All classes with the exception of the Barbarian have class specific weapons. Barbarian Mighty Weapons don’t look or feel mighty, any chance of changing that?
To Travis Days credit, he gave an honest response which was.......... That’s a good questions and your right, MWs aren’t that awesome, my bad, we will keep working on that and we dropped the ball.
To assist the dev team Ive compiled a couple of Pie charts and information comparing our current use of 2 handers with those of the Crusader. Ive made some observations and recommendations, some of which I would never have considered until I completed this quick analysis.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total 2 hander Crusader Weapons (CW) currently in use total 39.85%
Fate of the Fell (16.75%) and Blade of Prophecy (12.30%) account for a total of 29.5% of 2 handers used by Crusaders.
Of the 7 CWs available, six are in use (however 4 are below the Maximus and Furnace)
Crusader Weapons are spread across 3 categories. The development of a Crusader Weapon class (much like Mighty Weapons for barbs) would streamline the classes ability to reference its own weapons.
The CW not in use is listed in the diagram (link above)
Comparatively speaking, the Crusader has the same amount of CWs in game as barbarian MWs. Two of which are in higher use than the Maximus and Furnace.
This contrast highlights that good game design does exist for at least two CWs in comparison to the Barbarian class which relies on non MWs.
The charts show that MWs need to be buffed and redesigned to out compete the Furnace and Maximus. The Crusader chart demonstrates that this can be done. After re-reading many suggestions posted by myself and several others on the barb forums, I now believe we should be aiming higher and take the Crusader stats as something to aim for.
Consequently, here are my thoughts on 2 hander MW development.
Maximus/Furnace and Raekers.
The direct competitors analysis can be expanded from both the Maximus/Furnace to incorporate the build to which they are most often used with for barbs. Which is the Raekers/VW charge barb.
A MW if developed to take the place of these top two weapons would have to incorporate the strengths of Raekers/Max/Furnace and expand upon the weaknesses of the set (single target DPS) in order to develop a MW which would be tempting for players to use.
Therefore the MW would have to provide a DPS boost for both FC and single target DPS which rivals the current most popular single target DPS dealer for this build (ancients and frenzy).
One recommendation is to develop a Mace which is designated as part of the FC set (by taking an existing piece out) and incorporates the VW FC bonus. Thus removing the VW as a separate bonus and frees up a slot on the Raekers set which may be used for Depth Diggers or Tasker and Theo’s. A further single target DPS boost affix should also be incorporated to boost either a spender/generator or pet build.
Option 1 (VW affix moved to Mace)
Mace with 30-35% FC bonus and your ancients attack speed is increased by 100%, or
Mace with 30-35% FC bonus and your spender/generators DPS is increased by 50%.
Option 2 (VW stay as is)
Mace with 45-50% FC bonus and your ancients attack speed is increased by 100%, or
Mace with 45-50% FC bonus and your spender/generators DPS is increased by 50%.
Immortal King Boulder Breaker
This is the most popular 2 hander MW, however I have yet to see one in use on its own as I believe its popularity is due to the 4 piece bonus of permanent ancients (3 after RORG). This enables permanent ancients to be used in conjunction with the Might of the Earth Set. Thus, the hybrid of permanent ancients and a no spender leapquake build is responsible for the prominent use of this MW.
This item should be reviewed as part of the IK set revamp announced at Blizzcon 2014.
Fury of the Vanished Peak
Most commonly used with spender EQ build both fire and cold. Although the item is the most popular 2 hander MW currently in use after the IKBB, its SS bonus still lacks in comparison to the Furnace and Maximus. A bonus of 25-30% in addition to another possible 30% (helm and boots) results in a possible maximum boost of 60% SS bonus. In comparison to a furnace, its possible to stack 80% SS bonus (obviously 50% effects elites only) of which, the elite bonus of 50% applies to the EQ aspect of the build which means the furnace out performs the FOTVP in both SS and EQs.
Therefore, it is recommended the SS bonus be increased to compete with that of the furnace, ie SS up from 25%-30% to 45-50% allowing at least half of the build (SS not EQ) to be on equal footing with the Furnace.
Other MW Recommendations
All other MW will need considerable rework to be competitive with the Maximus and Furnace.
There is no 2 hander MW for the Hammer of the Ancients, the other hardest hitting Barbarian Spender attack. In order for a MW to rival the Furnace, consideration should be given to at least two affixes which promote devastation, ie.
Mace with 45-50% HOTA bonus and 30-40% chance of Overpower to be triggered per cast. CDR does not apply to this affix.
Therefore a build can utilise HOTA with 80% DPS boost (640% weapon damage if fire) and every third cast an extra 760% (if using Revel fire rune).
I sincerely hope this information has been of assistance to the Devs by both demonstrating we, the dedicated barbs want to help you the Devs to make Mighty Weapons Mighty again.
Travis Day stated he has dropped the ball when it comes to MWs. Well if you the Devs are willing to pick it up again, we are willing to help where we can.
Perhaps a good start would be to develop, or redevelop an existing 2 hander MW in time for the 2.1.2 PTR.

