I understand the change will not really have an impact on us, they boost 2H weapons by 23-26% and reduce de damage we do with heavenly strength by 20%. But that got me wondering, and there may be some theorycrafter out here that could come with something up:
What if we drop the shield, and trade Heavenly Strength for an other passive ? Could we see any 2H - shieldless build ? Or do we lose too much without a shield?
I don't think Blizzard will let that happen, but with the current proposed change I could see someone coming up with something clever.
The stats gained from the shield about equals out the 20% reduction from Heavenly strength. If you get something like Hellskull with its +10% dmg with a 2h equipped then youll definately be doing much more damage than Just 2h. Also without a shield you lose access to block and any mechanics that come with it as well as all the shield based skills.

What are your thoughts ? Any build idea ?
This 20% damage reduction comes from 2handers up. They got more damage now, so you will get even more damage then now from a good rolled 2hander. I dunno how you see crusader without shield.
Well i still think they screwed crusaders, i hope they change the "20% damage reduction" abit lets say 15% instead
Or why not just change the whole "heavenly strenght" to something else then?
And let ous also have the full buff from the 2h´s?
As other classes have a huge buff using 2h this patch. (seen some monk saying hes doing 100m hits with face palm)..
How is an overall 3-6% increase screwing Crusaders? Haven't there been enough major Crusader buffs already? It's not like Crusaders are in a bad spot on live or PTR right now.
What I would really like to see is the -20% damage debuff only applying when you actually have a 2h weapon equiped. Especially if u craft a really good hellfire amulet with the passive but for most of the time use 1h weapons.
Why would you use a passive that allows you to have a 2H and a shield if you're not going to use a 2H....?
If you get a HF with it as a roll, ditch it. Gay, yes, but such is the burden.
Well f.e. The Furnace for rift bosses.
Doesn't have to be a burden. I'm sure it's something they can check with an if-statement in the code.
maybe i dont get it, but this proposal doesnt make any damn sense for me ... its the philosophy: if you want to wear a 2h with a shield, you take this passive and dont loose any dmg (instead receive 3-6% unlike Flac666 said it to be a nerf).
and thus, its clearly that if u get a HF amu with this passive, u better make another one, that fits your 1hander-build and keep the other for 2hander builds. its just that simple
It may depend on other people's gear level, but when I loaded my account to the PTR I saw a increase in damage, even with the 20% damage reduction. It wasn't ground breaking crusaders are OP destroy everything you look at. A decent amount of a increase.
I'll log on later and take screen shots or current live, and compare to PTR
With the latest patch to PTR, 2 handed crusaders may even see a comeback with 2.1.
This is just theory craft, with the changes to Leoric's Crown ( increasing the bonus to socketed gem 75-100% [ 12.5 x 2 = 25% CDR ] ), Vigilante belt ( legendary affix CDR )
Crusader's should be able to drop CDR from their 2 hander and from another gear slot, we will say amulet.
Allowing weapon % affix to weapon, and adding damage affix to amulet.
With the changes crusaders should be able to maintain perma champion and see a boost to damage.
Heavenly Strength / Fervor are Crusader's answer to Dual wielding. Currently on live 2H weapons are nearly useless for non-crusaders because the CHD on an off hand far outweighs the ~20% greater base damage on 2H weapons. These passives help a Crusader reach DPS values comparable to Dual Wield or Source users.
On 2.1 PTR the 2H weapons have a roughly 50% base damage increase over 1H, making the DPS potential of the two much closer (the 2H weapons aren't significantly higher potential DPS simply better damage per hit and that's useful mostly for trash). Crusaders aren't being shafted by the HS change mostly because it is already comparable (actually better than) with an offensive offhand and these changes would simply push it into ridiculous mandatory range without the damage penalty.
However if you already have significant additive +%damage sources you will see a potentially large DPS gain because the penalty as an additive penalty.
That being said with these changes if no-shield is viable for other classes it will be viable for crusader (give or take).
"We're planning on expanding the level range for the retroactive damage buff to 2-handed weapons, so that it will include item levels 10-70 in patch 2.1. One of the benefits of this change is that it should help lower level Crusaders feel like Heavenly Strength is still a good choice. The percent of increased damage will still be based on the weapon speed, and not based on item level. So, lower level items will receive the same base percent damage increase as their higher level counterparts.
Additionally, we're adjusting the amount of increased damage from 23-26% to 26-30%"

I saw a increase to my holy shotgun build, I average out in the low twenties on PTR. My lowest on live is roughly 18ish
Baleful I say is quite amazing on PTR. I only played for like 15 minutes and the avatars are like a mad army now.
I don't have the craziest gear. Decent end game, so most crusaders should not worry about the 20% reduction on the new PTR passive.

got 21k DPS increase on PTR.
check my crus if you want to =)

or are they going to increase my FotF weapon damage?
