Hey guys. this has been extremely successful for me so I thought I'd share. I'm sure lots of you have seen many different tank builds similar to this, or other variations, but this one has been extremely successful for me as I cannot remember the last time I died or had to run away from any elites (including inferno acts 3 and 4). Check out my guide, It's fast paced and not a long vid. Feedback on here would be awesome! CHeers guys
tried this build...its crap in infern especially with that low dps rate
with some more dps it ios still very slow and the elite packs are nearly taken half an our each xD
Try not to prioritize Armor and All Resists separately. They should be treated as 1 stat and you want to keep them balanced. If one of them gets much higher than the other it's actually detrimental due to the way they are multiplied.
Here's a great thread that goes over the 10:1 ratio Armor:Resists should be to get the maximum damage reduction.
It's not a concrete rule but it's a great guideline to follow. As you can see in the thread I linked, you CAN have more Armor than Resists or vice versa (to a degree), but the OPTIMAL balance in a 10:1 ratio.
I really liked the video and your build so I just thought I'd drop this tip in case you haven't seen it. Keep up the videos, I'll be watching the rest and looking out for more now.
EDIT:
Just thought I'd share the way I compare things quickly. Not trying to hijack but since this video is to help people survive, just thought I would share my thoughts and methods.
You can already get these figures by mousing over and looking at the details pain, but here are the formulas.
Once I have those 2 figures, they are multiplied to figure out my actual, total DR.
1 - ((1 - Armor_DR) * (1 - Resist_DR) * (1 - Affix_DR)) = Total_DR
(Affix_DR is something like Melee Damage Reduction % or Elite Damage Reduction %)
At this point, you can play with the Armor_DR, Resist_DR, and Affix_DR to see what would be a better upgrade for you. This is also a good way to compare something like 6% Elite Damage Reduction on a chest to a another chest with 60 All Resists.
I've seen a few of your vids, and some are quite nice.
But IMO going tanky doesn't mean to absolutely lose an eye on your DPS - with 3k DPS I bet you would run into Belias enrage for example and die in fucking pain in the green puddles!
I'm tank-doctor myself, and still running with ~15k unbuffed.
This should be also easily obtainable for a DH.
I mean your stats are not THAT extraordinarily good (~900 allres, ~6k AC, 1.8k LoH), that any class should reach it even with "budget" purchases on the AH and getting more than 3k DPS which is - like Cloudie already stated - just super low.
I'm curious, how much gold did you invest in the gear ?
Was it just a quick idea to show it is possible to come up with a tanky DH, or have you seriously tried to exhaust your capabilities in view of caps etc. ?
i actually bought that gear for my wiz (if you notice i went much higher intel then dex. But I thought i would try it out with my DH to seeif they can tank as well as other classes and it turned out awesome. i spent maybe 20mins buying the gear and it only costed me a few mil gold
cool video.. i rather just kill shit in 15 seconds lol, but cool all the same. maybe good for group play?
it's reallyyy good if your buddy or whoever you play with is a glass cannon. it also seems to be the cheapest and easiest way ive come across to beat all of inferno
I can understand the use for tanking bosses as if you have RNG against you - there is nothing worse than getting quite far into an encounter then BAM; dead. Good video though, good job!
so update for this.. playing my dh only to have a bit change from my barb.. tried out this build, bought a 1h xbow for like 2,5m and some res dex vit gear..
my results so far are very nice, makes really fun clustering and bombing the whole screen whil tanking and just dealing dmg..
my dps is about 25k and im dwing now as well (still in act2 but progressing quests to a3)
will update again if i can hold my speed in a3 and what stats i need for that..
spec: ss(12disc), huntermark(3hatred), caltrops(spikey), companion(3hatred), grenade(poison) cluster(bear), grenadier,wpn master and custom engineering
think they synergize well cuz of the grenadier passive and with huntermark+companion i can spam cluster arrow nearly constantly
for the really heavy situation i got a ss with low disc to escape (but only waller arcane jailer or such thing is heavy with those firebomb-mobs for example.
really much fun i say
next update when im in a3
Cluster Arrow has a terrible damage to hatred cost ratio if you're using hand crossbows. But if you really want to use it, you might find Vengeance to be a better passive, as it will still allow for three Cluster Arrow shots per globe of hatred, and also has the added bonus of health globes giving hatred and discipline. I'm not a tank DH though, so maybe you're finding the extra hatred generation from regular grenades to be worth it? Either way I think with hand crossbows you're wasting hatred and a passive skill slot to use Cluster Arrow. Maybe if you had really good handcross bows with 150%+ crit damage on each it might work, but with only 25k dps, i doubt that is the case.
I as well actually play a tanking DH, I can say that 3k dps is low even for a tanking DH spec. I have 8-10k and can kill pretty much any elite pack A1-3 (Belial's enrage is an issue but just bring in a friend and boom done it is a group spec id say anyways)

You can already get these figures by mousing over and looking at the details pain, but here are the formulas.
RESISTS / ((5 * monster level) + RESISTS) = Resists DR
ARMOR / ((50 * monster level) + ARMOR) = Armor DR
Once I have those 2 figures, they are multiplied to figure out my actual, total DR.
1 - ((1 - Armor_DR) * (1 - Resist_DR) * (1 - Affix_DR)) = Total_DR

Pretty much. A barb or monk can do the same thing and have much more damage.
Skull enrage timers on every champ fight? No thanks.
btw, there are no tanks in D3.
