    6. Summary

[Off-topic] So, to start this off I just want to say that I've spent 350ish hours on my demon hunter worth of ingame time, working my way through many experimental builds which has resulted in what I'm about to share with everyone! Also I know this is my first post on this forum, I felt I just had to share this after leeching for such a long time!
Cant get tables to work on this forum for some reason so I highly suggest you download the word document as attached at the bottom!
You can also use the googledocs I'll link here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4uj4Gv6uJLXOUV2YmJWZDVUTHc

    Terminology (Legend for the guide)

    CC – Critical hit chance
    CD – Critical hit damage
    IAS – Increased attack speed
AR/Allres – “All resistance” (resistance to all elements)
    MS – Movement speed
    MF – Magic find
    GF – Gold find
    LS – Life steal
    LoH – Life on hit
LaeK – Life after each kill
    MP –Monster Power
BiS – Best in slot item
    XP – Experience points
    HP – Health points
    1. 1. Gearing up and Stat priorities

I'll start up with listing the slots piece by piece and recommending what you should focus on in terms of stats. I will list legendary items along with rare items and the lists will be in no order of certain “must-have”-status. Will only list the items I find as viable choices. These stat priorities obviously change between HC and SC.

Basic stat priority for defensive stats: AR/Vita>Phys res>Armor>Life regen
Basic stat priority for offensive stats: Dex>CC>IAS>CD

    Helm:
What you look for in a helm is based on what your going to do with your demon hunter. If going for paragon levels you'll need a socket most likely and will mean your choices might be limited.

    Item
Why I recommend it and for which build
    Negatives
    Mempo of Twilight
Basically everything you would want in a helm. Get CC as random roll if possible. BiS according to many if not going for set bonuses
Mempo can be Extremely expensive especially with CC as random roll so will most likely not be the first choice for many.
    Natalya's Sight [1.0.5 set version]
Has a socket and If your going for this set for bonuses (which I will explain later)
Quiet low actual dps stats as base rolls and would have to rely on random rolls to get crit
    Natalya's Gaze [Legacy]
You will have to use this to get the 4set legacy set bonus, Look for socket and crit
ONLY use this if going for 4-set legacy set bonus since the base rolls are a lot worse then the new one.
    Andariels Visage
Good to start off with, has IAS/CC/Dex as base rolls, the “poor” mans Mempo to many. Look for socket or high dex/vita depending on preference
Important is the +fire dmg taken stat, get as low as you can if going for this.
    Rare helm
For a really low budget start helm get one with Dex>Vita>AR>CC>Socket
Can be really hard to find anything that beats Andy head even on a really low budget.

    Shoulder:
    Vile Ward
Can roll the highest dex (300) possible and has everything you will want on shoulders as a base almost.
Can be very expensive with high stats.
    Rare shoulder
When searching prio in this order: Dex>AR>Vita>Phys resist>Armor>%Life>Life regen

Chest: Most variable slot in the gear if Not going for set bonuses in my opinion
    Natalya's Embrace [1.0.5 set version]
Has 3 sockets, decent Dex and %Life along with skill bonuses as a base roll which makes this the choice for many. Look for random stats such as +Max discipline, AR or Vita
Can be very expensive with the “right” random rolls.
    Natalya's Shadow [Legacy]
Has almost the same stats as the new one but a bit worse. Look for the same random rolls.
ONLY use this if going for 4-set legacy set bonus since the base rolls are a lot worse then the new one.
    The Inquisitor
Has 12%MS as base roll which makes this a very good starter chest if your on a budget. High prio on sockets as random roll or get Vita.
Doesn't have sockets as a base roll.
    Blackthorne's Surcoat
Very tanky option if you can land one with Dex as a random roll.
No main stat as base roll which makes it expensive most likely.
    Inna's Vast Expanse
Has a lot of the desired stats (Dex/Vita/%life) along with 3 sockets as a base roll, use if going for 2 set bonus of Inna's.
Can be very expensive in comparison but worth it if your going for 2-set Inna's
    Tyrael's Might
Has MS as base roll along with %dmg to demons, High Dex/AR.
Missing sockets/vita as base rolls which makes the ones that have those very expensive.
    Cindercoat
Starter chest if you can't find any decent others, look for sockets>Vita in terms of random rolls.
Low base rolls and no sockets as base makes this quiet bad for DH's but I thought I'd include it as it's still viable.
    Rare chest
    Stat prio: Dex>AR>Vita>Phys resist>Sockets

    Gloves:
    Tasker and Theo
Only gloves with a socket, Look for CC/High dex as random rolls
Extremely rare to find a pair with stats the can compete in comparison to rares.
    Sage's Gesture
Base rolls are interesting with crit, armor and vita, Look for Dex/IAS/CD as random rolls
Extremely rare to find a pair with stats the can compete in comparison to rares.
    Rare gloves:
The only way to go if u ask me. Stat prio is: Dex>CC>IAS>CD>AR/Vita, Aim for at least a pair with Dex/CC/IAS and add rolls accordingly to your budget

