Can anyone tell me how the hell this boss is supposed to even be possible? I was progressing slowly through act3, lots of repair bills, lots of frustration, blah blah, but was making headway. But then I hit Ghom. And Now I'm just stuck. I really don't understand how this boss is possible to solo in it's current state without having 200k dps. I'll get him to 80%-ish fairly easily, but then the entire room is filled with shit that kills you in <5 secs. I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing is working. Seriously, if any DH out there can do this, then please enlighten me. I am out of ideas and extremely frustrated. Help?
Get WP behind him from someone, continue, do the same at SB and Cydea.
With 42,5k prebuffs I can drop him to 50%, which means you need ~90k to burn him through before room is filled. As alternative, some people say it is possible to run in a bit when his internal cooldown is going up, moving in slight zigzag, and maybe, just maybe, you will kite him around long for first cloud to despawn. I haven't really tested it though, lack of rewards and punishment for each death makes it not worth for me.
The fight is about positioning the clouds. Don't bounce all over the room or you spread poison everywhere almost immediately. shadow power gloom helps too!

I Understand not being all over the room, I stick to the edges of the kill-cloud, but then how exactly do you deal with the adds? Tortuous Ground them? I tried that too, but couldn't kill them fast enough. Is this just a massive "Blizz cockblock-you-fight" with gear-checks? Or am I missing something?
Oh, it is beatable. But is it beatable in skillset you farm elites? After nerf to Valor stacks on bosses, Blizz 'noticed' more player skipping them, so you can imagine it will get buffed back on. But if boss itself remain as it is, I doubt people will bother.

Yes, it is. Everyone having trouble must not have played WoW. It is a gear check yes. But it's not overtuned at all. I killed him not even using 1/4 the room. You take him to the edge of the room, he spawns a cloud on himself and you. So what you do is stand at his feet until he spawns the cloud then back up to the edge of the cloud and again stand at his feet until he spawns a cloud. When adds spawn just frost arrow/ball lightning. When you need a heal use shadow power, not that hard.
My normal act3 farm build is - Impale, Bat, gloom, focused mind, ha-puncture, frost arrow. I swap bat for mark in groups, or sometimes caltrops because ppl are bad and run making it much harder for me.
Get around 900 loh and the cheapest vit/dex/AR gear you can find. Dps is inconsequential. Easy enough with 30k hp, ~600 AR, 2.7k armor, and a sad 10k dps. I used double 1h's for faster attack speed with loh on each. Bought the set specifically for this fight, cost about 500k.
Grenades - Poison
Chakram - Shuriken Cloud
Shadow Power - Gloom
Sentry - Guardian
Caltrops - Jagged Spikes
Preparation - Backup Plan or w/e you want
Custom Engineering
Nightstalker (Not so important)
Numbing Traps
Fight starts, drop a sentry and a caltrop. Before things get ticking you might want to pop an early shadow power. Once you're stable, it's just a grenade spam while refreshing caltrops, sentry, and chakram. Shadow Power if things get nasty, but it's nothing an extra caltrops won't give you in loh if you double stack them.
As an aside, I like the people saying it's a l2p issue. It's clearly not when the fight is a total cockblock for any glass cannon build and the fight requires significant tank gear in order to stack the clouds tight enough to allow them to despawn, at which time you hit enrage. Poorly designed mechanics ftl.
I already said it's a gear check but the dps requirement is very low. Low enough that you could drop glass cannon gear in favor of survival stats. You know... as was intended.
I'm willing to bet it's a combination of peoples gear on top of the fact that they run around the room placing clouds carelessly. I saw some advice saying to zigzag clouds and that's an awful suggestion.
