Crusader Help and Critique thread. - Post Gear/Build queries here.

  • #1
There has been quite a large influx recently of crusaders asking for help with builds, items and critiquing their play styles so any new posts on the topic will be automatically merged here. easier to have all the gear related questions in one thread to reference back to.

Few pieces i'd recommend you focus on

Ring - Since your using quite a few different sets a royal ring of grandeur would be amazing for you build, 3 set Aughilds and Ashearas will help you be tanky enough to drop your guardian set.

Since the ring is quite hard to get i'd say your easiest upgrade that would make a huge impact is bracers. switching from guardians to Ashearas will net you a whopping 15% damage to elite and 15% reduced damage + you're missing 15-20% elemental damage there. That would be an easy change that would give you a huge increase to damage.

Neck is another focus, yours is nice for 3 stats but finding one with av damage or 15% lightning in addition to those stats can really help. I myself have had pretty bad luck with necks so i can understand how hard it can be to find one even better then the one you are currently using.

Switching from hold your ground to finery will also give a nice boost on damage if your finding it easy to survive.

I just hit 70 with this guy a couple nights ago, and I got lucky with a couple drops (blade of prophecy and jekangbord). I'm looking for a holy % cdr /cc ammy but haven't had any luck at Kadala. The play style still feels really clunky which I assume is just lack of cdr. Any advice on which way I should be going, or what I'm missing?

Waiting on the last piece of Akkhan's. I tear through T4 with ease while T5 is doable but slow. Any suggestions would be more than welcome as I try and make T5 more efficient. Cuurently I am gambling shields for Jekanbord as I'd like to try out the Bs spec, occasionally I do 2-H for a chance at a holy BoP.

I think you could stand to get rid of your belt and either use a harringtons or something more offensive. You have a ton of health and honestly at lower torments it's really not needed. Granted you're lacking Vit on your gloves your helm makes up for it. Otherwise there are no changes you can really make till your next piece of akkan. When I got my 6 set, everything changed man. It's a completely different ballgame my friend!

I havent found any of the Akkhan set pieces yet, but have a blackthorne belt and boots in bag, also i wonder if there is any set gear i should craft to get into higher torments?

I would love some feedback so i could transcend into tier 4 and so on!

    Thank you so much!

Just got a justinian's mercy and am having fun trying out a hammer spec that doesn't drive me crazy since the hammers follow me. Has anyone else tried this out? I was wondering if the using a ruby might be better than an emerald in this weapon? I know it sounds crazy but the hammers hit often and quick and the weapon hits quick being a 1h, I wonder if the upgraded avg dmg would be better than the crit dmg. What do you all think? Probably not but I'm curious and am debating if it's worth trying to develop the ruby for.

Edit: I was stacking holy dmg for a holy build before this so I have a lot of plus holy gear as such I was doing limitless hammers with provoke electrify its a lot of random numbers popping up very quicky for a crusader.

Wearing pretty much the best gear I have. Have a few other items including a Votiya's, Kassar's, and a Final Witness.

Needing some help with build plus advice on what to spend my shards on. T1 is on farm, T2 can be a struggle. Any help would be appreciated!

A Blessed Shield build will be very clunky without one of the following:
    a) 6pc Akkhan's set
    b) Gyrfalcon's Foote
    c) A weapon with wrath regen and a shield with wrath regen
Honestly, with your gear, I would rather not go for CDR at all, but instead for defensive and offensive stats that directly boost your damage. That way you'll be able to progress to higher torment difficulties quicker and have more oomph in your shields. I'd also try to find a crusader weapon with wrath regen.

Craft Asheara's gloves, Aughild's chest and bracers and equip the Blackthorne's boots and belt (I'm assuming they rolled decent). This way you will get the 3pc bonuses of all the sets, instead of having to wear legendaries without any bonuses. :)

Use a 2-hander, and no, a ruby will almost never be better than a green gem (can't for the life of me remember the name lol). I would absolutely encourage you to run a lightning hammer build if you're playing hammers, and 2-handers are the way to go by far right now for hammer builds.

If you're running a lightning-based build without 6pc Akkhan's, hammers are the way to go.
Firstly, you want to gem your gear properly. I generally tend to prefer rubies. Then some reforging. Reforge falling sword damage on your shoulders to allres. Reforge the blessed shield damage on your helm to blessed hammer damage. Reforge the life on hit on your legs to 2 sockets. Reforge the fist of the heavens damage on your shield to blessed hammer damage. Reforge the shield bash damage on your boots to blessed hammer damage.

Craft Aughild's helm, shoulders and chest. :) Reroll the holy damage on your bracers to lightning damage. I would try to get rings that have vitality / allres on them instead of attack speed, that should help with survivability. Reroll the justice damage on your belt to allres. Also try to get gloves with the attack speed replaced with vitality / allres.

Looking for input on gear upgrades, reforging etc.

Currently steamrolling T2, T3 is doable, but slow.....