    Bracers:
    Lacuni Prowlers
Only bracers with MS and IAS as base rolls, Look for Dex, CC and AR/Vita as random rolls
Extremely expensive with good random rolls
    Strongarm Bracers
If your not looking for MS from Lacuni then these will be the most logical starter choice even on a budget. Has CC, High dex and %life along with armor as base stats and the knockback is very nice if you don't mind it too much.
In comparison to Lacunis they miss IAS obviously.
    Rare bracers
    Stat prio: Dex>Crit>AR>Vita

    Belts:
    The Whiching Hour
Only high level belt with IAS and CD as base rolls, Look for Dex>Vita/AR as random roll
Extremely expensive with good random rolls
    Inna's Favor
Very good base rolls with crit being one of them. Use if going for 2-set bonus from Inna's. Has x% Holy damage aswell but wont affect dps too much, which I'll explain later!
Expensive when you compare it vs rares that could be a lot better.
    Rare belt
    Stat prio: Dex>AR/Vita

    Pants:
    Inna's Temperance
Only legs with IAS/CC/MS and comes with Dex+2 sockets as base rolls, any pair will most likely beat any alternative. Look for AR/Vita as random rolls
Can be expensive with good random rolls.
    Blackthorne's Jousting Mail
Tanky alternative, Look for sockets or AR as random rolls.
Not too high dps stats makes them less interesting.
    Depth Diggers
High dex and high AR along with mf/gf makes these interesting, Look for sockets or Vita as random rolls
Expensive with the right random rolls.
    Rare pants
    Stat prio: Dex>AR>Vita>sockets>Armor

Boots: By far the easiest way to get MS
Natalya's Bloody Footprints [1.0.5 set version]
Has all you want from boots as base rolls, Decent/High Dex, High AR, armor and MS, Look for Vita/Phys res as random rolls
Can be expensive with good random rolls.
    Natalya's Soul [Legacy]
Required to reach legacy 4-set bonus
No main stat (Dex) as base rolls so can become very expensive with Dex as random roll, ONLY use if going for legacy 4-set bonus
    Fire Walkers
Decent Dex and MS as base rolls and adds the burning ground effect.
Hard to find a comparable pair with rares in the same pricerange.
    Ice Climbers
Highest possible Dex for boots, %Life and High AR along with being the only boots with a socket makes these very interesting.
No MS as base makes the ones with MS random roll very expensive.
    Rare boots
    Stat prio: Dex>MS>AR/Vita

    Amulet:
    Ouroboros
To list at least one set/legendary I had to include this. Look for AS, Dex and CD as random rolls

    Rare Amulet
The only choice for demon hunters if you ask me. Stat prio: Dex>CC>IAS>CD>Avg dmg>Vita/AR/LoH/LaeK. Look for at least high Dex and CC here, add more stats according to you budget.

    Rings:
    Natalya's Reflection [1.0.5 set version]
IAS+Dex as base roll makes this the choice for those going for set bonuses, Look for CC>CD>Vita/AR as random rolls.
Can be expensive with the “right” random rolls.
    Natalya's Mark [Legacy]
IAS+Dex as base rolls but lower then the new version.
ONLY use if going for 4-set legacy.
    Litany of the Undaunted
High Dex, High AR and CC is very nice as base rolls, Look for IAS or Vita as random roll
Can be expensive with the “right” random roll.
    The Wailing Host
High Dex, Dmg vs Elites and CC is very nice as base rolls, Look for IAS or AR/Vita as random roll
Can be expensive with the “right” random roll.
    Hellfire Ring
The obvious choice if paragon grinding. Can roll very good random stats.
Can be hard to roll a good one
    Stone of Jordan
Just had to include this as it's the good old SoJ(!). Look for one that fits your needs when looking at skillbonuses.
    No crit or IAS possible.
    Unity
Avg dmg, Dex, Crit and Dmg vs Elites along with LOH makes this an interesting ring. Look for IAS>CD>Vita/AR as random roll
Can be expensive with the “right” random roll.
    Rare rings
Very variable choice. Stat prio: Dex>CC>IAS>CD>Avg Dmg>AR/Vita/armor

    Weapon:
    Manticore
Only weapon in the game with 2 sockets possible makes this very hard to beat. Look for High Dps>2 sockets>Dex>Vita/LoH/Laek for random roll.
Very expensive with the “right” random rolls.
    Windforce
The knockback on this makes it interesting and it's a bow type obviously if you prefer that. Look for Socket>CD>High dex as random roll.
    Hard to compare vs Manticore
    Calamity
Adds Mark for Death to target so you don't have to use the skill and is Extremely fast. Look for Socket as a random roll.
Can be expensive with a socket and high dps.
    Rare Weapons
    Stat prio: DPS>Dex/CD>Socket
With the legendary weapons of 1.0.5 coming in to the mix and being very affordable even on a tight budget I'd go for one of them.

