I have a few questions I'm not sure about with regards to my DH.
1. The Unbound Bolt I am using has 'Cold Damage' on it, is this damage not counting in my fire build, and %fire damage equipment stats?
2. I have a Demon's Machine in my stash ( without a socket ), in your opinion would it be worth trying to socket it and using it instead of the Unbound Bolt? Would the fireball proc gain more dps than the crit damage on the bolt? With/without archery passive? I can post the stats to the Demon Machine if that makes things easier.
Thank you
ps I'd also accept any other advice experienced DH players might have on how to improve my build/equipment
Well, a link to armory would be cool to have to check the stats on your items.
Anyway:
1. the cold damage on your weapon is added to the base damage before counting the skill and stats multipliers. Think about it as "+min/max dmg". The point is that skills have a damage type that will override that type of damage, so your CA for example will still count tyhat bonus damage and will still do fire damage. The "+% elemental damage" is actually "+% elemental SKILLS damage" - this means that the only element that counts is the one written on your skill tooltip.
2. it depends entirely on items' stats and your build/passives. Also depends on your playstyle - a 2h xbow is slower but has biggers hits, a bow has smaller, faster hits and gives you slightly more mobility.
About the Unbound VS Demon Machine - i'd keep the bow. I don't have tried the xbow proc, but i don't think it can offset the crit dmg on bow plus the 8% passive damage from archery. I don't count the socket because you'll end to have it on both weapons, so they are on par with that.
You can try it anyway; you can find despite all numbers and math that the xbow suits your playstyle better, thus you'll be more effective in the end.
If you're looking to eke out more damage from your gear (I think that should be your priority, as a softcore demon hunter)...
-Re-roll Vit on your necklace to Crit Damage %. You could gain up to 100% more critical hit damage- this would be huge, given your Crit % chance is quite good.
-Can re-roll Vit and Life On Hit on your Belt, Legs, Quiver and Boots to +% [Relevant Skills];
+% Cluster Arrow is a possibility for boots and quiver (you want this), +% to Entangling Shot can roll on belt and leggings
I have to do a lot of this same stuff with my own gear, but that's kind of the floating goal at the moment. As demon hunters, I think we get a lot more out of Resist All than Vitality, when it comes to Tougness point-for-point, so that is one thing to consider. As soft core, our defense ought to be a formidable offense; we really don't have the tools to tank, and though I would by no means begrudge anyone who rolls with defensive stats for their own comfort or whatever, the truth is that we're designed for damage output, and you'll just have an easier, more efficient time riding that wave.

I just spent 15 souls trying to roll a socket on the Xbow to try it out and still no luck
Really hate the RNG whenever I need to roll a socket on a weapon , oh well. Back to the grind.
