I was wondering what stats are already counted in the DPS value of the weapon.
I mean are all the blue stats (damage stats not vit for sure) are already included in the DPS written on the top or do you have to add them to the DPS?
For instance,
I saw a 2H crossbow at 1.28 speed whereas all 2H crossbow are 1.1 speed attack.
In blue stat there is a +16% attack speed which makes the weapon at 1.28 speed.
I checked and the DPS written on the top is the average Dmg X speed attack of the weapon (1.28 and not 1.1). If you multiply the average dmg by 1.1 the DPS is lower and does not fit to what is written.
To conclude, the DPS written on the top is already included the attack speed in blue stat.
I figured this out a while back from the game guide using legendaries and I assume it works the same way in game:
a = average weapon damage (compute from min + (max - min)/2 and these numbers already count physical damage improvements like +x-y damage or +min damage)
b = average(s) of any other damage bonuses on a per-hit basis (elemental damage affixes for example, and compute these the same way as a. If there are multiples, sum them)
c = attacks per second counting any bonuses (already computed in the tooltip)
DPS = ( a + b ) * c
+% damage affixes are already figured into a and b, and +%attack speed is already figured into c in the tooltip. Also the result of this formula will be slightly off (probably due to rounding errors in the tooltip values shown), but it should be within 1 DPS of the tooltip value.
While the DPS value can be useful for quickly ball-parking weapons, it isn't a particularly useful number if you get into serious number-crunching. This is because for two weapons with identical DPS and which are identical in every other way except attack speed, the faster weapon will be better if you have any +damage rings / amulets / etc., but the slow weapon can be better for managing resources (Mana and Arcane Power primarily) or if it takes one hit of the slow weapon to kill something but two hits of the faster weapon. Typically though, faster is almost always better.
EDIT: Corrected the formula and double-checked myself, which is good because my memory was pretty badly wrong.

...and if you disagree with me, you're probably <insert random ad hominem attack here>.
Are you sure ?
Take a look at the weapon below.
Using you formula :
a = (655+1152)/2 + (276+643)/2= 1363
b = 1.2
c = 1.35
DPS = 1363*1.2*1.35 = 2 208.06
The DPS is 1 083.8 though.
In my opinion, a more correct version of the fomula would be DPS = a * b, the additionnal bonuses (str, %dmg, elemental dmg etc.) are not included into the dps shown in the tooltips.
Yeah, I realized my memory was faulty and corrected it above.
In the corrected formula:
a = (1152 - 655)/2 + 655 = 903.5
b = 0
c = 1.2
(903.5 + 0) * 1.2 = 1084.2
EDIT: Elemental damage and +% damage are most definitely included in the DPS number in the tooltip, though elemental damage is not reflected in the damage range shown right under DPS. This is easy to see if you go to the auction house and look through weapons based on the same base item where some have these affixes and some do not.

Well, I did some further researches, it seems that I was wrong too... or am I ? :/
The base item, for the spear linked above should be : http://d3db.com/item/i/centurion-spear
In this tooltip, you can clearly see that without any affixe (no modifier), the top end damage is 320.
If you add the 643 dmg bonus and multiply by 1.20 (which is the atk speed), you get (320+643)*1.20=1155.6 DPS which is slightly above the dps of the spear previously shown.
So to make long story short, the DPS written in the tooltip seems to include the +X dmg and the +% dmg bonuses.
I'd guess it is the same for the +X attack speed and any elemental dmg, but I'm not sure it is the case for stats bonus such as str, dext etc. Moreover, I'm pretty sure it doesn't include +% crit dmg.
...Can't wait till they make the legendary weapons worthwhile... This is just ridiculous...
Not to derail the topic, but Bashiok and at least one other blue have come straight out and said that best-in-slot for every slot is supposed to be a well-rolled rare, not a legendary. My personal take on legendaries is that they are mostly there for flavor, to make sure gear existed which was reasonable to use when starting Inferno A1 before anyone had farmed any good level 60 rares, and to give the occasional out-of-slot affix for builds that strongly value a particular affix. Maybe that'll change as the game goes forward, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you very much for this link it is very useful !!
I did several test and now i can tell stats included in DPS are:
+% dmg
+% attack speed
+ X dmg (eg: 110-330 arcane dmg)
+ X attack per sec

Is it the same for:
+% dmg
+ flat dmg (like 110-330 arcane dmg)
+max dmg
+min dmg
...
what about dexterity? is it also already included?
if it does include every DPS stat already it looks like we only have to care about the DPS written ...
Thanks guys
