The crossbows are not guns because of one simple and very important fact. Guns use gunpowder, crossbows don't. End of discussion.
The crossbows aren't even unrealistically small and she isn't firing each individual crossbow at an unrealistic pace either. It's the speed that she moves that makes the fight go so damn fast. And the crossbows could have an auto tension loader that pulls the string back automatically after each shot so all she would have to do is drop a new bolt into place and she would be ready to fire again, and again, and again. She is moving at a fast enough pace that the eye really doesn't catch the movements needed to drop another bolt into the groove, ready to pierce the flesh of a demon. Putting another bolt into the crossbow could be as simple as collecting the bolt(s) from on the thighs or something.

Holy COW that's cool. I want that. I want it baaaaaaaad.
On another note I don't really care about the reloading business or the dual crossbows of death that shoot miniature jockeys carrying cheese wire between them.
I just hope there are a sizeable amount of explosions and eye candy for her.

Wizards make fireballs out of thin air, stop and slow time, shoot beam of destruction from their hands and go through material world with teleport.
Yet you wonder how demon hunter, master of SHADOW MAGIC can reload her weapons?
Well imagine:
out of air shadow becomes more solid and creates black bolts which DH shoots. isnt hard to imagine right?
She can fire molten arror that pierces stuff and leaves fire in its wake, yet you wonder how she reloads.
MAGIC, belts created by shadow magic
Thats the easiest way to explain it in some reasonable way.
The thing is not about magic. Its the device. xbows uses bolts to fire; whatever that the bolts of made of is another story. Amazon have something like magic shot, arrows created by magic. DH don't posses the skill to do so (assume). Even if she can, its shown that she takes things from demons (like bones) to craft her weapons. Multishot is using magic to split an existing arrow into 2 or more. You can't just create out of nothing.
And for the wizard/sorc.; They don't really create out of "nothing" but control the environment and energies around them, like for example air!!!!! Shadow magic are magic stolen from demons.
Please not use "magic" to bullshit anything you want to add to the game. That's what blizzard did when creating this dual xbows. Also based on your logic; why not use "magic" to create thousands bolts hitting the enemy without the xbows. Or better yet, why not use magic to create guns, cars, airplanes, and nukes out of NOTHING!. Some things aren't possible with magic, useless your god. There are logic behind magic; and they are the manipulation of things around them.
If you look at her, she keeps bolts on her leg. It's not hard to believe with her speed and mastery of the xbow, that she simply brings the xbow down to her thigh and reloads it quickly.
Sure, it seems challenging in reality, but these aren't average people. They are heros afterall.
Don't forget that they are imbued with demonic energy. So it's possible that they could move hellishly fast. It's not impractical to dual wield crossbows, just us mere mortals must hide behind some cover and reload every time we fire them.

Or it could be purely magical/demonic ammunition, that refills itself. She's supposed to dabble in dark magic, and if DH's came across something that made it so that reloading was not necessary, I'm sure they'd use it. After all, there arent bolts/arrows in D3.
Nah, don't like guns. The moment you add guns to diablo it isn't diablo anymore. It just becomes something that it isn't. It's supposed to be old-school magic and lore. Not anything modern. That's just diablo and it should stay that way. I'm glad they're not adding guns.
when you guys say using shadow/demonic magic on the ammo; it doesn't effect how you reload and fire. Only effect what happens after its been fired. For example, like todays guns... instead of using normal bullet; use incendiary rounds. Once fired, will form explosions on impact. Same thing with this. Please understand that magic follows a similar logic. Magic might turn your ammo into lightning but it doesn't change how well you can conjure/aim/fire. Unless its targeted at the user itself but this is not the case, just the ammo.
what about the amazons magic arrow ability? huh? huh? yeh.
And btw, in terms of class-specific weapons, repeater crossbows make sense? I mean... why would you give her a huge bow when that's not what's advertised when you play her character class?
I'm not saying "no bows" but dual-crossbows seem to be her thing.

As one who grew up using a bow in practical applications, I've always had a little bit of an issue with the mechanics of ALL game or movie archers. NO MECHANICAL DEVICE could ever achieve the output of the Demon Hunter's crossbows. Of course with Diablo, one must accept that the archer classes are using their magic to both create ammo and reload their weapons, so this isn't really a problem.
These are the reasons why many people get such a solid pistol vibe from her crossbows:
1) Every time the DH fires a crossbow, there is an instance of muzzle flash. Muzzle flash is the visible release of exploding gases from the barrel of a gun. It is generally quite easy to see in low light conditions.
- possible explanation - The head of her bolt is striking a piece of metal as it exits the weapon, causing a spark.
- my retort - If this were the case, the bolt would lose a great deal of it's speed, and it would be sent DRASTICALLY off course.
2) Every time the DH fires a crossbow, she experiences recoil. Recoil is the backwards force felt by the individual operating a firearm. It is caused by the explosion taking place inside the chamber.
- possible explanation - The DH is jerking her arm back as she fires because she feels that it makes her look more badass.
- my retort - Even the slightest movement at the moment of release can create a miss. Jerking the bow in the manner shown by the DH would result in her missing not only demons, but entire buildings.
Magical bows and shafts I can except; but why did we have to create someone firing a pistol, and then re-skin it?
Right on Ophion. It seem only a few that understands the logic of magic.
As for Eskanasi, we aren't saying no xbows/bows. But DUAL wield is a different story. Please grasp the concept of how things work; magic or without. It mention this before but the DH takes things from demons to craft her weapon. Also thier magic as well. It known that she can't create some magically ammo out of NOWHERE. Amazon magic shot is created from energy/mana/"magic". But only that; others requires her to imbue existing ammo to achieve a different effect like freezing arrow. Lets not continue to jump by saying "DH uses magic to summon a tomahawk missle from her xbows".
My opinion on the demon hunter is that it was a rushed thought and probably expansion class but decided to swap out another class to put in the demon hunter in its place meaning they probably didn't have it as fleshed out as the previous swapped out class. They should have just kept the pistols instead of trying to explain the xbow dual wield concept to everyone.

Indeed. I two bows and two crossbows. I enjoy them both greatly, however what he is saying is true.
In my oppinion? Blizzard build a gun user for Diablo 3, saw the community didn't like it, reskinned the guns to be 1h crossbows, and set it out anyway.
Personally, I find it hilarious that they did it. They wanted guns, and those are guns. Just waiting to hear that the bolts are held in a magazine and they are semi-automatic crossbows. Lol.
For the last time, guns = gunpowder, so therefore guns = one-handed crossbows would mean one-handed crossbows = gunpowder, which doesn't work. So, in conclusion, one-hand crossbows ARE NOT guns. Argue with that logic now, bitches!!

I'll never use them, but they are definitely not guns. They may behave like guns, but they're not. True story.

Argue against this logic, a crossbow is meant to be two-handed, the force of shooting a bolt is pretty great and if you one-hand it without any support from the second you are likely to suffer serious injury on said arm, worst case scenario breaking it or tearing it off completely, basically it's like shooting a rifle with one hand, it ain't fun.
I have fired multiple crossbows, no single handed ones as the are very rare to find, and most don't have much of a recoil. There isn't enough resistance from the bolt flying out of the groove shaft to cause such recoil.
