Apparently lightning is on top dps wise with fire a bit ahead of cold. What i wanted to know is how much is the gap we talking about?
I see more and more dh's as lightning in groups and i cant really understand why. Sure top players use the spec but its like 10 X harder compared to what we used so far. and it feels way more like a glass cannon compared to the rest (considering you have to shoot also to trigger helltrapers proc) So is it worth the hassle?
I really hope they add some damage meters and a combat log one day so we can judge our gear and specs better and easier.
Infinite smoke screen = go with 2M toughness and don't give a shit, meaning every single stat on every single piece of gear can be dedicated to damage, rather than trying to survive a tick of thunderstorm/frozen/jailer etc, giving lightning an advantage. It's that simple.
Lit. has better group damage, fire has better single target dmg in groups if someone is proccing trapped. Lit. is pretty much the best with optimal gear due to being invincible. If you plan on pushing the GR limits you need to go Lit. Ball/MBolts spec.
Not talking about the smoke screen you barely even need it in groups with a good wd and a monk its mostly for solo. I am talking purely dps wise if someone has done the math taking in account perfect gear set ups how much approximately would the performance gap be between the specs?
There's no discussion to be had, for a group setting its a lighitning build, easily. You dont run smoke screen/nightstalker like you do solo, you go pure dps. Add in mark for death and bait the trap, 4.15 bp with voodoo.
Problem is you cant really run 2 DHs with the lightning build or else the game will lag badly in big packs.
Lightning come ahead 2 others spec because lightning provide the highest dps wise when it come to group play with helping form monk and wd ( for group monster purpose). Lightning build also build that allow you to put EVEYTHING into dps due to smoke screen. It's popular because it's the only way you can do high gr ( 45,46+) . You can't just say I will play group forever so I never need smoke screen .
In diablo 3, there always have atleast 1 spec/skill/build style in a class that will be the best . For example, I play cold DH I can beat greater rifts 40; I switch to lightning DH, I can beat greater rifts 41. Why would I want to play cold DH ? I mean no matter how small the different between those spec, there is always a spec that better than the others so why don't I play the best spec?
To answer OP question, yes, it's worth the hassle. People in general always want to achieve the highest possible thing they can. I want to see on my profile that I can beat greater rifts 45 but not 40 ( just an example) . Why not?
