Thanks to loot 2.0, I have been loving D3 again. I played for a while pre-RoS because smart loot made endgame awesome, scoring my beloved barbarian a Cindercoat and soloing high MP with an unstoppable FireSmash build. The same build serves me well at 70 but I find my progression stunted - the same Cindercoat that brought me success at 60 is now a curse 10 levels higher.
That's because it's TOO GOOD. 27% fire cost reduction combined with +16% fire damage adds up to a piece that is so core to my build that I just can't part with it, and Kadala hasn't been kind. I have dumped countless shards on bags full of yellow and even legendary chest pieces. Multiple Chaingmails, Shi Mizus, and a Goldskin later, I just can't seem to get away from the puffy red coat.
My damage is awesome - I can spam fast 10-12mil 100% crit hammers all day long, blowing up packs with splash damage and focusing down elites. I even dropped Ruthlessness because a 17mil smash on an enemy under 30% health was just overkill. T3 elites go down in no time - the problem is, I can't survive long enough to finish the job half the time, and T4+ seems worlds away.
I tried backing off the DPS for more toughness, but any significant tweaks end up making my clear speed painfully slow. I even tried switching to a lightning spec since I got a couple nice lightning drops, but I couldn't go above T1 with it and I didn't enjoy it as much either. Would it be worth swapping out the Cindercoat and trying to stack resource reduction elsewhere? It just seems like a massive DPS drop to try to make up 27% resource reduction on either pieces for a decent chest upgrade.
I know the simple answer is to keep gambling until she gives me a coat that fits, but RNG sucks.
Anybody else stuck in lowbie gear that is too good to swap out?
Yep, I have literally the exact same problem. Got my cindercoat in the weeks b4 ROS, now I cannot part with it, Cluster Arrow costs so much and I cannot live without the resource cost reduction. Its just there until I find a new one, if ever. Level 60 Cindercoat 4 life.
What is your clear speed in T1, T2, and T3 with those gears?
Feels like you are significantly under gear to do T3. Sure with fire damage % your dps should be ok but your survivability is crap. You are on the right direction with those pretty nice mage fist and reaper's wrap.
Keep the chest, work on replacing other gears with gears that have synergies. Craft yourself 2 or 3 set asheara, or aughild to boost your toughness, farm some act1 bounty to get yourself a RoRG, craft yourself a devastator or get a sankis axe (both of them combine can give you 40% fire increase),
The key is efficiency, it's much better to clear at lower torment level at faster rate than keep on pushing higher torment level. Eventually your cindercoat will come! go luck!
Also just something I've been thinking about - a lot of people seem to be talking about Cindercoat being OP. While I can't argue that, a nerf would really suck. Should fire barbs plan for a nerf or is that unlikely?
4 days later, I am the proud owner of a level 70 3-socket Cindercoat! Not the best rolls (fire cost reduction went from 27% to 25) but the toughness increase more than makes up for it.
Of course the RNG gods thought they would be funny and have it drop out of a pile of bones after I spent hundreds of shards on Kadala, but beggers can't be choosers!
