* I understand some of the options are not confirmed to be compatible with the Barb, but for the sake of a full arsenal let's pretend.
* All items are categorized to standard Diablo 2 weapon classes. So Maces = Flails, Polearm = Scythe, and so on.
I love playing as a Barb for the lush array of weapons to choose from. Being more of a DPS player, I sway from weapon to weapon trading for higher damage, though some make me feel more powerful just by how they look. Mauls and their bludgeoning qualities are one of my favorites.

One weapon class that I enjoyed messing around with was the flail. Flail wasn't an option, so I chose maces. Although, there are no viable flails (dps wise) in Diablo 2 they are my favorite. As to why... I think they're fun because you never see them being used as a weapon for dps, hopefully they'll implement some decent flails in Diablo 3.
I guess that when i think about it, when i usually try out an RPG for the first time, i usually pick some sort of a Bow/Sniper/assassin type of class first.. (Except for the D2 assassin, i hate never really played her).
Life is only another stage of death, in fearing death you can not live life to the fullest. Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible.
Throwing axes my seem cool, but I could just never get over how impractical that seemed. I mean on a real battlefield with humans if you could throw an ax in their face then I'm sure you'd be nice and squared away, but you wouldn't bring that as your man weapon to the battle.
And polearms are totally underrated for their awesomeness.

i used scythes on them sometimes in d2
some of the scythe weapons can get pretty retardly strong and be used through all of normal and nightmare
hard to find them though
so for this game i kinda hope they balance the weapon styles out more so there is no strongest weapon type
so you can pick anything and still be just as strong as someone who picked another weapon type
the differences are just in how that weapon is strong rather than some type of sword being the strongest or something =3
also hoping 2 handed axes to be used as 1 handed =3 (though that prob wont happen xD axes are heavy)
Polearms are so sweet. I just love the idea of coming down on an enemy with an axe on a stick. Or jabbing them in the gut with a spear.
So true lol, that's how I feel about 2 handed swords or axes. Huge damage, one slow powerful hit, big effect. Though I expect all (or most) weapon types to do similar or equivalent damage, it'll come down to what you like as a weapon class instead of what is beat for your Barbarian. I personally like big powerful weapons though .

Exactly, hopefully it'll be like that. One handed weapons to less damage with faster hit rates, while 2 handed weapons do more damage with slower hit rates. So it becomes more about preference, and less about what does more damage in general.

Does anyone ever remember anyone in D2 running around with an axe? It was sad really that no one did. I loved axes but there weren't any really really good ones or any ways to turn an axe into something really cool. And I'm talking those huge ones that was like the size of your head and torso combined.
Yeah there wasn't any good 2 handed axes, the only good axes in general for end game were Breath of the Dying. Even the best Pikes weren't great come end game. Though there was one Maul that got the job done, I can't remember it's name though.

I like polearms and long swords. The one handed longer type swords. They always looked cool :D. Also like axes and most melee weapons.

Sorry guys shoulda had in the OP that I categorized the weapons in standard Diablo 2 classifications. So flails = maces, hammers = mauls, and so on.

I like the Hammers since I feel it suits the Barb since he is all about smashing things to dust and not about cutting them in half  .
I like the Spears since they are long range and works nicely with WW or with Concentrate.

And polearms could do a lot of damage but slow attack speed.
It's all about DPS I guess.

I think I did have a real nice rare elite 2-handed axe back in the 1.08 days of LoD.