Quivers: Not going to list shields since I don't find it viable
    Dead Mans Legacy
Everything you could ask for, High Dex, High CC, Skill bonuses, High Vita and Hatred Regen as base makes this very hard to beat, Look for higher stats or Max discipline as a random roll.

    Rare Quiver
    Stat prio: Dex>CC>IAS>Vita>Max discipline>Skill bonuses
You'd need a sick rare even to compare to a bad Dead Mans Legacy

    2. Builds
In this section I will link the builds I've tested that I find working decently and explain how effective I got them to work, there will of course be interchangeable skills in them as well since most builds comes down to personal preference. Place on skillbar is also very much up to your own preference.

    Solo/Group farming build #1: http://eu.battle.net...gVhd!XeY!caYcZb
Explanation: My variation of the “cookie cutter”-build using the Hungering Arrow/Elemental arrow combo. My preference when it comes to paragon grinding and higher Mps

    Solo/Group farming build #2: http://eu.battle.net...gVld!XeY!aYYccb
Explanation: Tried this with varied success on lower Mps (0-3)

    Solo/Group farming build #3: http://eu.battle.net...gVed!Xef!ZaYccb
Explanation: Pure tank build if you ask me but it's very viable, almost unkillable with high res/LoH

My personal Uber killer build: http://eu.battle.net...gVRd!XeY!YaYcYb
Explanation: Using Marked for Death to increase party dmg (disregard this if you choose to go with Calamity as a weapon and just use the cookie cutter one)

    3. Farming route Examples

Note: These routes are highly suggestive and can be changed and added to with personal preference in mind. Also note these routes are designed to get the most elite packs nothing else, for paragon farming I tribute everything to Alkaizer for that design :)

    Act 1:
Start on beginning part of “The Imprisoned Angel”->
    Clear Festering woods (Including dungeons)->
    Clear Leorics manor+courtyard->
Clear Cemetary of the forsaken (Including the 3 mausoleums)->
    Clear Halls of agony->Butcher
Optional: Find keywarden in Fields of Misery->
    Profit and remake!

    Act 2:
Start on quest “The Black Soulstone”->
Look for and clear The Vault of Assassins in Desolate sands->
    Clear Sewers of Caldeum->
Clear top Black Canyon mines (the zone closes to the wp)->
    Clear Road to Alcarnus->
Optional: Find keywarden in Dahlgur Oasis->
    Profit and remake!
When farming Act 2 I highly suggest you make a game just to find “Vault of the Assassins” and then remake since you will start in the dungeon itself if you do so.

Act 3: (start quest varies on if you feel able to kill the spiderqueen)
Start on quest “The Second Heart” which is part 2 on “Heart of Sin”->
    Clear Keep Depths Lvl 3->
    Clear Skycrown Battlements+Stonefort->
Clear Rakkis crossing+ Fields of Slaughter->
Clear Tower of the Damned lvl 1->
    Clear Arreat Crater lvl 2->
Clear the rest of the act.

Act 4: Not gonna get in to this act seeing as I never farmed here Ever and there is no reason to do so in my opinion with the trashmobs being a lot harder then act 1-3.

    4. Explanations of Set bonuses and Elemental Affixes
This thread explains Elemental Affixes so good I don't think I have to be a hero and try to reinvent the wheel so to speak: http://www.diablofan...c-blue-clarify/

On the point of Set bonuses. There are a couple that comes in to play when talking about a demon hunter and gear.
To start with Natalyas [1.0.5] and [Legacy]:
    2-set: +7% CC
    3-set: +130 Dex
    4-set: [1.0.5] +20 Max Discipline
4-set: [Legacy] Regenerate 2 Discipline every second

In comparison I say that the 1.0.5 one is a total blowout and is, not to exaggerate, really bad. You need to spend 10 seconds with less then your maximum discipline in a game to get more out of the Legacy one and it can free up a passive skill slot to exchange Nightstalker to something more viable. By all means, IF you feel you can afford a good legacy setup, go for it!

    Inna's 2-set: +130 Dex

This comes in to play if you decide to go with the Inna's legs and plan to use the chest or belt, belt is the choice for most people.

