was thinking fire damage, BK weapons, magefists, cindercoat, F&R (or maybe skull crasp with COE), iceclimbers, deathwatchmantle, fox paulds, pride of cassius, Leorics crown.
I just used whatever I had in my stash (and on me). Made two attempt at getting it.
First attempt was a few seconds above the 15 minute limit - second attempt was done in 9 minutes (got great density, but kinda shitty mobs and only a speed pylon).
A few items from various sets (with high stats ofc.), but not getting the bonuses of course. Added my BK-weps, strongarms, CoE + Unity + Mara's Kaleidoscope.
You can use any amulet - as long as it's decently rolled - but seeing as quite a few RG are using poison, that's a pretty good choice because you're missing survivability from sets.
Cube:
Furnace - Hexing Pants - Obsidian Ring
If you don't have a Furnace in the cube, I guess a Scourge would be fine (if you get big density) for added damage.
Skills:
Whirlwind w/ Blood Funnel
Threatening Shout w/ Falter
Ancient Spear w/ Harpoon (great for getting mobs tight together, to get more use of PE)
Battle Rage w/ Bloodshed
Ignore Pain w/ Iron Hide (I used Pride of Cassius as well)
Wrath of the Berserker w/ Insanity
Passive:
Ruthless - Weapon Master - Boon of Bul-Kathos - Rampage
If you have a Hellfire amulet you're using as well and it has one of the above, then pick Brawler as well (or something you see fitting).
Legendary Gems (with my levels included):
Bane of the Stricken (58) - Pain Enhancer (59) - Taeguk (60)
Currently paragon 564 as well - thought I might mention that, since that helps a fair bit as well, in regards to damage and survivability

what is pe?
why didnt u use F%R with unity in cube?
5. A bunch of free damage items like Death Watch Mantle, Flamewalkers, Pox Faulds, etc.
6. Unity and Convention of Elements or Focus + Restraint
Run around and Double Rend density. HotA for single target.
High level gems help a lot. Use skills and gems to fill gaps in gear.
Cube items like Furnace, Leoric's Crown, Unity, etc as needed.
link to ur profile?
tried it earlier today, wasnt dying but didn't do enough damage with ww fire build.
was wearing: bk weapons, ancient cindercoat, ancient magefists, leoric crown, hexing pants, ancient waste boots, ancient bracers with fire damage, as and chc, ancient skull grasp, ancient unity, ancient shoulder that does the knife aoe, pride of cassius
gems: gogok, teaguk, pain enhancer all 3 at lvl55
diamond in head, remaining gems rubies
cube: furnace, fox pauls, zodiac ring
skills:
ww volcanic
threating shout, falter
blood shed cry
wotb insanity
ignore pain, ignorance is bliss (for healing)
overpower with extra chc
I definitely don't recommend using WW. WW is only strong with the Wastes set. It's a very weak damage ability without the set enhancements
Treat this Challenge just like you would tread leveling from 1 to 70.
Get the slowest, strongest 2H weapon you can find and abuse our high % weapon damage abilities as you see fit. Using this mentality, I completed the GR40 Challenge on my first try using the following random stuff I had in my stash with 3 minutes, 19 seconds to spare after 2 deaths:
Ancient IK Helm
Ancient Raekor Gloves
Ancient Fury of the Ancients
Non-Ancient Borns Frozen Soul Chest with 2 sockets and
Hellfire Amulet
Ancient Depth Diggers
Non-Ancient Bracers of the First Men
Ancient Lamentation Belt w/Life per Fury spent
Ancient Gravel of Judgement
Ancient Lut Socks
Focus and Restraint (bad rolls)
*All gear standard rolls except where noted
Cube: Furnace, Pox Faulds, Obsidian Zodiac Ring
Gems: Bane of the Trapped, Bane of the Stricken, Molten Wildebeest's Gizzard
Abilities:
HotA: Smash
Rend: Bloodbath
WotB: Insanity
CotA: Together as One
Battle Rage: Bloodshed
Furious Charge: Merciless Assault (to proc F&R)
What I could have perhaps done better/differently:
1) Definitely room to include Ignore Pain: Ignorance is Bliss here and Cube the belt.
2) Definitely should have been wearing, not cubing Pox Faulds.
3) Death Watch Mantle would have been a better choice for shoulders
4) Gloves could have been better (Mage Fist or St. Archew's Gauge come to mind)
5) Chest was awful, almost anything could be better
6) Focus and Restraint could have had better rolls
7) Helm could have been Andariel's Visage or Leoric's
8) Perhaps Rend was not really necessary since I had the HotA Weapon and Bracer in hindsight. This could free up the belt slot for Cord of the Sherma, Pride of Cassius, or Sash of Knives. Rend is a very strong ability with the IK 6pc set, but it does notably less damage even when double stacked without +Rend Dmg and +Physical damage in support.
Tried this quite a few times and finally managed with:
Gear
Fury of the Vanished Peaks (Ancient) 4.2k
Hellfire Amulet Rampage passive
Magefist
Cindercoat
Pride of Cassius
Pox Faulds (doesn't really make a difference imo)
Ice Climbers (didn't matter)
Shoulders with the Ancient one so it didn't matter - you can use the blade ones if you want
Strongarm Bracers (procs with Seismic slam)
Coe and Unity for Rings
Gem
Bane of Trapped
Bane of Stricken
Pain Enhancer
Skills
Bash - Instigation to regen rage
Seismic Slam - Fire rune
Battle Rage - Bloodshed
War Cry - Hardened wrath for evasion
Threatening shout - falter for damage debuff
Ignore Pain - Ironhide I find i didn't really need it with unit
Note: Life regen is important to stay alive, I had life per wrath spent on belt and weapon (totally about 3.5k) and about 10k LOH (paragon points and gloves)
Cube: Furnace, Bracers of Destruction for Seismic slam damage and Obsidian
I tried the Hota version but kept dying. The key to this conquest is being able to survive as well as deal enough damage to complete it. I struggle with either or in my first 3 tries with HOTA barb. Hope this helps someone! Was able to get some good damage with COE and falter - 800m-1b to kill elites quickly
Does anyone know of a good build that for achieving this conquest (The Thrill: reach greater rift 40 solo without using in class set bonuses)
was thinking fire damage, BK weapons, magefists, cindercoat, F&R (or maybe skull crasp with COE), iceclimbers, deathwatchmantle, fox paulds, pride of cassius, Leorics crown.
In cube: furnace, hexing pants, unity
havent tried it yetthough

But i wonder how he heals himself, as on his gear or passives or even talents there is nothing that heals him..

I needed the cooldown that the obsidian ring gives. More cooldown = More Berserker = More damage and survivability.
F&R wasn't needed for this at all.
PE = Pain Enhancer
I used a regular hota build, and equiped the blackthorn set (it's allowed :p), cindercoat and magefist. Got it with 5ish minute left on first try,
Super easy for Barb. REND!
1. Big 2H Weapon (HotA Hammer likely best).
2. Hota Bracers
3. Rend skill
4. Rend Belt
5. A bunch of free damage items like Death Watch Mantle, Flamewalkers, Pox Faulds, etc.
6. Unity and Convention of Elements or Focus + Restraint
Run around and Double Rend density. HotA for single target.

GL everyone!
Yea used a standard HoTa build. Had an ancient gavel / FnR / cindercoat / random legendaries, and cubed Furnace / strongarms / zodiac.
how do u stay alive though without healing such as ignorance is bliss?
