I am wondering if 1stre equals 1armor for barbs, wouldn't it be best to just use red gems in pants and chests?
This will increase ur base dps a lot and also ur toughness by a significant amount...
78 allres = 780 armor is only true if you already have about 1:10 allres:armor rating. That's unlikely for barbarians. What are the usual values for armor and allres on a well-geared level 70 barbarian? Just browsing some barbarians on Diabloprogress it seems something like 12.5k armor and 700 allres. In that case, a diamond provides you with 4 times as much toughness as a ruby.

The only way 280 strength won't be a big dps increase is if you already have a huge amount of strength. I think the amount of strength on level 70 characters fits a pretty small band, between 6000 and 9000 probably. Even at 9000 strength, every flawless royal ruby is roughly 3% more overall damage (9280/9000).
Using Bagstone's ratio of 4:1 for some approximation, every flawless royal diamond is roughly 78 * 0.75 or 59 resist all "more" than a ruby. At 700 resist all, this takes you from 33.33% damage received to 31.56% damage received, reducing about 5.3% more damage.
So, you have a choice between 5.3% toughness or 3% damage per gem slot, give or take, with 9000 strength and 700 resist all.
Theoretically, strength has infinite growth potential (through paragon points), and resist all does not, but it'll take quite a while for people to reach that point, if they ever do.
By the same token, at some point people will want to drop all strength and vitality from their gear and get other (paragon-capped) stats instead, like amulets with crit, crit damage, attack speed, elemental skill; or gloves with attack speed, crit chance, crit damage, and cooldown reduction.
This is all theoretical though and it'd take a lot of paragon levels for this to be the case.

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your awesome calculator! And just one easy question.. for % Damage Reduction.. would I just put 30% in there for a Barbarian? Not exactly sure what to input for that one.
Yeah, I guess you could put it in there to have a comparison to non-melee classes. Not exactly sure how these 30% are applied, but it's safe to assume they just work like any other damage reduction. To be honest, this field was mainly added because of 17% damage reduction from Blur (wizards) ;-)

1 diamond = about 78 resist all = 780 armor.
1 ruby = 280 strength = 280 armor + 280% added multiplier to damage
rubies give ~36% of the toughness of diamonds, but also give damage.

My Barb usually has around 14000 armor and 800-850 resist all, I think. I may be mis-estimating.