    5. Helpful links to compare gear
Jesta on this forum has spent his time working on: http://d3up.com/
Which offers character imports and a really good summary of your stats

    6. Summary
As I said in the small section in the start of this guide I felt the need to share this after getting some rather good critique on my knowledge about the class from my friends and I've loved this class since the start of Diablo 3 only playing other classes to more fit the composition for my friends groups. I hope people will find this helpful and a good read, but bare in mind that the item section is my personal take on the current selection and does not take PvP in mind.

    1. Introduction

Hello, my name is Zucchero and this is a guide I've made to help out those who are stuck on their way to becoming what they wish in Diablo 3 or are just simply getting into the game. I cover multiple levels of gear in this guide, farm routes for all the acts of the game and a few builds which have proven themselves to be most effective in completing said routes.

I hope you'll find what you're about to read informative and helpful. Use this guide as a reference point and don't be afraid to improvise and improve using the data you have here!

    2. Glossary of terms
    • AoE - Area of Effect.
    • All Res. - A defensive affix.
    • CC - Critical hit chance.
    • CotA - Crypt of the Ancients, a dungeon located in the Act 1 zone, The Festering Woods.
    • CrD // Crit. Dmg - Critical hit damage.
    • Dex - Dexterity, primary attribute of the demon hunter.
    • Disc - Discipline, defense and utility resource of the demon hunter.
    • DH - Demon Hunter.
    • DPS - Damage per Second, your total damage output within a second. This is calculated through an equation based on the character's Attack Speed, Critical Hit Damage, Critical Hit Chance and Dexterity. Click here for a tool with which you can calculate the DPS of your character.
    • EHP - Effective health, which is determined through an equation that takes into account the HP (Health Points) of a character, his avoidance and his resistances/armor. Click here for a tool with which you can calculate the EHP of your character.
    • Hatred - The offensive resource of the Demon Hunter. It is generated by some abilities and consumed by others.
    • Int- Intelligence, a weak defensive attribute for demon hunters.
    • MF - Magic Find.
    • MS - Movement speed.
    • MP - Monster power level.
    • NPC - Non-player character.
    • Vit - Vitality, primary health attribute.
    3. Builds

NOTE: All of the builds listed here have been tested in each of the farm routes that I have recommended. Builds 1 and 2 are fairly equal, the choice boils down to play style really. I've outlined their pros and cons so you can best decide for yourself. They can all be used in both solo-farming and group-farming without any drawbacks.

    1. Build Number 1 - Hungering Arrow / Elemental Arrow -

    PROS:
    • Has very high damage output, both AoE and single target.
    • Ensures a very good pace for farming in lower MP levels and in theory, with a high enough level of gear, it should offer the same even in the highest of MP levels.
    CONS:
    • Poor survivabillity in more sticky situations.
    • Some of the abilities scale poorly with gear, so you'll need to invest a lot before you can use it at high MP levels.
Primary - Hungering Arrow with the Devouring Arrow rune – High single target damage output. (Alternative rune: Spray of Teeth – has decent AoE, but I feel it lacks the variety that Devouring Arrow brings in combination with Elemental Arrow).

Secondary – Elemental Arrow with the Ball Lightning rune – The signature ability of this build, very high AoE damage, low Hatred cost and hits enemies twice.

    Active Skills:

    1. Shadow Power with the Gloom rune – Gives you 15% life steal on all damage dealt and 35% reduced damage taken for 6 seconds. This is an invaluable ability, as it will save your bacon in many situations. When you fire an AoE shot into a group of mobs it will keep you alive through a lot of hurt.

    2. Smoke Screen with the Lingering Fog rune – Makes you invulnerable (except for a few special situations) to any form of damage for 1.5 seconds. I use this when Shadow Power doesn’t quite have the strength to keep me alive. It offers a great escape mechanism, the “Oh-sh*t” button.

    3. Vault with the Tumble rune – Makes traversing terrain, kiting enemies and escaping sticky situations very easy and manageable and it also adds a great sense of mobility to the gameplay.

    4. Preparation with the Backup Plan rune – The extra discipline will come in handy in multiple situations, seeing as this build has 3 very high-cost discipline based abilities. The rune offers a nice little gamble on each use.

    Passive Skills:

    1. Archery – Offers a 15% damage increase across the board for Bows, a 50% critical hit damage increase for Crossbows and a 10% critical hit chance increase when using 1-Handed Crossbows. For this particular build, I recommend using either a Bow or a Two-Handed Crossbow.

    2. Tactical Advantage – Increased movement speed after using Vault or Smoke Screen. This will give you an extra level of mobility and it will shorten your running time significantly.

    3. Steady Aim – 15% damage increase across the board if no enemies are near you. Pretty self-explanatory and it’s a better choice in my opinion than Sharpshooter, seeing as the later only offers a bit of burst at the start of a fight and then completely loses any relevance 3 seconds into it.

I recommend you have at least +10 discipline from your gear for this build, it will make your life considerably easier.

