After level 35ish It gets very difficult to surive grifts. The thingsAnichBR suggested are good, but really you NEED that 2nd unity, even if its not the best rolled Unity.

most high ranking dh´s dont use unity cause ur ganna get 1shot anyways, so they swap unity out for soj(more dmg)
with that said, yes unity will help with survivability up to a certain point (maybe up to grift 40-43 depending on ur gear), but it is not mandatory to complete higher grifts.
What was mentioned above about removing survivability is true. Yes, it helps to get some HP to survive long enough to escape DoTs like the poison or cold elite cc affixes, but mostly you survive by keeping your distance. try not to use anything with companion damage, they aren't worth boosting. you don't need to boost your evasive fire dmg on your belt as you only use it to generate hatred. hellfire amulet would be great addition and it doesn't have to be the best to be worth using as long as it's good a good passive, socket, and maybe crit dmg(you can easily make up for elemental and CC in other slots). If you are having a tough time, try using smoke screen over vault.
The new COE ring way outperforms either unity or SoJ. But you have to get used to it. You will die a lot compared to Unity. But a well rolled COE will take minutes off your minion clears. After that it's all RNG in getting an RG that isn't impossible to kill in the remaining time.
Anarch's and Winged Assassins are my worst in gr40+ , get 1 shot and they sometimes charge off screen. what do you guys do? skip the GR or do you patiently try to kill them off screen before they do ? another thing is Etheron rift guardian , noticed that if the templar is alive, he would tank him and i would position my self just around the corner to have a charge free environment. in this case, think templar relic immune to damage is key for rifts like this.

Hey guys
I am getting fustrated as I keep trying to break my personal record on GRs but I just cannot seem to get past 40
I have been dying a fair bit by getting one shot by mobs that charge or leap at you
I am using templar but I only have 1 unity so I cannot use double unity yet as I only found one after many many hours
Maybe I am just not doing or playing it right but if anyone can see any red flags on my build or gear please let me know

here are some changes i would try:
*craft a ancient arcane barb with %dmg dex RCR (crossbows hits harder)
*hellfire amulet(BiS)
*roll vit on ur belt, evasive fire is used just to regen hatred
*try to get new shoulder, that companion dmg is kinda a wasted stat
*try farming for helm with CC, CA dmg, dex, socket

I do have an Arcane barb but its only 2800dps - Where as with 10% on that it would be 3080dps - my bow is 3300dps - Still worth the dps downgrade?

One thing i notice is he hatred is never low and I am always hatred starved
bows show higher dps because of their attack speed, its worth using crossbow because they hit harder (compare dmg range on bow and xbow)
with xbow u will attack slower and hit harder (u get more out of the hatred u spend)