1.) You have 6 sockets in your gear which are equal to 420 strength with the finery passive. I would suggest that you use the Holy Cause instaed since this passive gives your weapon +10% damage. The DPS gain with a holy weapon and this passive should be higher than the DPS from finery.

2.) As you play with two(idk if Justice with this rune is lightning then three[can't check right now]) I would recommend stacking lightning damage. Try to get lightning damage on your bracers instead of the vita(even if you loose toughness) and on your amu instead of the min-max-damage. With legendarys you get up to 40% lightning damage this way(30% with rares) which will result in a huge boost in eDPS. I would recommend you to try some Reapers Wraps, as they replenish your main resource, which allows you more spamming.

3.) Try to drop one Asheara's piece for a second blackthornes. The elite damage dealt, as well as less taken is a huge boost to survival and damage.

4.) You are using a 2-hander. Your max movement speed is 10%. Use paragon points to get there and reforge your movementspeed on boots for blessed hammer damage. Also try to get blessed hammer damage on Your helm(craft some Aughilds and aim for sth like Strength, Vita/AllRes, Crit , BlessedHammer damage.)

5.) On your gloves I personally would change IAS for CC.

6.) On your secondary ring I would change IAS to CHD.

7.) Maybe you could aim for a thundergod's vigor for some lightning damage % on your belt. But I personally would aim for a good string of ears as the 30%(max roll) melee damage reduction are fukn OP.

Up for discussion of my advises, I like to crunsh numbers :P

I'm usually the guy giving people advice about Blessed Shield builds. But reading this thread sparked my curiosity about what other who run a similar build think of how I'm doing it. Here's my armory:

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/D3C1MAT10N-1834/hero/43504807

I've been trying to get rid of some of the attack speed that I have, as it's really not important to this type of build. I've been thinking lately about forging it into cooldown reduction so that once I get 6pc Akkhan's (currently I have 3, 4 w/RROG) I can keep Akarat's Champion up most of the time. Also considering dropping the socket in my helm because I have almost 500k life. I can steamroll T3, comfortably do T4, and T5 if I play well and am careful.

Really hoping to get a Helm of Rule plan soon, and some luck with a better roll on my RROG (have one in bags with less than stellar rolls)

    Any thoughts?
  • #17
First I wouldn't recommend a Helm of Rule. BlockChance is one of the weakest stats for a Blessed Shield build, as only the first shield gains profit from BlockChance. For more about stacking BlockChance see here : http://www.diablofans.com/forums/diablo-iii-class-forums/crusader-the-church-of-zakarum/86698-the-house-of-flying-shields-support-hybrid-top-end?comment=27

Your Andarieal has pretty nice rolls. As you are aiming for a high CDR build to have almost perma Akarat's Champ I wouldn't suggest dropping the socket. Holy damage is very strong with this build and the socket will give you the ability to get 12,5% CDR which is the highest CDR part you can get (except 6pc Akkhans) in one part. Trying to get Akarat's to near perma a socket in your head can and will be very important and will free stats on other gear parts(eg ring/Amu). Idk if your weapon is already rerolled(would be insane if not). If not wait till patch and then try to get a high Holy Damage roll on it. Use Holy Cause and gain a big DPs boost and a nice healing boost(instead of hold your ground).

Nothing else that comes to my mind so far. Nice gear and give me dat gaunlets :P last piece missing for my 6pc XD

Nice to have a thread where we can brainstorm about each others specs and gear.

    This is me.http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Stuyf-2717/hero/39008579

I'm currently able to steamroll T1 and T2 and actually T3 also goes without any troubles. T4 is doable however very slowly and I'd like to progress into T4 and ofc eventually T5 and T6. Obviously I'm looking for the Akkhan set items as well as a new belt (as this is still lvl 66 item). I've had terrible luck regarding weapons as I've never found a BoP, FoTF, Mortal Drama nothing which would be a build-changer.

I've been playing the lightning-hammer-spec by Kapsu for quite awhile and no offense as I love the build and the work Kapsu has put in for us Crusaders but I'm ready for something else.

Curious to see what you guys have in the advice department.

    Cheers,

    Kentos

Trying to use MannerCookie's T4-T6 Condemn build...

Would like some advice on gearing if possible.

I pick up lots of items I think are good but then salvage them because I don't know if they're worth using.

Well for a mannercookie condem build you actually should use a BOP. Idk if you have one but you have a FOTF. With this weapon you can build an awesome T6 build too if not even a better one since you can choose the abitilties in a way that you have no need for melee range.

I don't think you have an Akkhan's 6pc but aim for it. It helps alot getting to T6.

As you are using Judgement Resolve you shouldn't stack any crit over 20%. Aim for CDR/CHD/SkillDmg/Elemental Dmg.

You could use something like this. But to use this build you actually need a Jekangbord (legendary shield). If you don't feel right with Provoke Charged Up(I would prefer it ) you could also go with Law of Valor: Critical. Reducing the cooldown of Akarat's Champion is essential as it's a giant burst cooldown. If you like this build i described ask me for more information. But since I know it's not the mannercookie build I don't want to write everything down for nothing :)
