I understand very well what the abilities, capabilities and limitations of Demon Hunters are. My buddy plans to level as a different class with me on release day, and we're talking a lot about which class would have the best synergy with a Demon Hunter in a 2-man team.
We DO plan to 2-man through Inferno difficulty eventually, so all of our decisions are based on how we feel we might fare off taking on the challenge, not necessarily about which classes we think would be the most "fun" or most "AoE lolfest" to play in the lesser difficulties.
SO! Which class do you feel has the best complimentary abilities alongside a Demon Hunter, and why?
So a Witch Doctor would be a little less desirable than a Monk? We've both been drooling a lot over Demon Hunters, but we understand that double DH would be redundant, so if he were to play as a DH instead, I would lean towards a Witch Doctor, myself. A monk does seem interesting, though
Basically your 1st priority imo is to ensure you don't want the same items. So I would say to eliminate the DH and Monk right off the bat, unless your friend simply has to play one of them.
At that point you have the barb, wd, and wizard.
The DH is a glass cannon in D3. She relies on hitting like a truck and kiting.
The wizard and DH's play style mirror each other too much imo, making it a mediocre duo for PvM.
Ideally she is going to want someone to melee for her, thus alleviating the need to kite.
The WD's pets and the Barb could both fulfill this role nicely.
(The monk wouldn't be a terrible choice either, but there is the gear issue mentioned above)
Wizard or DH or Petless WD = hell no
Monk = meh
WD or Barb = Best pick imo

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
I could see how using the Gargantuan/Fetish Army in conjunction with Zombie Dogs and Big Bad Voodoo would really beef up your minions and the DH's damage at the same time, while regenerative passives and CC from both the WD and DH could easily keep things at bay.
Would be a good pick imo. One of the WD's main weakness is a lack of slows, and that is a specialty of the DH.
You wouldn't have to go that hardcore on pets, at least get like gargantuan though.

And why DH+Wiz - not a good team? They will do a much dmg and creeps will not ever come close.
At inferno creeps got 20-200k dmg per hit, barb, at well, will got 90% absord dmg per hit... i don't think what barb will got 50k HP for tanking 4-7 creeps at once... he will die fast.
I would say the Wiz and DH have reasonable synergy. Primarily in the fact they both have access to Snares and immobilizes with different restrictions/cds. But the Wizard can make enemies weak to arcane damage, and the DH has at least one ability that can deal arcane damage to benefit from it. But they also both have turrets ( sentry and hydra) and "pets" ( companion and familiar) so if you want/need to ktie while minions do work they both can support that playstyle.
Plus hard to target spells like Spike Trap + Long Fuse and Meteor are easier to use when both players want to engage in that playstyle and will use/alternate their immobilizes to ensure maximium enemies caught in the effects of those hgih damage spells with delays before the damage.
The DH also has acccess to several stuns which can help out a wizard in trouble. And the Wiz has slow time, frost nova, mirror images , and wave of force that might help out a DH.
I'm sure there's more I'm missing, and that plenty of other classes have plenty of synrgy but there seemed to be a lot of wiz/dh hate so i figure I'd give it a bit of thought.
I disagree. The Wizard if nothign else has a ton of snares be it 30% on arcane damage or ray of frost, or frozen meteors. after wave of force etc etc.
This makes it much more viable for a DH to take Cull the Weak passive without having to use Entangling shot himself. OR not having to entangling shot at the start of every fight. Its the small quality of life benefits like this that stack up quickly. I mean yea you can spam caltrops around and shit, but it costs disc and there will still be enemies not in its effect. another source of snares can only help your damage. And if it frees you to use a couple pure damage runes instead of snaring ones, thats a net gain too.
Anyway as i said the DH and Wizard have very similiar playstyles and thus are naturall complimentary even if they don't have abilities like allies deal 15% more dmg or w/e.

Yeah, that sounds like a fun idea to me.

Cuz I don't.
It also has a pretty good CD on it.
WD lacks AoE slow, its a natural weakness of the class. That's why they get pets to tank for them.
The DH lacks tanking ability. She can't take hits.
We just learned that pets can tank in inferno just fine.
Perfect match imo.
A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!

DH has like zero synergy with Barb (Melee + range not supporting each other or matching playstyle), Monk (Shared Dex gear), WH (shared dex gear).
