Is my equipment bad or am i playing the wrong way?
Both.
If you want to go higher than mid 40's you need to use more damage reduction abilities. With a 5 IK/3 Wastes setup you should either have double Unity or switch your CotA rune to Together as One. The most important thing is to survive, after that you can fish for density.
You made a few mistakes rerolling gear though. You need WW dmg on your boots but your maxed str instead, you need vit on pants but you maxed str there again, belt should have %life but you maxed str again, your rings both have vit but should have dps stats instead, all the diamonds should be rubies, helm should be cc+ww if you have it, weapon should have vit instead of ias, and neck needs cc/chd/socket even if it's not a hellfire (mara's is especially good).
Rend is not good for dps so you can either drop it or switch to mutilate rune for 10% dmg taken debuff on mobs.
There's some work for me to do i guess. So i will most likely try to get new items on the slots you mentioned and reroll them as you said.
What should i use instead of Rend? You say it its no good for dps so should i use something like Overpower? Or maybe go for Ignore Pain to get more survivability?
To max out my legendary gems i have to get to higher GR's or am i missing something? At the GR40-42 i do atm most of the time my gem upgrades fail.
Edit: About the Build... Is there a big difference between Wastes / IK and only Wastes with BK? In most of the Videos i watch on youtube the Barbs are using Wastes / BK. Is it that much stronger?
at greater rift 40 you should have a 100% chance to succeed a rank 30 gem
As long you have 25 of each you should be able to it well.
Go for 2 x unity setup as well it helps immensely.
this is my waste barb slightly different than yours. only thing that's a pain for me is jailer. and i can do g-rift 45 with few seconds to spare even though I have really shitty weapons. http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Saphyron-2533/hero/58298810
Just noticed I had focus restraint on. I normally use it for speed farming t6. Replace belt and boots with ik and get unity rorq that's how i normally go when i get to 45
Thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciate it!
@Saphyron: Hm maybe i was on a lower GR because i remember my last 9 gem upgrades failed. You play a BK build with IK set pieces? Ok didn't know you could do that. Always thougt BK barbs play Wastes set only. Seems i'm not up to date at all ^^
I have a pair of BK weapons one of them ancient but i never used them cause i had my ancient IK BB which i felt had good stats on it even without rerol.
I hope i can find a second unity soon guess that should give a little push.
Thats just my personal build you can go with the 5-set 3-set ik build. but unity is really needed here.
Also together as one is really helpful as well but it can generate a shit ton of fury problems if going 5/3.
And to those who say rend is bad for dps clearly don't understand 5/3 waste ik build. you apply rend for 2 reasons.
first to apply a 15 sec bleed to mobs that is not close all the time. basicly pain enhancer gives you AS which increases your overall dmg. but 3sec is not long and mobs often go out of range. which means the rend which applies a 15sec bleed is really helpful here.
The second reason is you need to use rend 8-10 times per WoTB to have a permanent uptime.
50% dmg plus all the other stuff 24/7 is worth using rend over.
I'm currently experimenting with my passives and Battle Rage to see if I can't ink out any more dps during trash so I have more time to burn the RG.
From what I've been able to gather from my gearing and playing is that to really start pushing 45+, you need maximize and optimize your stats (with ancients) and iron out your build to simply get the most survivability. The build itself has the dps to push 45GR. (I don't even have an ancient weapon and I'm doing 47.)
Pushing beyond 45 is unfortunately a game of paragon. You gotta start grinding that paragon to get past 45, plain and simple.
The biggest problem i have when i'm using Together as one is the fury generation just as Saphyron said. And with problem i mean it's non existent. So i guess i'll have to wait for my second unity.
And besides that i'll just have to grind for ancient items then.
For the time being, I suggest you get rid of Berserker Rage passive and exchange it for Unforgiving since you wont be generating enough rage to keep up the Berserker Rage passive. Keep the Together as One rune on Call of the Ancients until you get a unity, and change the rune on your Rend to Bloodlust to heal up after procing Nerves of Steel, or simply taking too much damage. That should bolster your survivability by a lot, and keep your swinging.
heyhey. Its 3ik + 5 WW he HAS to use ancients fury. please stop posting stupid stuff thanks.
you can switch away but it is insanely hard
If you want to use together as one you need to switch some talents around.
Get swords to the ploughshares(will get nerfed in 2.3) with enough crit you are simply swimming in health globes. together with reapers = max fury
switch berserker out with unforgiving or animosity unforgiving give you 2 fury per sec instead of -1 per sec and animosity gives 10% more fury when picking up health globes.
So to put it into perspective.
ancient with together + swords to ploughshares + reapers + unforgiven = unity effect and ancients fury effect without having them.
Just no that it can be hard to keep fury up if there is no mobs. so you need to use ww every 4sec when not in combat to keep taeguk up instead of spamming it.
Also if you play on eu you can add me saphyron#2533 and ill gladly play around I de 99% of all legendary's whenever I play. and on average 5 unity's per week.
Though I must admit been busy lately on ptr to test out kanai's
On RG you won be swimming in HG-s. But i get everyone wanna say something diffrent, but the one i posted is the perfect solution for him. He has every gear for it, no ned for any tricks, no hard or anything. And proven to work well.
True striding giant will make it easier to survive but you loose 50% dmg on it.
Personally I have problems getting further since I simply don't have the damage output.

Hi everyone.
I have problems to get past GR43 with my Barb. Currently i play 6 Wastes / 4 IK.
Is my equipment bad or am i playing the wrong way? I did one GR44 but got nearly oneshot by the riftguardian. Or is the missing unity my problem?
Here's my Char link: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Allenschezar-2548/hero/46741
Thanks in advance for any help.

This is my Barb, more or less running a similar build to what's been said and shown, and I can consistently clear 47.

I also recommend equipping your Templar with this little gem. It's literally "Get any single target, such as the rift guardian to 20%, cheese mode."

Love this thing. Make sure it has attack speed so your follower can keep whatever he's hitting stun locked.
Ok i tried the things mentioned here.

I dont get how you cant do 43+ I can do 47ish on my barb with alot worse gear then what you got....
