Started a new character a barb and I'm trying to power level him so that I can get good equipment and buy it once rather than multiple times. What are some skills I should use? I believe I'm at 28 or maybe even right at 30. Using a Cain's set, all the +exp equipment I can find, and a hellfire ring. Don't have the gold to spend on a Leoric's signet so that is out of the question.
Should I use a general whirlwind build? Seems to work but I feel that the lower level equipment is holding me back. First time I've played a melee class. Only other character is a wizard and the play styles are hugely different for me.
I'm not sure if I understand this right but is this level or paragon level?
He mentions he just started a new character, Cain's sets are usually around lvl 28 and there is no +exp items at ilvl 60, so I have to assume he's talking about 28, not 60(28)
Whirlwind won't be sustainable at that level because it relies heavily on crit chance, which you simply can't get at those lower levels.
Overpower is kind of unimpressive, but the general game plan is:
Run into a pack of enemies, Ground Stomp, HoTA smash, Overpower if necessary, Rend if still necessary, move on.
Tips:
*keep battle rage up as much as you can
*cleave-asplode is great for when you run into packs and/or if something is on cooldown or you don't have enough fury for hota/rend/etc
*focus as much as you can on large groups of enemies and champ/elite packs. run past everything else
*if you can get someone to get you to act 3, that's the best area for large groups of enemies, if not, just run through sparsely populated areas as much as you need to
*additional movespeed is very nice. You can get this on boots or legendaries. It should be rather cheap at those levels.
*increase the MP as much as you can until you can barely kill elite packs with this method (barely meaning you drop these four skills in quick succession and move on). You should never spend more than a couple seconds clearing a pack out.
Additionally: There are some things you can "cheat" on at lower levels. Put as big a ruby as you can afford in your helmet and another in both of your socketed weapons. There's almost always cheap equipment in the AH, I would check every 10 levels or so. You should be able to replace all of your equipment for under 100k. It's MUCH quicker to level up by killing enemies faster than wasting money on +exp items. Between your helm 20-25% bonus, your hellfire ring bonus, and the MP level bonus, the addition of even +100 exp is pathetic. Once you hit level 50, any level 60 person should be able to help you power level (I can bring a level 50 to level 60 in about 15-20 mins on Hell MP10).
I'm at 27 and not 28. But soon will be at 28. I just got into act 3. For some reason I believe I'm over leveling the game, or at least compared to my wizard I am. But I'm also playing at mp10 and haven't dropped the mp any at all. I have +116 exp after monster kill and bonus exp 90%. Add to the fact that I'm playing mp10 I should be gaining experience decently quick. At times it feels like I hit a brick wall mainly when I have to corpse throw at my opponents. Multiple tries especially on large mobs with harder hitting opponents. My plan isn't really to be over powered at this level but just to get to 60 quickly. Hate the level grind just so I can use decent equipment.
Also at lvl 48 you can get a lvl 60 weapon with reduced lvl requirement. Just go on ah and search for barbarian gear (not for your character since you wont find the lvl 60 gear). You should be able to find a high dps weapon for under 100k and then instakill everything in hell,
I notice that Bliz actually changed the search criterion for reduced lvl requirement gears. Basically, if you are lvl 50, you can see lvl 60 items with -lvl requirement of 10+ now. A few patches earlier you wouldn't see those items.
You can actually get reduced level requirement items starting at level 42.
You shouldn't be doing power leveling at MP10 unless you are facerolling everything. If you are dying against elites, you'd be better served lowering the MP. For example, if you can kill twice as fast at MP5 as MP10, then you are better off doing MP5 from an exp/hr perspective.
Personally I feel that you should do a bunch of runs at MP0 and time yourself doing the same run over and over again until you get a fairly consistent time. Then increase the MP until your time starts increasing and do your runs at that MP. It's FAR more efficient to kill faster at a lower MP than it is to struggle through MP10, even with the exp bonus.

If it's just level, for low level just use fast hitting skills to proc your hellfire ring (one shot) a lot.

I have a lot of fun with http://us.battle.net...ZYcQR!ZY!aZZa.a
