I'm sorry if my question sounds dumb, but everything I read here is about Nether Tentacles or Lightning Bolt (post patch NT got nerfed but many DHs still play NT)
What is so bad about the Frost Arrow? Its much faster than both Balls and after its first hit it spreads to multiple targets. When SS is stacked the first shot crits with every single frost shard from that shot. AND there is a slow effect what is really useful.
Please correct me if i'm wrong, at the moment I'm farming act1 for money and better gear. Maybe the Elite of the dreadlands can just add their two cents to that discussion.

Try them all. I am going fora huge nuke build so frost arrow is out of the question.
Frost arrow won't pierce through Invul/shielded mobs (it might split, not sure about that, but it's still not a split).
It hits far less targets, and is thus a singletarget spell, NOT an aoe spell, meaning you'd have to get some kind of AOE for huge packs of weak mobs anyway.
Its worth noting(though I am not 100% sure on this) that Cull the Weak seems to apply to Frost Arrow regardless of whether the mob was slowed before or not. Thus you get a constant 15% damage increase to Frost Arrow with Cull the Weak.(If I'm correct in this.)
I dropped Elemental Arrow entirely. People are really stuck on the skill. Don't get me wrong..it has plenty of uses, but we have so many other viable options that hardly anyone even looks at.
The build requires more precise play so is not for everyone, but allows you to use smoke screen as an aggressive ability alongside Fan of Knives to pull of some impressive nukes. In fact I can outright destroy all non-shielding champion packs in infinitely faster than I could with the IAS+Nether Tentacle pre-nerf build.
Grenadier as a passive is a great alternative for archery or sharpshooter depending on your gear. Additionally you can swap the Cluster Rune to something else like Loaded for Bear.
With sufficient vit+resist all you can drop SS for Shadow Power (Gloom) for a more efficient use of discipline.
How do I survive without caltrops or some form of slow? Use the scoundrel with Multishot and a cold weapon. It's more or less a permanent aoe slow. You also have enough burst to destroy reflecting mobs while SS is up (just make sure you read affixes before you fire off some huge damage and kill yourself)
There is huge burst potential with spike traps and you can set them up prior to pulling a pack. Afterwards simply Cluster->Evasive->Cluster->Smoke Screen/Run in for a FoK. If mobs aren't dead simply evasive fire out and they will die shortly after.
I totally changed my gear setup for 1.03 and am able to farm acts 1-4 as good if not better than I could prior to the "nerfs"

OP, diablo isnt wow. you're better off figuring things out on your own and finding what works best for you.

Havn't seen the video, but saw the build in another post. I am loving it. So much nuke.
Especially like smoke screening and tossing FoN like a boss! Works especially well with a slow weapon/lack of IAS.

Actually, not true. I've found that Frost Arrow is superb against Invulnerable minions. Spamming it on the shielded/immune target quickly takes out the non-invulnerable target. WAY better than Nether imo for this job. I also use it as an AoE just fine. It spreads nicely, does great damage(170% instantly for 10 hatred, VS 155% for a slow shot(Ball Lightning), or 165% for 20 hatred(Multishot)), but its not quite as large of an AoE of course. It works well though. I use it for my standard spam button, and Impale for bosses/champions/rares. Works well for me!
I dropped Elemental Arrow entirely. People are really stuck on the skill. Don't get me wrong..it has plenty of uses, but we have so many other viable options that hardly anyone even looks at.

I'd been seeing that build here and there, but I was uncertain of the tactics to use with it. Now that I see it in action I might give it a go. The one thing I couldn't really figure out though was the actual use of cluster, though. It seemed like most of his damage was coming from evasive and trap even on the boss.
edit: Well, I gave it a shot (no pun intended) and I really enjoyed it. Just walked all over act 1 for a trial run of learning it. Even more surprisingly I adapted to the playstyle fairly quickly. Maybe I was meant for this kind of sprinting around and bombing things haha

