So I got these two items and they're fairly decent versions. It seems like a completely OP combination in theory, but I find the application to be slightly underwhelming. Has anyone else had success with this build?
I think everyone has success with the build lol. You are talkingabout one of the staples of the Crusader, use with Shattered Shield and watch the bouncing begin.

Obviously most builds have an up side and down side. The fact you thought it was OP shows you lack this understanding. The downside is single target on this combo. It can be overcome to a degree by stacking a specific Elemental type damage modifier (i.e. Holy) and/or boots & helm with Blessed Shield damage +15%. Drop the shield and go with one that supports a more single-target focused attack, like a Eberli Charo and that helps too.
I've looted my Gyrfalcon's Foot about 3 days ago (running withJekangboard for over 3 weeks).
After 2 days of testing, I must say that I'm a little disappointed. Maybe that's because the roll was pretty low (2k dps). I'm much faster with runningJekangboard + 2h than "theoretically OPGyrfalcon's Foot +Jekangboard combo".
The visual is nice, shields playing pinball with every mob is absolutely awsome, but in the end You can kill 'em with one Blessed Shield for 20kk than 5x 6-7 kk.
All above based on experience with holy + shattered rune.
Gryfalcon's Foote is not so strong that you can make do with a crappily rolled one, not if you have a very good 2-hander sitting in your stash instead.
As for Jekangboard, I, personally, have not really become convinced of it being genuinely that strong. Yeah, it's super duper OP when you have a horde pack all crammed up in your face, but over half the time, let's face it: your blessed shield only HAS about 4 targets to hit in immediate range Most elite packs are 1-4 mobs or so, and if they're a ranged pack of any sort, they're probably not grouped up enough for the shield to bounce between all of them, so you only occasionally get used out of the extra shields from Jekang bouncing around.
Frankly, a very strong block shield that has some other powerful proc - such as, say Defender of Westmarch, or Coven's or Stormshield for tankyness - just feels much stronger to me.
I've switched to combust and made primarily a fire build as I don't yet have a good enough weapon for a straight fire build. Combust does well for single targets as the separate triggered explosion makes it close to double damage on some of the hits and ricochets. And this is with a badly rolled Gyrfalcon (1900ish DPS).
My Gyrfalcon's is 2.4k dps, so I suppose that's a really good drop?
Not to de-rail a topic, but that would be a high-end roll on a 1h, depending what your other rolls look like! I used Gyrfalcon's Foote (around 2.1k I think dps) and a Jekangbord that hit 6 additional targets (highest I've seen) up to Torment 3 and did very well with it. I've recently switched to a 2H build after finding a Maximus and Fate of the Fell to try other builds that seem to be performing well to my experience. An alternative to the Gyrfalcon's would probably be a high-rolled Skycutter, because you can get 20% Holy Damage Bonus from it if you still want to go this route.
Some people forget that now with Fervor this build probably got a little more of a buff and with the recent changes to Shattering Throw. Your initial shields do a little more damage up-front from what they used to, while your split shields do a bit less (to be honest, I hardly noticed any difference). The part to note is that, the faster you're throwing out shields, the higher your effective dps is as long as you have targets to ricochet from.
Well that's good to know. Unfortunately my Gyrfalcon's is physical damage instead of holy, but I suppose that's not a train smash.
I've been taking fervor actually, which is a nice skill.
Quick question: Does blessed shield take damage from the base stats of your shield or does it actually take the current overall block chance with buffs?
Man I wish blizz would update their tooltips on their skill calc already. Anyway your holy cause will heal you enough to stay alive, if you have to put some paragon on life on hit. Works up to t4 for sure. The advantage you gain to using jenka is that you don't need to have an extra skill devoted to wrath or a passive devoted only to defense. I used blessed ground fires of heaven instead of phalanx for the single target due to extra fire dmg procs on firestarter, however you could go phalanx bowmen for extra single target dmg instead. Falling sword with flurry hits pretty hard now if your packing holy dmg. Fervor also gives you 15 percent CDR which is huge if your using even more cooldowns since you don't have to use a primary generator. It's all about give and take. I think that as said a shitty rolled glyph will still be worse than a very good 2h....but a mediocre glyph will be better than a good 2h imo.
I'm using the Gryf/Jek combo (~2200dps version, 4rico shield) with a pure fire build (all fire items sans helm + aug) thinking about swapping to holy once I have 6pc, but so far holy has looked really underwhelming compared to combust's aoe. I clear T4 rifts in around 10-15 minutes, T5-6 are doable but in my gear very slow and too risky to bother with (with an andarials and a cindercoat without int on it I could probably do 5 okay.)
I've tried it with an average Maximus and it felt about the same in overall damage, but having to be careful with positioning and wrath compared to flinging a hundred billion burning shields isn't really my style. Also you can play pure range if it gets hairy since you have unlimited shields.
Heaven's Fury is for holy cause healing and because I still can't find anything better for additional single target damage that doesn't make me stop flinging shields.
The weapon and shield is just the weapon requirement of the "set" - you still need to gear yourself appropriately to do good damage.
Its like flipping a switch between tank to dps then clicking the tickbox that says Ranged. If your damage is low is because your gear and skill choices arent tuned correctly.
The advantage is straight up simple, you no longer need Wrath. Left Click throw Pinball Shield and Right Click summon 4 archers. Your 4 buttons is just there as dps cooldowns, extra crit damage, increased attack speed, orbital laser strike to speed up that boss kill.
Single target got buffed significantly last patch is by far not a problem anymore.
I don't have them but from reading it my impression was that you actually have to spend some resource to get the effect. I'd be interested to know if that's not the case.
Be better off going SoJ or Unity and a ring of granduer once you are able to get them. The ring of grandeur can make some great sets like aug, or captains get the 3 piece bonus for only 2 pieces which can be really powerful. SoJ provides elemental boost of your choice which is awesome or unity if you get 2 of them can increase your survival by a huge amount at higher torment levels (one on follower with can not die relic, one on you). Either way the benefits would outweigh the restraint focus combo I would think.

It can bounce multiple times between 2 targets. 9 Blessed Shield impacts spread over 2 targets (bonus points if its Combust and in range of AoE) does massive damage. Of course, genuine "single" target its awful But you don't need 9 targets to get the max number of bounces out
Not a big issue, your spells are still doing Holy-damage.
It "becomes" a problem when you are out of wrath and you start auto-attacking.
Blessed Shield uses your total block-chance, btw.
ive said it before. but people tend to no actually read what they are surpposed to. but it only benefits from your shields block chance not ur entire block chance. and the spell clearly states that aswell.
This is how the spell is suppose to work however it has been proven that this is not actually true. There is a lot of videos showing the testing of this however, if you wish to test it yourself try it without the 15 percent block passive and any other block gear, then equip some block gear and that passive and you will see a boost in dmg. It's not huge but it is there. The tooltip is wrong, I'm not sure if it's intended or not but that's the way it is at the moment.

I have a great respect for your reading-skills.
In this case however 'actual testing' >>> reading.
Nevertheless this only works on the initial hit, the Shattered Shield for example does 170% weapon damage and adds nothing for your blockchance.

Are you absolutely positive about this? Because so often I've seen it bounce just a twice or so and then immediately return to me when there aren't enough targets in range.
I have often seen it bounce a couple of times between two targets.
Needless to say I ADORE bosses that spawn some trash, especially if the trash is tough.
