Plenty of people talk a lot about testing builds with Melee Wizards but what about a melee DH? There are a lot of one handed weapons on the D3 items page that they can use.
Now I'm sure it is possible to use swords as a DH but will you lose all of your skills? Is it at all possible to use the skills like Hungering Arrow without a bow/xbow? The skill doesn't specifically say it needs a bow and I'm not in beta so I'm a little curious. If it is not possible to use those skills while having a melee weapons equipped why have these weapons available to the class.
If anyone that is currently in the beta can confirm skills with swords for the DH I would really appreciate it.
Edit : I actually want to try this build out now =D Throw down some caltrops / spike traps / sentry then toss out chakrams and grenades whenever the hell you feel like it =)
This is definitely something I will be testing out once the full game is released. I hope that it is at least possible to use some of the skills without a bow or it wouldn't make sense to even let DH's use swords + shields. At the moment it seems a little difficult to pick passive abilities while avoiding ranged attacks. Maybe when Bliz finishes altering the DH they will have something new to help melee more.
1. Alabaster run + fan of knives. Is it a one shot deal or will it proc each and everytime you get hit during that 20 seconds?
2. Shadow Power + blood moon may be OP if the atk spd. of melee atks are adequately increased. (Rough theoretical damage at 666% wp per second x 45% healing conversion for a min of 300% healing, with spike trap bursts jumping it to 1100% damage and 495% healing.
3. Anybody make a cost comparison between Custom Engineering vs. Perfectionist yet? Depending on the play-style, you could argue that sentry / caltrops are now being cast at 50% their original cost.
As well, the passive thrill of the hunt may be slightly beneficial in this build. (though I likely wouldn't take it.

On topic : Pretty positive its ranged weapons or go home on the DH, I doubt all those ranged attacks work with melee.
BUT, you COULD make yourself a trap / grenades type of build.
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#fhWjZd!eVf!cbYcYa threw that together in like 10 seconds, possibly build that wouldn't use ranged weapons, but instead w/e else they can equip.
