in BGII.

I remember the Monk in Hellfire. Hahaha.
He wasn't all that great, but neither was the Barb or Bard. Though did they have a few pretty cool ability's.
I'd rather just stick to the Warrior.
But I hadn't heard of the Dragon Soloing Monk. That's pretty tight.
I just wish they hadn't made the Wizard come from Xiansai, because the Monk seems like he would come from there with all the Buddhist kind of asian monk kinda thing, ya know?
But then again, the Wizard DID move to Caldeum, and that doesn't mean the next Shieldy/spear/bow guy can't come from there. Maybe even a Monk could come from there.
Whos the say there can't be a Middle-eastern monk?
It would be cool but I wouldnt want to see the paladin removed... the next class I want to see is a paladin character.... please dont mess this one up blizzard. Its prob the single most popular class in D2.
Only because hammerdins were so easy to make and sooo cheesy it hurts.
The hammers were magical, and since very few monsters are magic immune, you had no problems killing anything, including other people, as there is no Magic Resistance stat, just Fire, Cold, Lightning and Poison.
I not saying there shouldn't be a paladin like character, I just do find you statement the paladin was ht most popular to be 100% accurate, popular yes, but I don't think most popular, I always found the sorc to be in far greater numbers than any other class.

the only thing i have to say about adding the monk class is its a not a class i like very much. i do like slapping zombies like the next guy, but i'll rather do it with a staff or a hammer and listen to the rips crack.
I believe that d3 is lacking some kind of finasse char and yes the monk would fit perfectly.
I'll rather have a zon or rouge/assassin instead. lol yes its fun slaping zombies around with ur hands, its like NEO in the matrix BANGING AGENTS SMITHS all over the place and i play the matrix game so much that it has got me so bored of fist banging shit.
If the monk does become the next class instead of rouge/assassin type just make sure u stay away from me because i will PK ur ass with my barb. i hate wanna be neos

First to Virigo, they already said there isn't a Paladin in the game, but that doesn't mean there wont be a Paladin-TYPE character in the game. I'm hopefully thinking this will be the Monk, or somthing along the lines of a Spear and Shield Spartain type guy. Haha.
Next, Cureingangle, The monk could use Claws, and Fist-WEAPONS like the Assassin, not just his bare fists. I guess they go could either way with this, but I guess like you, i'd want to see some actual tearing apart of the enemy, and having their limbs torn off and such.
What did you guys think of my Sample Talent tree? Hahaha.
Anyone want to make an Elemental Skill tree?
Somehow or other, I imagine a monk, along with being a great hand to hand fighter with staves, daggers, feet, and fists, would actually make a pretty good archer. Am I just weird or something?
- I don't know how many of you have played Baldur's Gate 2, but the Monk class in that game was actually pretty sweet. I'm guessing you haven't played Hellfire (the expansion for Diablo 1), but they had a Monk class and it was about as close as you can get to the BG2 Monk.
Personally, I hated them both...because the majority of the fun of both games are in searching for items to wear, and if you wear less items...that means less items to search for, which means less fun. It also means that your character is necessarily going to be less unique because you can't use items as much to distinguish yourself.

Good point. When the game seems to be about amassing loot, having an ascetic who doesn't wear much or use much is kinda pointless. Therefore, I'd say give them light to medium armor (leather at best), make them proficient with staves, daggers, and bows (makes them the archer class, giving them a good spot in the initial game), and also give them some options for unarmed combat. I'd say give them a nice hand to hand combat skilltree, a nice marsmanship tree, and than a tree of chi-effects, that or psy effects. Something that would up the sfx. Perhaps even healing or regeneration from meditation.
The monk class would be cool, but as mentioned above it's been done already. Your build could work, but it would probably be given a different name and would most likely use some type of class specific weapon.
I would like to see a monk class. Possibly Martial Arts, Staff Fighting, and Holy trees.
Think of a assassin and paladin in one character.
They could possibly come from Xiansai. Or possibly of the Zakarum faith like the paladin.
Maybe have a FEW support things kind of like paladin auras. Some damaging holy spells, and a small non spammable holy AoE healing/dmg spell.
The martial arts tree would be more like dual wield, and the staff tree would be kind of two handed. Like the Barbarians Juggernaut and Berserker trees.
What do you guys think?
EDIT:
Just to clarify I'm not talking about a peaceful protest daisy picking monk.
I'm talking about something similar to DnD monks who had the quivering palm ability and could stop someones heart.
Or a Everquest monk that was adept in using fist or staff weapons.
It's a great idea that I think would compliment to the games strategy and faced paced tone and also lore. Give it to us blizz!

Well, I'd probably never play it. I just don't like that name. The idea is good, though- I want to say this was brought up in some form other places, but so many character suggestions are made everyday on these forums I could be mistaken
Whats the point of a monk when you a have a paladin or a crusader ( a highly god fearing class MADE for fighting).
Sorry guys but lets think here. Monks (nor Buddha) fight.ever. now stop trying to contradict their relgions
