Why would they do this? Before, Impale sounded like the Javelin gun from Deadspace 2 which would go straight through enemies, carrying both enemy and projectile to the other side of the room where the javelin would land embedded in the wall. I was super hyped for it, but now one of the art geniuses in charge has decided that was too cool and replaced it with a dinky dagger throw. A dinky PINK dagger throw. If this weren't totally serious I'd swear it was an April Fool's joke.
It has grown on me, in a way. I like the ability itself, and think it's cool to turn around all of a sudden a sink a dagger into something's face. Every time I do it I think, "DAGGER TO THE FASE!" (Thank my ex-guild leader in WoW for that >.>).
But I don't like it as Impale, I liked Impale before, and it worked more for me as a shot. It doesn't feel right to me when I'm shooting arrows at something, then suddenly start throwing daggers. Especially as a hatred generator, something you might be spamming, it doesn't seem right for the class. I think it would make more sense if it was a spender of some sort and had some effect to it (like a snare, I don't know). That's my opinion though, they may change it. Either way, I think I'll get used to it, since I don't mind it nearly as much as I did originally.

Pink? Doesn't look pink to me. Here's a screenshot too for anyone who doesn't know what it looks like:
I do agree with the OP. I don't know how you feel, but for me it feels like if blizzard does constantly rework and iterate in this fashion, they'll never finish this game ... They are improving a big amount of stuff, while on the other hand, they change things for the worse (skills, mechanics etc.).
Is it even physically possibly to impale so. with a dagger? Impaling sounds a lot more powerful than it can by done with a dagger to me.
@fragdieb, I agree, it doesn't seem right for a dagger throw to be called "Impale."
Thirded. This is a totally different skill, and honestly I think it looks and functions way too much like magic missile from a distance. Also the skill is just boring, which is weird because throwing a dagger should be awesome. The dagger-throwing idea fits the DH motif, I think, but the thing is she already HAS a dagger throwing skill (fan of knives, which changes to throwing daggers with an indigo rune), and I don't think she needs another one, especially as a main skill that sounds way worse than runed fan of knives.
I've been pretty on board with Blizzard about most of the changes, but I am actually disappointed with this one. The skill looked awesome before and was really unique because it hit targets instantly (I wonder if this is why they decided to change it). It was clear that impale was going to be a totally awesome skill in PvP with the damage and instant hit (which would probably make it invulnerable to slow time, which would otherwise be a real DH stopper), and I really looked forward to using it. Now, not so much.
Someone in another thread brought up a good point about this ability. It's a dagger throw skill now so that Demon Hunters who don't use ranged weapons have another option. Though I do see the idea behind that, since if you're going to play a melee DH you can't use many of the abilities, I still don't really like it. This is most likely Blizzard's line of thinking and their reason for changing it, from what I can gather.
Still not a huge fan of it, but I can get used to it. And there's still time for them to change things still. Maybe in the next patch they'll change it so you launch a pancake with a spoon.
Someone else said it first, about making Impale a dagger throw so melee Demon Hunters could use it, so I figured they were right. I just tested it though... and you still need a ranged weapon to use it anyway. So really, what is the point in changing it from a shot?! The animation shows you throwing the dagger from your hand anyway, not sure why it still requires a ranged weapon.
Why not keep both new and old Impale the dagger as a generator and old one as spender ??! i love both of them
old impale was like that hard hitting awesome shot and the new one will make my melee DH more viable.
I loved it as the HUGE hitting awesome shot that it was before... And unless they change it, it's completely useless for a melee DH, like I said in my post above. :/

i think Melee DH is possible and removing the requirement of a ranged weapon is no big deal...
But if they can't keep both and i have to choose then old impale is way better
I definitely think melee DH is possible, I was just surprised when I created a new DH and got a melee weapon for it and saw that I couldn't use Impale with it. I figured that was the whole reason they made the change to a dagger throw in the first place. I don't think it's a big deal to change the weapon requirement either, I was just stating what it is in beta and was disappointed I couldn't use the skill as a melee DH.
That being said, I wonder what else will require a range weapon even if you think it wouldn't. I definitely think Rain of Vengeance would require it, even though the rune makes it seem like it has nothing to do with your bow.
Rain of vengence will definetly require a ranged weapon so i was thinking of replacing it with grenades or sentry,
anyway i totally agree, if they are going to keep the ranged requirement then it is not worth it.

/the impact looks very girly ^
Weird, I didn't notice that, but then again I wasn't using it a whole lot. I just went out to test it and it was only happening half the time for me.
But I think that's a graphic bug and it won't stay that way, the same way that Mortar enchanted monsters are messed up.

I dunno, i'm really frustrated with the DH right now. I still don't buy "hatred generator" skills at all. And now all this huge skill changes...
At first i was a DH hater. After playing him, i started to like. Now my hatred bar is growing =/ Didn't like the new machanics at all !
