We all know that area damage is not completely working properly but can it still be utilized? I currently have about 90-98% AD atm. Now with HOTA having a 100% CHC build and consistently procing bloodshed would this not be considered useful to add AD on gloves or shoulders or perhaps just rings to avoid losing the vitality gain? So i crit anywhere from 4-10billion on average. Although area damage does not get the damage multiplier from focus or ik 6 piece or bracers. Would say 40% area damage from the rings combined for solo or 64% area damage in group be worth it over str on rings or damage against elites or something else on weapon? In higher greater rifts that spread damage would definitely add up in the long run for more damage and having a heal monk bunch everything together in group play would cause your HOTA to cause area damage on top of your bloodshed causing area damage. So would str still outweigh it in the end? I can see not putting it on your shoulders or gloves for the purpose of having a large HP pool and as well as having ele dmg on your ammy over AD. But also what would your goal for your hp pool be for solo and group? perhaps you could put area damage on your shoulders as well if you can manage it instead of 15% life?
Hey dude, there's this thread on the official forums by Nubtro and here he recently explained what's going on with quite a bit of details.
Basically, AD is not working with hota bracers and the focus ring so it's dealing a lot less damage than it's supposed to. Whether it is worth it to still go for it or not, i don't know but having that extra toughness could certainly help you go for higher GR.
There's also this thread by Page for more general info about AD.
I have read those threads and thats why i mentioned it not being as high of damage or multiplies not being added to it. Which is why I was wondering if area damage would outweight 500str or 650 or perhaps 15% life since AD even though lower can be extremely effective since if things are grouped up can proc off of your HOTA and bloodshed. Since streamers liked chainer are saying its worth it on weapon for group play, then perhaps its worth it to a certain degree for solo play.

Depends on what you're aiming for i guess... If it's id level speed gr's like 60's or so, then yeah going for full dps is probably the best and since ias on the gavel is pretty much useless (not sure but that's what people say) all that is left to go for, after you have the str and the 10% dmg, is either elite dmg or area damage. Since in speed gr's you are mostly killing white mobs, area damage might give you more of a dps boost than dmg to elites...
If you are aiming for high GR like 70+, then from what i can see, more and more people are going for the vitality roll on the weapon. Having those extra 1400 or so vitality points, gives you a huge toughness boost that allows you to survive attacks that would one shot you otherwise and that's what all there is to it in the current meta - Not getting one shot so the monk can heal you back up.
Edit: I actually have no idea whether having ias on the gavel is good or not.
its working the same as any other build. probably much worse since SS doesn't hit as hard or as often. the issue is that it does not gain the benefits from damage multiples such as bracers of destruction or bracers of the first men, or the 6piece ik set bonus or focus and restrain or even convention of elements. i believe it benefits from straight str and ele dmg and thats really it
