Today I want to show you guys the PTR 2.1.2 changes to the Marauder 'M6' set. I go over the 2 and 6 piece set bonus mechanics (4 piece is the same), explain changes to sentries, talk about a couple build possibilities, and show off some ridiculous Cluster Arrow damage - 3 shot Ghom, 2 shot Skeleton King, and 1 shot T6 elites. Enjoy and be on the lookout for build videos based on these changes!
Note: everything on PTR is subject to change, and particularly in this case I think the values will get toned down.
yep, numbers do look insane but in grifts you have very limited resources and you can not one shot anything but anything will one shot you so again much running and less casting so I think it is ok

but, pair this with tiki wd... hmmm
I'll be playing around with it in grifts soon, I don't think it's going to be a problem. Either Krider + Ball Lightning or CA-Bear + Cindercoat, then line of sight and just fire at a wall.

I have to agree we will be limited with resources, it is nice you can do a quick burst of high dps, but now you have to wait for either health globes to be dropped so you can pick them up or wait for your resources to regenerate, so sustaining dps is going to be a lot different. Also avoid stuff is going to be a lot hard as if you want to dps you sentries wont do all the work for your now, you have to actually turn that corner and let off a few shots and run back around the corner hoping you are not one shot in grifts. I liked the playstyle we have, they are always messing with things that worked well. i enjoyed M6 the way it was. they do this all the time to other classes as well, just mess with stuff to make you change or play something different, really irritating to me.

The problem is that most people (at least the most vocal of people) didn't really like that playstyle, myself included. I mained a DH for season 1, and actually made a monk and a crusader to try and find more involved playstyles. It was really fun when I first got M6 and got the massive power spike and the ability to deal a ton of damage from miles away, but eventually that wears off. I think a lot of people had similar experiences. This really left Blizzard with 2 options,
1) Give every class a set/build that allowed them to do a ton of damage from around a corner (for some attempt at balance)
2) Change M6 so that it requires more player interaction.
They chose option 2, and at least look to have made the set still high level viable. .
The one-shot issue is partially solved (at least in theory) by the reduction in damage in higher GRs. At some point, every build is going to start getting one-shot because GRs scale to infinity, and part of the increasing difficulty is more monster damage/life.
On a related note, I'm really glad that they have gone away from 2-piece bonuses being +mainstat, and have started giving a bonus that increases your power with a least a gimmick, if even if it's not completely build changing. Hopefully they will keep with that sentiment for future sets/changes.
span>I also think they did it because in its former form there was no downside to it, put sentrys down and then just run out of range for mechanics afking. Was too big of an advantage compared to other classes that has to be somewhat close in order to work. I really think this change is awesome and not just talking about the insane numbers that's been showcased. Now DH will have a more active gameplay while still maintaining a bit of the former, stay in the back and hide concept.
This is pretty much spot on. If they were to implement a completely new set and make it's damage similar to the live version of M6, M6 would still win out because their is inherent survivability in being able to do sustained damage while focusing entirely on not dying.
The other option (where M6 is left unchanged) is to make a new set that outdamages M6 enough to offset the survivability you get from focusing solely on not dying. In that case, I'm guessing they have lots of data that show that M6 would have very little use overall, and thus it would end up watering down the item pool for demon hunters. Some people who really like the drop and run style would still use it, but most people would opt for the more efficient set.
I have been playing Non-Seasonal DH almost exclusively (95% of playtime) and I don't see why people are complaining so much. Why don't you all just drop some flippin' DPS and build up some toughness and get some defensive passives and then you don't have to sit around a corner to play your class. Be a more proactive player, learn how to avoid the easily avoidable damage (Jailer and Thunderstorm are still not avoidable). Be a little more tanky, worry less about your sheet DPS and then when you can take some damage and you have 3-5 sentries up and you just blast stuff away. You can't kill anything if you are dead and running back from the last checkpoint.
So after a long wait in the queue today on the PTR I got in and played around with my Demon hunter.
Initial thoughts: I really like the changes. I swapped up some gear, got a hatred Generator instead of rocking 3 spenders like I do on live.
Pop down first 3 turrets really fast thanks to Custom Engineering and then start spamming Elemental Arrow - Frost Arrow (10 hatred cost with 0% RCR) and you can spam them a ton.
Your turrets auto aim at nearest target when you fire your hatred spender. They have a pretty far range, but kind of stink when you are in windy rifts/grifts. But you can get your turrets down relatively quickly and start spamming your hatred spenders and just MOW everything down.
I was getting 40 million crits with Elemental Arrow - Frost Arrow with just 3/5 of my turrets up. On the rift guardian, I had all 5 turrets up and he was dead in about 5 seconds.
I'm going to play some more tonight after work, try some different builds (Etrayu frost build, Balefire CAster + Cindercoat Loaded for bear, Meticulous Bolts + Krider and lighting) and post some more info later.
But bottom line, I rocked T6 rifts faster then I've ever done before.
I agree with most of the comments. Even with the change in the next PTR patch - which is really just more balance tuning to force players to directly engage enemies - M6 is buffed overall. What people don't take into account (currently) are the new defensive legendary gems. The Wildebeest's Gizzard for instance is PERFECT for the new M6 set:
You should make a video on how all 3 gems work together. Moratorium, Molten Wildebeest's Gizzard and Esoteric Alteration.
If the queue times on PTR ever get better and I can actually get in, I do plan on testing gizzard + alteration together for sure, though I probably won't be using moratorium. It's a pretty bad gem. It's only 25% and it only has a chance to wipe the damage and it's useless against elites/rift guardians at higher grifts due to how long it takes to kill them.
Night stalker for mroe hatred regen due to CA costing a lot, single spender build, Vengeance + Wolf, etc etc pretty much a standard fire build apart from the grenades.
EDIT: polar station to trigger cull the weak and bane of the trapped.