I personally tried running with the Bastion's revered for a while and i gotta say that it's quite awesome. In between Raekor charges you can put in a few frenzy hits everytime, keeping the 10 stacks of frenzy - maniac which gives you a lot of attack speed and damage but i felt like it doesn't equate to the bonus of a furnace... 50% more damage to elites is just overpowered in relation to every other 2 hander in the game. I think that they should not only fix 2h mighty weapons and add new ones, they should also make the weapon master passive bonus to 2h mw better.
I tried to utitlize the fury of the vanished peak but with no success... It has a good bonus (rcr + dmg) but the skill itself is just lackluster. Maybe they should make gloves for barb that make seismic slam to be cast all around you in a circle. Could be nice but tbh that reminds me of something i saw on POE at some point in a stream.
Madwac's sorrow is absolutely useless... I mean what did they think? Stun enemies the first time you hit them? Yeepeey!
I like your idea for a 2h mw for a hota build that has a chance to cast overpower but i still don't see how HOTA will ever become useful again. Maybe only on non-GR or if they fix melee specs in GR to be actually viable.
The problem you have comparing barbs and saders is that one has powerful set bonuses, as in build changing (barb) and the crusader sets are just there to buff your build that evolves around your weapon+shield, or just one of them. Either way, to flip this around, your only buff as a barb that makes sense is to make your weapons offer something along the lines of the sader set bonuses, either buff the damage of your set resulting build or provide some much needed defensive stats especially in case of two handers.
My guess is that they looked at the possible good builds, and they decided the sets are enough for the barb, as they are for the other classes, at least when it comes to combining them with already nice legendaries.
That's why your comparisons, are in my opinion irrelevant. Just because sader weapons are cool, doesn't mean their sets doesn't suck!
I was looking in the ladderboards, and most of them are barbs. So if you somehow think they are too weak compared to the 'mighty' saders (class that has just one player in the top ones), you will be surprised to find out that most likely the sea of barbs and m6's will not only NOT be improved but might either get downgraded or stay the same, while the other classes get some love. Although the new WW combo presented at BlizzCon seems quite good.
Problem wasnt restricted to imageshack, it was with youtube as well.
There is no problem comparing barb to Sader, the same data results were coming up for each class, ie, class weapons are preferred over generaic weapons such as the Furnace and Maximus. That was the only point of the comparison. The devs have enabled this through three way synergy. They have started to do this with the FOTVP by stacking two stats on one stick. So why did they stop there. As I mentioned earlier on. Johnny Ebert stated they dropped the ball, so how about they pick it up again.
You can consider my comparisons irrelevant all you want. It just makes you ignorant to the problems at hand. The stats do the talking, for several reasons, we prefer not to use our own weapons, unlike all other classes. This needs to be addressed.
And I dont care about ladder boards and have never said that the class is weak. Thats irrelevant when it comes to what 2 handers we are using in comparison to other classes. This game is about gear and loot, it always was even before the addition of ladderboards.
So simply put, how about the Devs introduce Mighty Weapons worth finding and using, they have done this for all other classes.

Thanks mate,
Tried several things and just couldnt work out why they werent working. Especially as the same links work fine in the D3 Barb forum.
Yup, you hit the problem on the head in your last point. As it currently stands, some of our attacks (especially HOTA) just arent worth using ATM. Hence my analogy against their competition, ie Maximus and Furnace. Other classes are picking their weapons over these two, so we need to do the same if we want MWs to get pieces of their statistical pie.
Id actually like to see Bastions get a FC bonus of 45-50% on top of the frenzy bonus. This would make it well suited as a Raekers VC Might Weapon and a serious contender to the Furnace.
Id actually like to see Bastions get a FC bonus of 45-50% on top of the frenzy bonus. This would make it well suited as a Raekers VC Might Weapon and a serious contender to the Furnace.
They won't buff raekor any time soon It's the same issue as the sentry DH. Gameplay becomes to disregard intended mechanics, and even do something blizzard might have missed out of their " math machine" and that is the raekor can deal superb aoe damage to a pack, but a good raekor player will do that damage to the first pack, then carry it to the next and do even more damage, then carry them to the next pack to do even more damage and so on, and you can end up with 20 packs ( including elites) that you just pressed a button disregarding all game mechanics, since they are permanently frozen.
Bottom line, raekor is good enough as it is, even the best if you hunt for conduits or go for group ranking. So it will always be an alternative to any build out there simply for the damage per packs mechanic from above.
Its not about buffing Raekers, its about buffing MWs. Yup, I used Rakers as an example but that was to illustrate how you would go about creating a MW that players would pick in preference to a Maximus/Furnace. So its not about buffing sets, but replacing non MWs with MWs using blizzards current approach to creating more rings they hope we will use instead of SOJ/Unity.
But I agree with what your saying about the set its self, it certainly wont get buffed any time soon.
I agree Marantini, anything which works with our builds, especially sets would be welcomed. My conclusion after reviewing all the stats for each class, and looking at the 2 hrs of blizzcon 2014 footage is that we as a class get the least attention.