    2. Build Number 2 Bola Shot build (Immortal DH)

    PROS:
    • Offers great levels of survivability.
    • You can take on Infernal Machine bosses on MP3 with ease, if you have over 100k DPS and 450k EHP.
    • Great for trying out higher MP levels.
    CONS:
    • Fairly low amounts of DPS.
    • Doesn't work in low MP levels, build 1 is much more efficient there.
Primary – Bola Shot with the Volatile Explosives rune – This is a very spammable ability, and you will melt groups of enemies very quickly with it.

Secondary – Spike Trap with the Echoing Blast rune – Very high damage output, excellent at killing groups of monsters or stacking 3 beneath a single boss and bursting him down. Given the fact that Bola Shot generates hatred very fast, you will be able to use these quite easily.

    Active Skills:

    1. Shadow Power with the Gloom rune - Gives you 15% life steal on all damage dealt and 35% reduced damage taken for 6 seconds. Same principle as the first build apply here.

    2. Smoke Screen with the Lingering Fog rune – 1.5 second invulnerability will come in handy when your Bola Shots haven’t exploded yet.

    3. Vault with the Tumble rune – Offers mobility and an escape mechanism.

    4. Preparation with the Backup Plan rune - Ensures you can keep the two very discipline dependent abilities (Shadow Power and Smoke Screen) up and available at all times.

    Passive skills:

    1. Night Stalker - Provides the possibility for the DH to become "immortal", by always having enough discipline to keep Shadow Power up and having enough damage output to compensate for any amount of incoming damage.

    2. Perfectionist - Fulfils the same basic principle as Night Stalker. More disc and EHP.

    3. Tactical Advantage - This passive reduces your travel time and adds a little sense of speed to your character.

    3. CotA farming build (only recommended for use in MP1-2 with medium to high-end gear) (SOLO ONLY)
NOTE: This is a dedicated build for a specific type of farm run, see the details here.

Primary – Hungering Arrow with the Devouring Arrow rune – Gives you a bit of burst damage so you can handle the elite.

Secondary – Elemental Arrow with the Ball Lightning rune – You can fire these off as you enter the room and you can be sure you’ll hit everything. If your gear is good enough, you’ll melt through every mob in this area in a matter of seconds.

    Active skills:

    1. Shadow Power with the Gloom glyph – Mandatory ability here, since you will be rushing head long into 50 mobs at a time. It’ll ensure you will stay alive.

    2. Vault with the Tumble glyph – Reduces the time you spend collecting gold and Health Globes and also helps with AoE.

    3. Rain of Vengeance with the Dark Cloud glyph – This will ensure that you will keep your kill streak up and always give your Shadow Power something to leech from.

    4. Preparation with the Backup Plan glyph - Gives you a way of replenishing your discipline in case you ever need it...and you will need it.

    Passive skills:

    1. Tactical Advantage – Speed is the secret here, so this is mandatory.

    2. Vengeance – Gives you near-infinite hatred and some degree of discipline regeneration, very useful for the amount of times you’ll spam Vault.

    3. Archery – Flat-damage increase, always useful.

    4. Gear

NOTE 1: These guides are designed so that you have a rough idea of what gear you can expect, for the money you are willing to spend. When searching for gear upgrades on the AH based off of this guide, please be prepared to make slight adjustments (either increasing if the budget allows it or decreasing if the market price goes up too much) to the affix values, as prices vary constantly.

NOTE 2: I have not included any Magic Find in the mandatory searches. This is a very important aspect, as it skews results and you can never truly make a reliable guide if you factor in MF. In case you are looking for gear with MF, you can still use this guide as a template, as it outlines the basic stat combinations that make the class work, just be prepared to pay a lot more for gear with that particular affix.

As a rule of thumb, when you are looking for gear for a demon hunter, you should look out for the following things:
    • Dexterity is extremely important. The more dexterity you have, the more your Crit. Chance and Crit. Dmg matter and vice-versa. For example, at high end levels of gear ( 2400 dex, 50% crit chance, 40% attack speed and 300+ crit hit damage), a point of Dex will give you approximately 60 DPS.
    • You must strive for at least 40% Crit. Chance and 220% Crit. Dmg. , even at the lowest levels of gear.
    • Your absolute minimum amount of Dexterity should be around 1750.
    1. Entry level gear (
Item Slot Name of item Mandatory affixes Optional Affixes (for BiS) Notes
Head Rare helmet Min Dex. 50, Vit 50, CC 4% and socket Magic find / All res.. If you can find a helmet with the mandatory combination within the budget, buy it ASAP.

