With 2.0.5, Awareness is being buffed to make Dex give 30% of its stat to Armor. Thus, with 9k Dex (easily obtainable atm), you would get a whopping 3k armor! It looks like Demon Hunters will no longer be the squishiest class, but Awareness will most likely be mandatory.
I won't say mandatory, but it competes with Perfectionist.
Anyway, i'd still keep perfectionist. Yes, we have trouble in getting our armor rating high, but the reduced Disciplin costs is way too good to pass over; especially for builds that use a lot Cloak, or even the mroe diffuse Preaparation/Punishment combo.
DEX on armor is really good, but the added advantages of perfectionist are still better imho.
Probably, when you have the 4Mara active, you can get Nightstalker and make use of Awareness because of the Boar that already boosts resistances; but this is all about a defensive setup, many DH just ingore these abilities and just go for a full offensive setup. Probably also a 3Natalya would be of help, but we're talking about pretty decked characters.
Well, if i manage to get everything i need i will surely try it - the DEX to armor thing covers a hole in our class.
EDIT: i'm more concerned by the fact that the only element change we get is Devouring Arrow rune changed to cold damage. More support for cold builds is nice, but their effectiveness/efficiecy is still way under the standard CA builds.
We need more elemntal variety on generators, but we also need streamlined hatred generation (no one will ever use anything that doesn't give 6 hatred) and better/buffed spenders because atm the efficency of CA has no competitor.
There are other builds around, but still their efficiency is way too low.
I am actually a bit sad about this, since I think that old Awareness synergized very well with Pride's Fall helm. I don't have one yet (farming for it, but unlucky so far...), so now I am not sure if it is still worth farming for one. What do you think?
Pride's Fall bonus is imho too much RNG for my taste. there are a lot of unavoidable AoEs which can screw that; 5 seconds may look a short time but in fact they are not that short. Also many times is worth to take that additional hit to avoid worse things or kill that nasty elite.
You can make use of the helm for sure; anyway in a scenario of BiS items, you don't get the slot free for the helm (you go either Aughild/Marauder/Natalya/Andariel depending on your drops and needs).
I really like the change. I have 11k armor now and reflect was my only issue, i havent ran across a pack yet but it should help a ton.
Im a ballista user and really like the dev arrow change as well. Before it was phy damage so high armor'd monsters took forever, im mowing them down now.
These changes seem like buffs if your running t5-6 and a nerf to those running + and under. But honestly, just stick with the lfb spam and it wont make a difference since everything dies in one shot in lower lvls.
Other than it completely ruined my Devouring Arrow Physical build (Buriza + Ninth Cirri + Pet) and the hundreds of hours I put in it not much...
Spray of teeth isnt bad, still phy and can proc a certain spell (phy) that makes t6 feel like t1. I didnt like not seeing 22mil crits off dev but with spray things have actually gotten better.
Awareness isnt helpful vs reflect, still die in 2secs if i attack with hungering, makes no sense that my spender reflects 10x less than my generator.
Steady aim is a crap of a passive - all it takes is a single mob that jumps at you and its bonus is gone. It need to be simply "you do X more damage to enemies over Y yards" like any other passive that works the same (wizards). Cull the weak is better if you use Entangling Arrow.
Awareness change is good, but still we're forced to take other better passives before (be then whatever one decides to get).
Reaper's wraps are good, but if you tackle higher difficulties Aughild is nearly mandatory - goodbye bracers slot (apart the toughness boost, 15% damage to elite is awesome).
For the rest, we have quite some option on the gear/builds, but i find a more streamlined resourece generation and never dying is FOR ME the best way to farm. Numbers-wise, DH have the CA builds, end of story - they're good and even if they are nearly the only option, we can get the job done.
Builds/passives revolve a lot on what a player finds better for his playstyle.

Why not Aughild Helm and Shoulders (+Cindercoat and Reaper's Wraps)?
Tried the new Awereness yesterday and I dont think I will ever remove it again in higher Torments.
And the Marauder's buff finally made me get away from cindercoat CA combo. And, as soon as I started playing a lightning build with relative success, the damn perfect fire SoJ drops....Oh well....

Because you need to take in consideration that you are going to get at least 3 pieces of marauder - legs/boots are untouched, but you must get helm of shoulders additionally.
Anyway my idea is to get also natalya, other gear setups can be on the same òlevel or even better - i cannot try everything still