Are you asking about "my gear"? Cluster is a great nuke that can 1-shot things easily. At minimum, 2-shots. It's raining gold if you crit especially. It's a good AOE ability. The same with FON. It has an insane 300%+ damage, with low cost (20 hatred) and 10 second cooldown. It also adds a slow. With 125 hatred, you are guaranteed 2x cluster arrow and 1x FON, it also adds a slow so you are do not need caltrope anymore. You should able to keep your distance with tactical advantage anyways. Evasive fire works nicely with good gear because you are not missing a whole lot from hungering arrow, it hits 3 target, and your aim does not have to be on point. It's a nice spray/aoe ability, a free mini-multishot. Got more to say, but I gotta do some work!
Edit: The trap does a crazy amount of damage, especially if they crit, or walk over more than one. It's July 4th celebration! High damage+low cost (runed)=win.

It depends upon your gear level and how fast you can kill things. Personally, my gear level is so-so, not being willing to spend 10 mil per slot so I tend to go with a control spec which includes entangle/chain and ele/frost. Basically everything is perma slowed which makes it easier to kite. I dropped SS for Cull the Weak, since everything is slowed, everything is hit for 15% more damage and I take marked/mortal for another 15% on the main target. This allows me to also get Prep, Vault and Shadow Power/Gloom.
One of the keys to this build is boosting your Max discipline. I can chain 4 Shadow/Gloom combos before popping prep and that's 12+ seconds of being able to face tank any champs in Act I ... then I pop prep and get another 12 seconds. If they are not dead by then, I can always kite away due to perma slow.
The only packs I am having a hard time against now are wallers / deso's as they wall me in, I can't hit them, then they put fire under my feet. It's just incredibly annoying to not be able to shoot them ... blizzard really needs to fix the waller AI as it's pretty dam stupid that I constantly get "boxed" in to the point where not only can I not move, but I can't shoot the mobs, nor can then hit me.
So yea ... I call it a "control spec" cause that is what it's about ... controlling the horde. Stuff doesn't die quite as fast, but then again, neither do you :-).
You should note that Entangling Arrow deals damage to all enemies it chains, so it's actually an AoE and a slow, and a hatred generator, AoE damaging 4 enemies with chain gain.
Using bat companion for extra hatred regen so I can pump more clusters out.
I also love using scoundrel with a weapon that has +cold damage really useful form of crowd control/slow with his 3 arrow ability.
Using caltrops with the damage rune as it can be stacked 5 times on the ground using preparation and it applies 225% weapon damage (@ 5 stacks) per second to enemies walking over it.
I've been using frost arrow on my DH since the patch, with decent success (just hit 60 yesterday and still progressing on act 2). Tried cluster arrow: loaded for bear, but it just seems so expensive and I'm not able to reliably burst stuff down with my current gear (around 30k without ss).
Another thing I dislike about cluster arrow is the fact that it seems to be really dumb sometimes when it comes to aiming. I use shift + ability most of the time to cast without targetting anything but whenever I do that with cluster arrow, I'll point my mouse around the middle of the pack and shoot, but then the arrow decides it wants to auto target a single mob at the front of the pack resulting in the arrow only hitting that one target and me having spent half my hatred. I may just be using it the wrong way, but as it is (for me) I don't enjoy using it.
Also on the subject of invuln minions / shielding, from my experience so far, frost arrow seems to work fine for me as long as the boss isn't a ranged with fast melee minions.
Cluster arrow will hit where your mouse cursor is. So hover over the monster.
There might be some terrain issue, or range issue that could prevent you from landing it properly. If you aren't taking evasive fire, devouring arrow is still viable for the seeking. Depending on my group play, I've had to switch out Evasive Fire just for that kind of required range for sniping.
Cluster arrow also works very well for invuln affixes due to the fact you can shoot over the invuln and hit the boss. I am actually doing a lot better vs invuln packs with this build than previously. I also find running toward the elite pack w/ SS+FON, and than spamming Cluster Arrow when I pass the pack to be really effective.
Edit: one thing I really do miss is raining vengeance for invuln pacts because it worked really well against them. When you stun an elite or rare, you can really just unload the heck out of them!! Alas, the good days of NT is gone. :\