    5. Near Best-in-Slot gear // Best-in-Slot gear (500 million+ budget)

    For build 1

Item Slot Name of item Mandatory affixes Optional Affixes (for BiS) Notes
Head Natalya's Sight Minimum 100 Dex and 5.5 CC All Res. / Vitality (for BiS) This is the weakest link in this item build, as there are better alternatives, but the extra 20 discipline makes up for it. This helmet is recommended for Build 1, but can also be used to some extent in Build 2.

Shoulders Vile Ward Minimum 225 Dex and 50 Vit Pick-up Radius These shoulders are BiS and can roll 300 dexterity.

Chest Natalya’s Embrace Minimum 100 Dex, 100 Vit, 10% Life and Max Discipline +8 Increases Spike Trap damage by 10% and/or All Res Best in slot chest for Demon Hunters, regardless of build. Has 3 sockets and extra life as standard + can roll very high dex and vit, as well as max discipline.

Pants Inna’s Temperance Minimum Dex 100, Vit 50 and Min. Attack Speed (unique affix for Inna’s) 9% All. Res instead of Vit. Best in slot damage-orientated pants. These also offer a 12% movement speed and in combination with the set boots you will be near the speed cap.

Boots Natalya’s Bloody Footprints Minimum Dex. 200 and Vit 30 Look for 50 Int on them for some extra All.Res. Best-in-slot boots for Demon Hunter.

Weapon Manticore Minimum Dex 150 and DPS 1100 with 2 sockets Vitality Best-in slot weapon, hands down. Those 2 sockets offer up to 200% extra crit hit damage.

In terms of gems, you should go for a 29% XP gem in your helmet if you want to get XP more quickly or a 17% life gem for EHP. The +50 dex gems should be the minimum level you should have socketed in your gear, as well as 2x Radiant Star Emeralds for your weapon.

What kind of DPS and EHP can I expect from this gear? (Paragon level 0, build 1)
This one is a bit tricky to say, it depends on your luck at the AH. You can have anywhere from 250.000 DPS to upwards of 500.000 DPS. A reasonable estimate would be around 300.000 DPS and 650.000 EHP. This should enable you to do MP6 at a very fast rate, but anything after that just grows exponentially in HP, so I wouldn't say it is worth stretching yourself any further.

    For build 2

Item Slot Name of item Mandatory affixes Optional Affixes (for BiS) Notes
Head Mempo of Twilight Minimum CC of 3.5% This item has no optional affixes. Best-in-slot helmet for the Demon Hunter. Has greater effectiveness in Build 1, but is also very useful in Build 2.

(Paragon level 0, build 2)
Build 2 has less damage output than Build 1, but you will be able to survive anything the game throws at you (including MP10 Uber bosses). At this point your health and damage are so high, you can tank anything using Shadow Power. Projected Stats: 180-300k DPS and 1 - 1.5 million EHP.

    5. Followers

NOTE: The Enchantress and Scoundrel are equally matched up to the highest levels of gear, while the Templar has a severe lack of utility I highly recommended using the Enchantress or the Scoundrel and ignoring the Templar completely.

    1. Enchantress

The Enchantress offers a 3% Attack Speed increase and a small EHP boost. She can also reach the highest levels of MF for a follower, as well as providing limited combat support by charming enemies.

    Recommended skills for the Enchantress
    • Charm - Provides a bit of extra utility in combat. Also can lead to some comical situations
    • Powered Armor - A defensive cooldown of the Enchantress, can help you out on numerous occasions.
    • Disorient - Same basic principle as Charm, extra utility.
    • Focused Mind - Provides 3% extra attack speed. Very useful passive ability.
Recommended gear that you should put on the Enchantress
    • Rings
      • If you are looking for extra MF/GF, you can search for two Rings which have both of these affixes.
      • If you can afford it, the Leoric's Signet in combination with the Hellfire Ring will provide a massive bonus XP increase.
    • Amulet
      • Search for a rare amulet with GF and MF. An alternative to this would be Xephirian Amulet.
    • Weapon
      • Best in slot weapon for the Enchantress is The Grand Vizier. This is the item to strive for, and it will come in handy.

    2. Scoundrel
The Scoundrel is my personal favorite in terms of followers. He offers an extra 3% Critical Hit Chance and decent levels of utility with the right set-up.
    • Crippling Shot - Very useful when kiting hard-hitting enemies.
    • Dirty Fighting - Escape mechanism for the Scoundrel
    • Mutlishot - This in combination with the recommended weapon is going to make kiting a walk in the park.
    • Anatomy - 3% extra Critical Hit Chance. A decent DPS buff.
    Recommended gear for the Scoundrel
    • Rings
      • If you are looking for extra MF/GF, you can search for two Rings which have both of these affixes.
      • If you can afford it, the Leoric's Signet in combination with the Hellfire Ring will provide a massive bonus XP increase
    • Amulet
      • Search for a rare amulet with GF and MF. An alternative to this would be Xephirian Amulet.
    • Weapon
      • I recommend getting a Two-Handed Crossbow or a Bow with Frost damage (you can search for it in the AH). Doesn't have to have damage or any other affix. This is so the Multishot ability becomes very potent.

