Hey Guys, I've seen allot of different monks using lots of different runes for exploding palm. I wanted to explain why we see so many different runes being used. Its one of the very few skills in this game that almost all runes can be valuable in the right situation.
Strong Spirit: Use as a utility skill to maintain spirit if you don't have the crudest boots or value alternative passives more than spirit regeneration.
Essence Burn: Over all a poor performing rune now that Gundo is available. A very cool skill but even with Fire % its still way to low dps.
Shocking Grasp: Scales with lightning % which you are most likely using. Its great when you are speed farming... dropping EP once instead of 2-3 times.
Impending Doom: Very high damage output even without cold %, definitely an ideal choice for maximising your damage in higher greater rifts.
The Flesh Is Weak: Not great solo but v good for group fights agains Rift Guardians and large health pool elites. At the least you will kill the RG 20% faster its worth noting this skill is a separate multiplier so its more than this.
Is it just me, or does EP just feel very weak in high GR? It only explodes when you kill a monster. I can crit for about 1.7bil so far but in higher GR sometimes mobs have like 15bil hp. if it takes 20+sec to kill the monster and the explosion only takes like 10% hp of surrounding mobs it feels inadequate when you are used to mobs just exploding. It's great for lower and medium difficulty content but as i do higher and higher GR with friends its like my palms seem more and more insignificant.
You think there is some kind of breaking point where monks should start focusing on more consistent DPS output like demon hunters? WoL is still strong. Are there any skills we can substitute EP with that could boost WoL enough that it surpases EP?
Also keep in mind it opens bracers to do what you want with, if that makes a difference. reapers wraps for more spirit perhaps? (on that not how annoying is it that the rift guardian doesnt drop any globes? in high gr sometimes it takes half the time of the completion just on the boss).
I reckon the flesh is weak might be strong enough as it provides 20% dmg bonus to you AND the party. This way at least the palms "give" a lot of DMG while they are applied. But then it would only be strong in power of it's buff bonus, and not so much because of the explosions. Any alternatives?
Also gungdo gear feels less powerful in higher GR. I am constantly forced to apply AND re-apply palms manually on a lot of mobs, because they take so long to kill that the affix in reality has little to no effect. Maybe I'm using it wrong or it's just like kripp explained recently. It's a matter of playing a difficulty level where your palms cascade. So if the content is to easy, they just explode and won't spread because the first palm just killed everything it touches. Or it's too hard, and mobs have so much HP you have to apply palms yourself on all mobs.
