I've recently completed the full Roland's set and want to try and make it work in facerolling t6 (not really interested in pushing higher grfits using this set). At the moment I can clear t5 pretty reliably, but am running into damage and survivability problems in t6. Can clear it, but in no way efficiently.
I realise I need a SoJ, as well as lv 25+ gems (planning on using BotP, Gogok and Pain enhancer, I don't think this build procs BotT?) It would also be good to have a better weapon, either Heart Slaughter or Furnace. Anything else glaringly obvious that I can improve?
(also as a side note, I don't personally find the 6 piece worth using, all it really does it cause wrath issues for me!)
I've been experimenting quite a bit with the Roland's set as well. Its damage can be quite high, but it's really difficult to strike a balance between DPS and survivability.
@Mienta: can you post your exact build? Also not quite following your argument about the 5 piece Akkhan, which of course is not possible with a Roland's set... don't understand :-)
There are definitely two different "main builds" with Shield Bash or Sweep Attack. Completely different gearing route, obviously, since Shield Bash focuses around Piro Marella whereas Sweep Attack is more about utilizing the Golden Flense. Unfortunately, I didn't save the builds that I tried (kinda stupid), but one thing that works really well in combination with Roland's set is Angel Hair Braid to have some nice Punish damage (also consider Depth Diggers then). As for the weapon: with full Roland's set and all attack speed procs (Pain Enhancer, Gogok) I sometimes went up to crazy APS (I think I even had 6 APS for a moment), and then using Punish (decent proc rate) using this weapon was a lot of fun: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/stalgards-decimator
Would love to hear other insight... probably won't have time to do any more Roland's theorycrafting in the next few days, but I think this set can be quite awesome. My goal is to create a Roland's spec that is viable in T6 speed runs where survivability is not really an issue but the DPS and crazy attack speed might be a good alternative to the Stampede build.
I've tried so many Rolands builds I've lost count. Although I've still not found one that can compete with certain akkhan builds there are a few builds out there that can definitely faceroll T6. As was mentioned earlier Rolands set with bowmen can be good, I can do 6 min solo clears with a setup like that, I wrote a build guide but everyone seems to hate it because it got downvoted to 0 lol. Fire sweep is decent with cindercoat and maximus but was never as fast as phys/sweep/bowmen for me. Shield bash with depth diggers and angel hair braid is ok, but I found in groups there was really no need for the generator and solo it ran very slowly for me. My current favorite Rolands build is Mannercookies fire bash build, check his twitch highlights or youtube, it should be there. If you decide to mess around and come up with something new I suggest that to overcome the inherent squishiness of Rolands set that you run around 30ish CDR and then equip 2 of the 4 following skills: laws of justice/immovable object, ironskin/steelskin, champion/prophet, consecrate. My personal preference is immovable object with either consecrate or ironskin. I also recommend playing around with adding in bowmen via eternal union and/or unrelenting phalanx in some builds, more so with sweep attack since dropping the piro mirella in bash builds is pretty iffy.
Hi I'm a little late to the party here. However, I have a strong passion for the Roland's set so I'll post my gear. I'm able to clear T6 with ease in about 5-6 minutes. Regarding grifts, I am able to clear past grift 32 with relatively no problems. I usually need to switch out my amulet for immunity at this point though. Anyway, here's my Roland's crusader:

Can anyone who has t6 experience with this set possibly provide some insight into my character to see what I can improve: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Reclaim-6743/hero/52743925
