It scales with your character sheet block chance and goes to 100%
they are buffed by temporary bonuses and passives as well ie Punish, Provoke: Hit Me, Hold your ground, and Towering shield
Remember any block chance on gear is worth 250% Blessed Shield Damage. So take 16% from a Justice Lantern for example
16X2.5=40
That's right an additional 40% damage added to Blessed Shield.
the tooltip is very misleading for Blessed Shield and Shield Bash they read "plus x% of shield Block Chance" they key thing to notice in the grammar they used was the caps in "Block Chance". Which when you look at the detailed stats sheet is "Block Chance" but shields read "x% Chance to Block"
really its terrible grammar and they need to remove the world shield from the tooltips
You guys sure about this ? A friend of mine use a blessed shield build and he said that the dmg did not go up while using punish and the passives. Only when he got a shield with higher block.
It is confirmed that +Block % on your character sheet increases your DPS. I have personally tested this with my InfernoShield build and removing the passives, I lost quite a bit of DPS. I did some rough math and my Blessed Shield is hitting for around 520% weapon damage, with my added block chance (depending on which Shield i'm using)
Nice to know Hobo, Do you know if Shield Bash works the same way? I've done some rough testing and it seems to help, but I've not got any concrete math on the subject.
Big thing to note - If you're using the Shattering Throw rune (which is the best DPS rune by far for Shattering Throw - note that the tooltip is bugged atm, it's 300%+ weapon damage per shard, not 50%), the shards *do not* benefit from increased block chance... So the overall damage increase from block chance, while somewhat helpful, is a very, very, very minor increase in overall damage per throw. I wouldn't focus on it too much. Using a Justice Lantern purely for damage purposes (from block), for instance, loses you a LOT of damage over using a ring with crit chance/crit damage/+damage/str (aspd is marginally helpful for wrath generation, but it's minor if you use Provoke for your generation).
This is from my personal experience with a Jekangbord build, testing with and without Justice Lantern, Punish, Provoke (with Hit Me rune), and Hold your Ground.
EDIT: Obviously block chance on your shield is important - but if you're using a Jekangbord, the passive outweighs (by far) even a semi-crappy block chance roll on it.
I have found justice lantern with 16% block chance, crafted helm of rule with an additional 11% block chance. Haven't found a crusader shield with block chance. Its good to know that block chance increases dps with shield bash and blessed shield and punish, because it gives the crusader more a melee feel then an casters feel.
However i am wondering which are u guys talking about here?
one odd thing I find is that if I equipe justice Lantern 16% block, I lose around 90k paper dps crit chance, and crit dmg >.< but I gain stre quite alot still my shields crit more than 2 milion less, how the hell is this possible? I thought 16% block was like 40% dmg increase on shield dmg. this worry me alot since I wanted to craft the helm of rule aswell:/
40% weapon damage, not 40% total damage.
That's only about an 8 - 12% increase in overall Blessed Shield damage (and only for part of the damage). You'd have to lose less than 10% paper DPS to make it worthwhile, and that's only if Blessed Shield is your main source of damage. If you spam other abilities (Phalanx, Bombardment, Condemn, etc), the swap won't be worthwhile.

does blessed shield gain from your total block value so a max of 75% wich you can get using justice lantern and helm of rule etc.
or does it only benefit from the Shield's blockchance and NOT your total blockchance?
i hope someone can help me out on this as it determines the items to use ALLOT!
thanks!

Gonna look into it myself later today aswell
To determine damage increaes from block items its 2.5XBlock%
