Not necessarily, we can't know already because we only know few skills...
WD fear I think it's not a supportive spell, it's annoying for a barb when he try to kill monster who run away...
well the 15+ minutes of monk gameplay say otherwise... doubt blizzard would release gameplay to show what the class is not going to be?
also your argument for WD fear not being a supportive spell is not very... detailed... and its anoying for the barbarian when a monster runs away? bad argument as well just in general plus have you seen monsters running away in diablo 3 much?
he might have a more supportive build in one tree but wasn't it already stated that there is not going to be any full on support classes..
Right, what I would say it's fear (spell of d2) is more useful in single player and annoying in multi. I seen in a recent video fear not make flee but hold them.. much better !! it's prevent to approaching during others bash them.
edit: I just rewatch, it's not a status of fear (where monsters only run away) now it's a range from the WD.
really confused on why the monk is seen to anyone as a supportive class? from what i have seen he seems like a pure offensive class. He rushes large groups of mobs in less than 3 seconds 50% of everything seems to be dead. I'm not sure what all the abilities are that the monk has or will have upon release but he seems to me as the 'rogue' of the classes. No daggers or swords but very fast and agile i highly doubt this will be a purely supportive class
I don't think anyone said he was going to be purely supportive. No one will doubt he can hold his own in single play, as ALL Diablo characters should. However, he just has more supportive skills than everyone else(everyone else having like.. None? Lol). Making him the MOST supportive character of all the classes.

which abilities seem supportive? i have seen one or so... the rest seem completely offensive.
and the WD zombie wall and the WD fear are both great ways to crowd control mobs. Seems like great supportive abilities to me... not to mention his minions can take focus off of the party as well.
The wizards slow time ability seems extremely overpowrered in party play as well. the range on it is huge
Ofc this is not necesserely true, it's that for some reason melee character are harder to balance then ranged ones. Imo it's unbearable the fact that a ranged character will unleash more DPs then a melee one.
Why unbearable, it's a middle ground I would say. I've you're a ranged character you can't get melee, therefore you have to really on the power of your attacks to defend yourself. A melee character has an incredible durability and can take a reasonable amount of damage before dying.
Ranged characters USUALLY do more damage than melee characters. It is a trade off for not being able to take many hits. There are exceptions to this like rogue characters who also cant take much damage. Their trade off is even more damage to compensate for it.

When you're a sorceress and can hit everything in the screen (and a little beyond that) 3 times in 2 seconds i believe your damage should be alot lower then that poor avenger pally that must kill eveything hit by hit. Even if the pally it's alot more durable - he must face the hordes of enemey everytime he wants to make attack, meaning he will ALLWAYS recieve damage, unlike ranged who can kite everything forever and ever.
In diablo ranged character are much much more durable then any melee out there. Who survives better in D1, a meleee warrior or a bow rogue ?
Who survives better in D2, a sorc with teleport, glacial spike and frozen orb or any barbarian variation ? A paladin with 15k def or a necromancer with 1 point in BP and 90+FCR ? In TQ who survives better, the stupid defender variants or anything with storm nukes and summons ? In torchlight what can possible survives better then a beam alch wiping the whole scream with one click ?
Melee character runs alot more risks then rangeds and thats the reason they are more resilient. If you give then just avarage or above avarage DPS he will just take longer to kill monsters, but when melee takes more time to kill, he automatically takes more damage. So he end up taking more damage then ranged, playing more risky and killing slower.
you do make a valid point, however the key concept there is 'teleport'. we all know that teleport in D2 was way too overpowered, which led to the Enigma debacle. so if you remove teleport from the equation, suddenly the ranged character (the sorceress in particular) are much more at risk, because they have to keep moving and could easily be one-shot-killed.
EDIT: who the hell put the word "equation" in red??
to this day I do not think the characters in diablo2 are balanced
Paladin, Assassin, Druid, Necromancer will never be as good as Amazon, Sorceress, and Barbarian,
dont believe me? look at the ladder, tell me what you see, Amazons, Sorcs, and Barbarians are the top 50 on the ladder right?
all we can do is pray all of the characters, including the Monk are well balanced.
i don't think balance is going to be a huge issue.
diablo isnt ur everyday MMO, where they have archers, knights, assassins, and healers
this is not a healer class.
you don't only have buffs, but u also have alot of attack moves. besides, in arena, you have a team right?
buffs can help both of you to do even better.
so i wouldnt be too worried about the monk being gimped for PvP.
I don't think it'd be so bad if the Monk was a supportive class. That's how I regarded the Assassin anyway. Well, my build anyway. I know other Sins were way more powerful than I ever was, but I liked the idea of offering combat support in multiplayer games. Unfortunately the role of being supportive in a party isn't considered that important when people are just online for Baal runs and MFing. But when D3 comes out and people are playing the game for the fun of questing and plot related stuff, then yeah I would want a frontline smasher up guy like the Barbarian next to say, a Wizard. With the Monk softening things up on the sides. Something like that.

throw in an amazon, and your going to pretty much land the first blow every time
Monk is going to be my first class.