    3. Templar

I recommend you don't use this follower, and go for one of the other two. It doesn't provide any kind of meaningful utility or DPS/EHP increase. In case you do decide to use it though, I've outlined the recommended skills and items you should get on him.

    Recommended skills for the Templar
    1. Intervene - Makes the Templar able to take some mobs of you, giving him some utility in combat
    2. Intimidate - Limited utility in combat.
    3. Onslaught - Provides some extra damage from the Templar.
    4. Inspire - This is a fairly useful passive ability, but for Demon Hunters it doesn't really provide any meaningful boost.
    Recommended gear for the Templar
    • Weapon
      • A one-handed weapon with Frost Damage is recommended, the other affixes on it are inconsequential.
      • The Best-in-Slot weapon for the Templar is the Sun Keeper, as it provides MF as well.
    • Off-Hand (Shield)
      • You can put any shield on him, as it doesn't provide any real benefit.

    6. Farm routes

    1. Act I
    • Keywarden run

Start at the last quest in Act 1 and teleport to the Festering Woods, clear that area, including the two sub-zones (Crypt of the Ancients and Warrior's Rest), then teleport to Leoric's Manor, go outside into the courtyard, clear it, go to Leoric's Hunting Grounds. At this point you should have 5 stacks so go to the Fields of Misery, find and kill the Warden.

    Abstract: A1, Q10, sub-objective 1 => Festering Woods => Crypt of the Ancients and Warrior’s Rest => TP to Leoric’s Manor => Leoric’s Manor’s Courtyard => Leoric’s Hunting Grounds => TP to Fields of Misery => Warden
    • Efficiency farm run

Start at the last quest in Act 1 and teleport to the Festering Woods, clear that area, including the two sub-zones (Crypt of the Ancients and Warrior's Rest), then teleport to Leoric's Manor, go outside into the courtyard, clear it, go to Leoric's Hunting Grounds and clear that as well.

Continue on with your farm route by going to the Northern Highlands, followed by the Southern Highlands (if you enter this area from the Northern Highlands, go North-West and follow the edge of the map until you find the Watchtower (it has a 50% spawn-rate), clear it, afterwards continue searching the Southern Highlands for the Cave of Moon Clan and clear that as well. In my opinion, if you want to farm Act 1, this is the most efficient route, you can include a few more areas in your route like the Cathedral and the Cemetery of the Forsaken, but I feel they do not have enough elite/champion groups to justify their presence.

Abstract: Act 1, Quest 10, sub-objective 1 => Festering Woods => Crypt of the Ancients and Warrior’s Rest => TP to Leoric’s Manor => Leoric’s Manor’s Courtyard => Leoric’s Hunting Grounds => Northern Highlands => Southern Highlands => Search for Watch Tower and Cave of the Moon Clan => Fields of Misery ==(optional)=> Cathedral level 3 and 4 => Cemetery of the Forsaken and the 3 crypts there.
    • Crypt of the Ancients Runs (SOLO ONLY);
NOTE: Please refer to this for the recommended build that is to be used here.

Start the game with the quest Quest 6 (Broken Blade), sub-objective "Talk to Alaric", teleport to the Drowned Temple, talk to the NPC there and then head over to the Festering Woods and find the Crypt of the Ancients. Once you enter, clear the area and then town portal and log out. At this point, if you click "Resume Game" you will begin at the entrance of this dungeon. Clear it again, town portal and log out, rinse and repeat.

This is a very good way to farm XP and gold and also have a decent chance at item drops. The principle of this run is speed, so doing it in MP0 (or even MP1 if your gear allows it) is very efficient, as long as you can complete a run of the Crypts in about a minute. For this particular run, movement speed and pick-up radius offer massive bonuses.

Highly recommended farm route for people looking to boost their paragon level fairly quickly. (Around 25 million XP/hour).

An alternative to this run is the Warrior's Rest, you follow the same steps, but instead of going to the Crypt of the Ancients, you go to the Warrior's Rest (also in Festering Woods). It isn't as efficient, but if you prefer this dungeon to the other, it is up to you.

Abstract : Act 1, Quest 6, sub-objective 2 => Waygate Drowned Temple => Talk to NPC => Festering Woods => Crypt of the Ancients OR Warrior's Rest => clear => TP back to base => log-out => resume => Rinse and repeat.