That legendary power segment on stage certainly didnt focus on a power that was to be used by all classes, there was a lot of talk about wizards. Not against any other class, but Im a bit over hearing only about other class improvements or attention to existing MW equivalent items., especially when ours are the worst performing, the stats back this up.
Either the devs just arent interested in our class, or are more interested in others. Either way, we have the stats now to show just how little MWs are used by us as a class.
and looking at the 2 hrs of blizzcon 2014 footage is that we as a class get the least attention.
Well what interesting and new things or changes do they have for WDs? Other than that statement, I agree. MWs are lackluster.
45% of SC WDs currently use a ceremonial dagger. Of which 95% use a ceremonial dagger in conjunction with a MOJO. MOJOs account for the top 3 (roughly 70-75%) of off hands used with one handers for the class.
As I said earlier, in comparison to other classes, our 14.10% use of MWs shows our class gets the least attention.
Your highlighting my whole point. Why should we be using generic weapons when we have a weapon class. No other class currently does that as you pointed out, because they have build diversity and class weapons which promote this. We do not. As for Barbs getting better sets, thats a separate issue and its a piece of a non set (VWs) not the FC set that is making it the top performer for the class. Which is case in point, this VW items should have been integrated into a MW. Your incorrect in stating we have weapons or shields that provide us with elemental damage. The Maximus, Shaefers Hammer, WOTBK are all generic weapons, ie, every class can use them, they are not restricted to barbs for use only. Which again, highlights my point that we get the least attention. And as for an intel class looking weird using a maximus, of course its weird, intel classes have mojo's and sources etc that were designed to be better than a maximus. Again, case in point for why we need MWs that out perform a maximus/Furnace and promote build diversity for barbs.
Apart from stating you want all barbs to not have MWs that are mighty, your also saying we should be an exception to the current game design and not have any weapons which promote our class or set skills? Thats ridiculous.
I am certainly aware class development of weapons etc costs time and money. As Ive said before and have proven in my analysis, we are getting the least attention of all the classes. Anybody who participated in the 2.1 PTR will confirm the very thorough work and rework (rightly so) of the Wizard and Monk classes. Barbs? After several threads to create more MWs, especially one for HOTA, we received no replies or decent rework of all current MWs when 2.1 rolled out (apart from the FOTVP). Since then most of us were convinced they had been working on MWs and were to reveal these at Blizzcon 2014. And no, instead we have Travis Day admit they have dropped the ball and nothing new as yet.
So devs, now that you have admitted you dropped the ball, create some MWs that are mighty and promote top end build diversity. Ive supplied the data which shows just how few MWs we use whilst demonstrating that other classes such as the crusader have weapons they prefer to the Furnace and Maximus.
The barbarian is designed to be able to use any weapon it can wear, and feel it does the job, that's why the Weapons Master passive is there. Making MW too good compared to the rest will unbalance the while philosophy behind this character, making this passive useless. That's why they continue to improve the class in other places and avoid making MW too good. And again, doing so you basically just adding a weapons to a set, because you clearly want that weapon to work nice with your set that has very specific purpose, not like the crusader ones which mainly buff your damage.
However, you still haven't provided us with arguments to why barbarian should have good MW if the others have really nice class specific weap or off hands. According to diabloprogress the top 60 grift is composed from: 21 Demon Hunters, 1 Crusader and the rest... Barbarians. As for the perfect idiotic question asked at Blizzcon, about Mighty Weapons not feeling mighty enough, you can't really answer with a straight face. You can't use a name as an argument to convey an idea. And besides the whole comparing thingy is downwards stupid. The offhands for all classes give you things like elemental damage, crit chance, attack speed etc, since the barbarian does not have something like this it feels different anyway you look at it. Even the monk, who is similar is using just one class specific item for one of the best builds now, so it's not like the monks are using class specific weapons to destroy the game, but the barbs are very good in doing so with any weapon. And in the case of the crusader, part of its design is based around shields, that's why shields give you build changing bonuses.
And besides, and I continue to bring this up, why do you guys think the devs are more likely to make mistakes and you guys don't?!
21 1
Weapons Master passive is garbage. Perhaps if you played a barb you would know this. MW be too good, ha, there hardly being used atm so how could you even measure something that doesnt exist.
Everything you have quoted regarding game philosophy is in contrast to the actual philosophy, which is items buff skills as stated several times by the devs. This includes weapons. Further the devs have acknowledged MWs are not mighty, ie, they need rework. So how about you stop making stuff up and pretending you are in charge of D3.
Didnt bother reading the rest of your post, you clearly dont play a barb and have no idea what your talking about. Move along.

To assist the dev team Ive compiled a couple of Pie charts and information comparing our current use of 2 handers with those of the Crusader. Ive made some observations and recommendations, some of which I would never have considered until I completed this quick analysis.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current 2 handers in use by 100% of SC Barbarians
http://imageshack.com/i/iqYAw1Caj
Current 2 handers in use by 100% of SC Crusaders
http://imageshack.com/i/p8j1xnJSj
Cheers
