gonna try it tonight then but lots of people talking about impales 250% weapon dam. anyone try this last night? or today.
I switched to BL for the AoE. Further, I dropped vault and took Impale+Wounds for my Nuke. Yes, DH's are now a 3 button class imo ... a Generator, an AoE, and a Nuke.
Was thinking of trying something exactly like that out tonight.
I also want to try Multishot. Last time I used it was leveling in normal so maybe it's not as awesome as I remember. I'm just hoping my gear is good enough for Gloom to fully replace Smoke Screen. I don't think I can live without Vault. Smoke Screen and Gloom are just two different buttons for the same things so I really need to just pick one.
Pretty much exactly what I tried ... and then I tried some variations.
I dropped vault for impale+wounds ... love the big crits ... love being able to just kill on demand ... when I crit ... and when I have hatred ... need to work on both of those via gear.
For a generator, HA+Devour just isn't cutting it. It's nice to have a hard hitting generator, but not as necessary if the generator is fueling impale. Currently I am doing entangling + justice for the 6 hatred a pop. I like the added benefit of slowing most mobs as well. It does feel weird, but I am getting used to it.
I definitely like BL better then NT now, mainly for the wide path. Some peeps might say "Lrn2Aim", but in reality, stuff moves all over the place and BL seems to be hitting a lot of stuff that NT would miss regardless of how well I position myself / aim.
Overall though, I am still not happy. It's probably gear related, I really want to try Frost Arrow, but the combo of 3 BL's + SS + 2 Impales on Reflect Mobs is something I would have a hard time living without.
Tried out this build yesterday and it was the most fun I had with DH in a long time. Loaded for Bear feels like a bazooka and going on full DPS (67k w/o SS and a lot of crit chance) most elite mobs dies in a couple of rounds in ACT I, and maybe 5-6 in ACT 3, its extremely fast. Cluster Granades are fun and a great deal of damage when you are close, but loose effect agains mobs far away. Not the best way to go if you are full glass cannon. Farming ACT I with MF gear (39k DPS) and having a blast with it. Extremely easy to kill reflect damage elite mobs. Your biggest threat is invunerable minions but that one barely appears.

I did the same as quoted poster. However, it definitely takes a lot longer to kill stuff and I run into issues with lack of hatred due to high cost of impale and low attack speed to gain hatred back.
Missing vault is a pain, Im getting cornered or walled in from time to time, which lead to deaths since I do not have vault to get through mobs. However, I could not live without SS, Prep & caltrops.
I am in the Hatred Generation dog house as well. I switched over from HA/Devour to Entangling/Justice for the 6 per pop, but at an overall 1.73 AS, it's just not enough. Since entangling is a slow (enough to stutter normally), then I could drop trops in favor of bat or marked/mortal. I am leaning towards marked because it should produce way more hatred then bat when I need it. (boosts my entangling to 9 per pop) plus reduces impale from 30 to 27 (sorta).
I have a feeling that if I drop trops, I am not going to be comfortable with just entangling / ss ... probably have to switch BL over to FA for safety reasons.
Nothing. Switched my Marked for Death with Multishot, so now running SS-Vault-Prep-Multi-Devouring-NT. NT works wonders for kiting in small closed off spaces (as you have loads of doorways and turns where you can unload a beam of them and make sure you hit everything), for invul minions, and Multishot works wonder for AOE. With 93K dps, singletarget with devouring arrow is more than fine, too.
I am at 98k Damage post nerf with SS and have been playing around with ACT I Butcher runs to test different playstyles (though admittedly, this is not an ideal test because ACT I is easy mode). So far BL has suited my playstyle the best and replicated how I was playing prior to the nerf (standard build, devouring arrow, NT, smoke screen, preparation, and caltrops). I completed ACT III last night using Frost Arrow and hated it the entire way. I'll test out BL tonight in ACT III and see how it goes.
I just recently made a DH, so I never felt the awesome power that it seems NT used to be. I just finished Hell today and used Ball Lightning as my primary attack, with devouring arrow aside when I run out of Hatred. Ball Lightning is able to hit 1 target more than 1 time, and I thought that was the special (bug or not) thing about NT and why it was so good, so why isn't everyone just using ball lightning? I'm confused =P. I did try NT though when I reached 59 but it has less aoe than BL and the life steal is so tiny that I don't really need it.
TL;DR Ball Lightning
Played around with caltrops, marked target, gloom, cluster arrow, frost arrow, and other variations for a day. I ended up keeping my old spec but swapping NT with BL to keep the playstyle that suits me.
Question - does ball lightning give on hit effects twice since it hits twice for half damage? If so i might actually invest in a life on hit amulet for those pesky reflect damage elites and the seigebraker.
yes, or what kind of dps, health, resists are you running with?

Any tips or constructive criticism?
Thank you.
EDIT: I am currently only on 40k DPS
TL;DR Ball Lightning
Frost Arrow/Chain Gang/Cull of the Weak all the way.