Here's a video showcasing this farm route and how to approach it:

    2. Act II
    • Vault of the Assassins runs
You start the game in Act 2, Quest 8 (The Black Soulstone), sub-objective 1. Teleport to the Desolate Sands and find the Vault of the Assassins in this area. Enter and clear it, but do not take the teleporter out of the dungeon, instead town portal, end game and resume. You will start at the beginning of the Vault , rinse and repeat.

High density of elites and champions in this particular dungeon guarantee a high level of efficiency.

I recommend MP3-4 for this run, for efficiency reasons. If your gear allows you to melt through this at a reasonable pace, you can consider upgrading to a higher MP level. (High-end gear level+ only)

Abstract: Act 2, Quest 8, sub-objective 1 => Waygate to Desolate Sands > Vault of the Assassins > clear > TP, exist and resume.
    • Keywarden run

The best route for farming keys in Act 2 is to do a Vault of the Assassins run, town portal and then teleport to the Dahlgur Oasis and search for the Warden.

MP 2-3 is what I recommend for this, for time efficiency. It should take you around 15 minutes per run with a decent gear level (140k DPS with Steady Aim, 350k EHP, 24% movement speed).

Abstract: Act 2, Quest 8, sub-objective 1 => Waygate to Desolate Sands > Vault of the Assassins > TP out > Waygate to Dahlgur Oasis> find and kill Warden.

    3. Act III
    • Azmodan run/Keywarden run

Start the game at Quest 7, sub-objective three "Kill Azmodan" and teleport to the Tower of Damned Level 1, clear that level, go to Tower of the Damned level 2, clear that level, go to Heart of the Damned, clear that level and then take the exit to Arreat Crater Level 2 and use the waygate there to teleport to The Core of Arreat, clear the level, enter the Heart of Sin and defeat Azmodan. At this point you can choose to go for the Key Warden by teleporting to the Stone Fort, finding and killing him.

I recommend this run be done at MP 2-3, it's very fast and efficient and yields great results for normal farming as well as key farming.

Abstract: Act 3, Quest 7, sub-objective 3 => Waygate Tower of the Damned Level 1 => Tower of the Damned level 2 => Heart of the Damned => Use Arreat Crater level 2 waygate to go to the Core of Arreat => Core of Arreat => Azmodan ===(optional)===> TP to Stonefort => Keywarden
    • The long farm run:

Start the game at Quest 7, sub-objective three "Kill Azmodan" and teleport to Arreat Crater level 1, clear the level then enter the Tower of the Damned level 1, clear it, enter Tower of the Damned level 2, clear it, enter the Heart of the Damned, clear it, exit into Arreat Crater level 2 and clear it, enter the Heart of the Cursed level 1 and clear it, enter the Heart of the Cursed level 2, go through the Heart of the Cursed and into the Core of Arreat, clear that level, kill Azmodan and then TP back to the base. Once you've done so, enter the Keep Depths level 1, clear it, enter the Keep Depths level 2, clear it and then do the same with Keep Depths level 3. At this point, you should teleport back to Bastion's Keep and use the waygate to get to Stonefort, clear the level, find and kill the warden.

If you want to make your run extra-long, you can choose to teleport to Rakkis Crossing and proceed south-west towards the Fields of Slaughter. Enter any stores or other dungeons you find along the way. Once you reach the Fields, clear the area and go into the Caverns of Frost/Icefall Caves (only one of these will be spawned at any one time, and each has 2 levels). The extended run is at its most efficient with only these extra areas, adding on any others can prove to be too time-consuming and will break your pace.

This farm run can take up to an hour, so it is a bit of an endurance run (especially the extra-long one). I recommend doing it on MP2, if your gear offers you a comfortable pace.

Abstract: Act 3, Quest 7, sub-objective 3 => Waygate Arreat Crater level 1 => Tower of the Damned level 1 => Tower of the Damned level 2 => Heart of the Damned => Arreat Crater level 2 => Tower of the Cursed Level 1 => Tower of the Cursed level 2 => get to the Core of Arreat through the Heart of the Cursed => Core of Arreat => Azmodan => TP back to base => Keep Depths level 1 => Keep Depths level 2 => Keep Depths level 3 => Stonefort => kill Warden =====(optional)=====> TP back to base => Waygate Rakkis Crossing => proceed South-West towards the Fields of Slaughter => Fields of Slaughter => Caverns of Frost/Icefall Caves level 1 => Caverns of Frost/Icefall Caves level 2.

    4. Act IV

Act 4 is way too inefficient for farming in my opinion, very low mob density, mob difficulty is higher than previous acts with no extra benefit. The only real reason you’d come here is for the Infernal Machine plans, for which I recommend doing a clear from the first quest of the act up to the keeper himself, thus ensuring that you will have 5 Nephalem stacks when you reach him. Try MP3 so you have a higher chance of success when attempting to farm the plan (Mid-range level gear+).
