I'm enjoying 2H frenzy/revenge build but it requires more gear then dual wield ww/tornado build, whirlwind build requires a bit more crit from what I read 30% minimum or so (can get 10% from weapon mastery with axe and 5% from ruthless). Other option is 2H seismic slam build which doesn't require that much defensive gear as well.
Must have skills war cry with resistance rune. Leap with armor rune or ignore pain are nice defensive skills. WotB is mandatory dps cd for most specs. Having 1 or 2 armor passives is nice if you have trouble staying alive. You can find complete builds on the forums.
Stats you want strength, crit, crit damage with enough vitality and all ress to stay alive. Some LoH/life regen is nice specially in act3. If you're on a budget you want to focus on dps stats on gloves(upto 10% crit), neck, bracer, rings and defensive stats on the rest preferably with high strength. Weapon with either socket, crit damage or LoH. Neck piece is another option to pick up some LoH.
Dual wield is hands down better than 2 handers, given you get double the benefits of weapon stats.
In my experience life on hit is grossly overrated, at least for revenge-centric builds. In situations where you are in danger of dying, the life gained will not save you. Instead mitigation is your friend, along with smart use of skill combinations to take down elites within certain frames of window.
Crit stats are you key source of damage. As such, you should be using a mace/axe, along with weapon master/ruthlessness as two passive + a defensive or offensive passive depending on your gear setup.
If you are on a budget I suggest you look for items with physical resist or fire resist instead of resist all. People normally dont add premiums to items with these affixes. Reason for this is that only physical/fire damage are unavoidable.
Ideally you want strength/vitality/all resist on every piece with some nice 4th stat as crit, armor, or physical/fire resist but that can be expensive. Start with crit chance on gloves/neck, crit damage or socket on weapon and high strength on shoulders/belt. Just balance vitality and all resist after that, you can pick up some additional crit on bracers/rings.
For dual wield you'll want crit chance on helm (perferably with socket but goodluck finding cheap ones), gloves, rings and bracers. Crit damage on gloves amulet and socketed weapons. You want a little loh if you're going whirlwind build, at least 300-400. 160+ str on shoulders and belt. high vit/multiple sockets on chest and pants. Boots you tend to get low stats so if you're lucky get some stats on it with movespeed and all res. You're aiming for a minimum of about 500 res unbuffed which you can shore up easily with warcry+impunity as you go up the acts. Focus on getting your arcane, physical and fire resist up though because most damage are from those schools.
You can also do 1h shield and get some nice crit chance on the shield (get one with high block 20%+)..
If you're building for damage you need about 30k damage minimum and maybe 40-40k hp to farm act 3 comfortably (dw).
If you're building for the stand in the fire and kill everything, you'll want 50 to 60 hp and much higher all res (800+ unbuffed).
Barbs are really fun. I wish you the best of luck building the gear for it.
Thing is I can't stand sword and board at all.. I'm not rich and have about 4-6 mil to get started
Which is more realistic for me to build a dual wield or 2h barb.. It seems like dual is the consensus from my browsing this awesome forum
Can you guys bring me up to speed with builds or skills that are must haves..
Also what specs should I make sure I get from certain equipment? Such as loh from weapon
Any help is welcomed
