How to kill Ghom, Azmodan and Diablo Inferno as a Barbarian (easy and very cheap gear!)

  • #1

EDIT: I think some people are missing the point. This build is not intended for elites or farming in general. It's just for the bosses, to either get you the achievements or get you further through Inferno.

Hi folks, I decided to make a video about it to show barbs that you can own Ghom, Diablo and Azmodan with cheap gear and an easy build.

As you can see the gear I use for life on hit is really cheap(other than main sword, but you dont need such a sword for the build to work) and my resists are just at 500.

The video should show you the pattern I've been using for Ghom, but you can use this same pattern for Azmodan's black circles and Diablo's fire DoT and they will heal you. So these bosses will basically heal you.. pretty much.

Cheap and easy way to kill them :)

If you want me to post videos showing kills of Diablo and Azmodan with this build I'll gladly do so!

Use Furious Charge to cross the door (before animation). If you are lucky they still didn't fix that.

How come I cant see the link?

Well thanks for the effort of making the video
But to be honest it is nothing new. The overpower+LoH trick is what most people were already aware of, certainly if they would have been on these forums for the past 2 weeks there have been several threads and video's about it.

The bosses are the most easy part of the game anyway. I would be more interested to see some about the champ packs

A 3 mil weapon is cheap gear? o.O

Pretty much what Noctus78 (I'm a derp) said. I'd heard Ghom gave people trouble but I figured out a way past it on my crappy barb. Even Azmodan was a complete pushover with a mere 1200 LoH, 750 res and 11k armor.

These "boss kill" strats are fairly worthless except to people struggling to get past that boss to the next act. If you are struggling to kill a boss, champion packs are going to walk all over your face and you probably shouldn't be moving to the next act anyway.

I know for sure it doesn't much matter that I got past Ghom and Azmodan because white mobs in A4 crush my soul.

Whats "mere" about those stats? I finished act 4 with that... Elites and all. I agree though, boss kills are useless when you want to show that a build works.

Mere being that the last time I checked, Act 3 and 4 (and I think a lot of Act 2) would whomp all 46k of my hp away in an instant, much less give me any chance to proc a revenge and surround myself with enough to counter-heal. But it sounds like I should try again if you claim to clear A4 with it.

I should also note that I did it with 9k dps.

EDIT: Just checked, and yeah, unless you have millions in gear to up your dps to ludicrous amounts, you didn't clear A4 with those stats.

40k hp\1.1loh\700allres\15k dps. instantly dying on any pack in a2 with this build.

Shows how much time I spend on these forums. I'm not used to names not being right above the pic, I guess.

Wow, the Cheap Barbarian End-Game Build on the News post is Very misleading. End-game is not the easy-as-hell bosses, it's the difficult champions. Either the OP has no clue about D3 or the Mods at diablofans.com don't...take your pick, but someone is an idiot here.

    CHEAP!?!?!

That mainhand he has is worth 50 mil. How can you possibly call this a cheap build?
  • #13
No such thing as cheap LoH gear (let alone "very cheap!")

This isn't a bad build, it's one I was using for a some time just to farm Act 3 packs. Keep in mind I haven't seen the video (at work, YT blocked), but I saw the build on the main page and I was streaming with this build for some time as I was playing around with different ideas. About the only thing I had different is I would occasionally change the WotB for Revenge with Provocation, but WotB was great for boss kills as everything else in the build was a bit too weak to deal with short enrage timers.

This build absolutely shines in large packs, even with elites, especially when you have Revenge going off over and over. It's hard to use against single targets sometimes or small packs of hard hitting monsters due to revenge not giving a lot of health.

I had very little LoH when I tried this in A3 and did okay, but usually got father in a group. I think it's far from useless as some have said, it just needs a little tweaking based on your gear and style of play. I would say the things that helped me was despite my low LoH (maybe 600, my weapon had no LoH and I was using a star Amethyst, rings had maybe 200-300 total) I had a good 800+ DPS weapon which really helped take out the harder hitting monsters. Also while it has a lot of skills for straight up tanking, you want to make sure you keep moving and playing smart while your skills are on cooldown. It's not going to save you from everything, especially incoming high damage projectiles.

I found it funny to kill Belial with this build by standing in his green novas while Ignore Pain was up :)

As a final side note, builds like this for boss kills should be welcomed. I made several builds that let me farm a2 with varying degrees of difficulty, but I would run into a brick wall at belial due to the very short enrage timer. The unfortunate part is that belial's enrage is pretty much game over as you really can't DPS while running away from the explosions and I've seen it cover the entire walkway :( High DPS with lower survival skills are usually needed for bosses like that.

If the explosions start to cover everything and there's clearly no way to avoid them, that's the enrage. It's something like 5 minutes I think. I can manage Belial just before enrage on my defense barb, though I had to dual-wield because I was getting about 600k off before enrage with my 9-10k dps. DWing brought it to like 11-12 and that was enough. 10k ar and 850 res means you don't have to dodge anything except meteors but it takes ages.

I'm pretty sure I hit the enrage on Ghom too, but I just barely had enough LoH/regen to not care about it.

I doubt this build will stay viable much longer, so use it while you can. Passive damage (reflection, in this case) really shouldn't be triggering life-on-hit, especially not at the rate that it does.

It's also questionable whether void zones (et al.) should be reflectable at all.

Oh yes, I was most definitely talking about that enrage. With my pure defensive build I didn't need to avoid anything, even the normal explosions from his large AoE, I would just reflect it back in his face with Ignore Pain/Contempt for Weakness. It meant I had 90% DPS up time as I would only have to dodge one explosion or two and would never lose my Frenzy stacks. Sadly, even with this, he would enrage with about 10% of his HP left.

I either had to swap to DPS armor/weapons as you suggested, or change the build up to kill him quickly, losing my stacks. For instance, with the same defensive gear, if I picked up WotB/Insanity + earthquake then I could kill him just after his 2nd large AoE. A huge difference in time, but that build wasn't working well for pack farming as my gear didn't have enough other survival stats.

I think I'm at something like 8k armor and possibly close to 650-700 res all (higher on physical). At the time I had more DPS and less LoH as well. Finding upgrades has been very slow coming.

I can agree that it's a bit questionable if the damage returned should be giving as much LoH, but I don't think it's unreasonable that it reflects ground based damage sources. It's far from OP, I typically see lots of number fly over the heads of monsters when I pop my Contempt for Weakness rune while standing in a combined Plagued+molten or even desecration, but it doesn't seem to do unreasonable amounts of damage. I can't see killing elites using just their own damage being truly viable, it's mostly just supplemental to your own DPS.

    Elite packs are easy
Just watch Kripparian on his stream - He is playing the whirlwind barb everyone is crying for.
He is just killing everything - He did it as Sword and Board and now he is doing it with all out.

The possibilities are there - People just don't use it and rather cry on the internet.

He showed every version of a barb is viable and perfectly playable

Every version is viable.. with the right gear to support it. That's the caveat.