I've tried something like that with the current set on PTR. I was able to do 43-44 w/o any problem but with Kridershot cold build(FA, Maelstrom) I did 50 easily, so it's superior to bombs due to rocket damage.
Cluster Bombs is my favourite DH ability and I'd really like to see it work. I haven't tried Vengeance, but if I did I'd use Seethe run for extra CA casts. Back in the begining of RoS I was playing a Cluster Bombs build with Seethe and it was much better than Personal Mortar.
In my opinion the beginner build will use CA: Maelstrom or Shooting Stars or maybe MS: Arsenal, because of the huge rocket damage. In later patch somebody might come up with a better build like EA spam with a 2h xbow with some RCR(cindercoat) and hatred regen, or any other spender.
I want to try a lot of things but I don't have the time. If you guys have time could you please try Wildebeest's Gizzard with the Brooding passive and Pride's Fall and see if shield's absorb maintains the helm's bonus and how good is the absorb in higher levels(50+). Thanks in advance!
I have tested the gizzard, but not with the helm (can't get into ptr, queue times and all). My assumption is that it would work just fine, since you absorb all damage as long as the shield is up. However, a single hit will most likely burn through the shield at 50+ unless you somehow have ridiculous HP regen. At rank 50 the gem grants you 60k lps. Assume you get another 10k from paragon and another 10k elsewhere (Templar if solo, maybe a roll or 2 on gear). So that's 80k, giving you a 160k shield. A single hit on 50+ will eat through that right away, but that doesn't mean it's bad, since it'll give you a TON of toughness and allow you to regen very quickly once you get out of the line of fire. It'll be great, I just don't see it lasting for an entire hit unless it's a fast tic/low damage dot.

Ballistic is a very strong option indeed, adding kridershot to the formula for additional damage. Maybe Grenadier needs a buff - imho a 100% increased damage to bring it on par with Ballistic isn't a bad idea, "unlocking" more options for builds.
And everyone knows that explosions make everything 73.2% better.

This. god damn blizz looks at grenadier like it's balanced lol

As I said before add the Broodingpassive. It gives 9% Life per seconds at 3 stacks. If you have 500k hp, that's 45k lps. With your calculations that makes 125k, a.k.a 250k shield. I'm not sure if it's 60k from gem. I think it's 50k as origianally announced. Even it's 50k we'd have a 105k absorb. The damage is reduced a lot in grifts, so the shield might not go down by lesser hits. I was able to stay alive on higher levels after taking 1 hit(low dmg). The damage absorbed by the shield might not scale with toughness. If it scales that means having some extra all ress/armor will make it stronger. Anyway, I started thinking that toughness will be more valuable than before.
My idea with the Brooding is to stay stationary while doing damage to increase efficiency. Stutter stepping is good for avoiding damage but it results in lowering the dps.
I get the concept, but don't think it'll be very practical - especially with the new changes to M6, you'll be moving around just as much (if not more) than before. In group you may be standing still a bunch (if you have a lock doc, zdps sader, etc), but in that setup you will be avoiding all damage anyway, and since you'll be doing much higher grifts any damage will 1 shot anyway (just like it does now).
Note: everything on PTR is subject to change, and particularly in this case I think the values will get toned down.

ofc, a pet wd is similar, but these pets actually can die, which would turn the focus from mobs on you
