Hey guys, today I go over the changes coming to the Barbarian class in 2.3. Wrath build variations will become even stronger with the introduction of Kanai's Cube (Hexing Pants and Obsidian Ring being cubed) and the changes to greater rifts (more of a focus on trash clearing, which Barb excels at). I also discuss the new bracers, a possible Hammer of the Ancients build, and clear a G50 in half the time for fun - so we have a piece of history to watch once the Whirlwind snapshot interaction with the bracers is removed. Enjoy & discuss!
I think nothing will change at all, except for putting extra damage in the cube. I hope they will keep true to their word and make either slam or smack build viable. As of right now all barb legendaries are useless (once they fix the ias bracers). But there's no way they would give a class +0 useful items, right?
It will only work if they increase 6p IK bonus to complete with WW set.
I've been reading some number crunching on the D3 Barb forums and yea, Frenzy just doesn't seem like it's gonna work. Great sustain, but not enough damage since no multipliers, even with crazy weapon effects.
I believe next PTR patch we're likely to see HotA/SS builds with 6 IK though.
Misha: Do you think the Hota/SS builds will use Raekor and IK to generate fury via charge (and clear mobs) or just straight IK, and do you expect the weapons geared towards SS/Hota to be used too?
the new shoulders are pretty much useless for HOTA build, but they will be handy for SS.
Edit: One can free passive slot from Unforgiving by using the shoulders (since Unforgiving is the only fury generation you might need in this build), but i believe they are better armor options to cube.
Thats just not true. You are gonna use them , not cube them. What better shoulders are there
It depends on the build. 6 wrath/BK doesn't even use IK set, so shoulders are useless. For WW you'll probably cube Hexing anyway. But yes, they do have a place, especially in 6 wrath/4 IK setup, although you're trading 50% DR for Hexing pants.
Don't forget about the ACTUAL HotA 2h Mace, whichmakes u able to spam hota wile using berserker rage passive too.
Yup, Gavel of Judgment will be BiS for this build (either used or cubed), but it's not always free HotA's - depends on density. Similar to how Hammerdin set works actually.
If you cube Bastion Revered for 10 Frenzy Stacks, that means you would do 25% increased damage and 150% IAS at full frenzy stacks
If you cube Depth Diggers that's 100% increased damage
Third cube is up for grabs I can see a few options here
Gems:
Simp Strength:= ~50% damage
Bane of the trapped:= ~30% damage
Last gem probably be either the new gem or wreath of Lighting to help with AOE since I think single target wouldn't be a problem
Weapon: I was thinking Corrupted Ashbringer
Ring 1: If you picked no rune for your frenzy, and you used the frenzy belt, wouldn't that mean you would have 100% up time on COE?
Ring 2: Any ring could work here as long as it gave damage
So before everything you would be looking at : 405% damage and 150% IAS which seems not bad.
Because none of the sets really work for you you, you would focus on Black Thorns and Auguilds. You could also fit in frost climbers, an immunity neck and cube for a second immunity. That would give you an additional 25% damage and 25% Damage reduction vs elites.
You build around Frenzy, Revenge, Battle Shout and just fill in the gaps about how you want to play.
But if the belt say that Frenzy gains the effect of all Runes. Now my understanding is that in situations where a skill has the effects has all of the runes, the rune you select dictates what elemental effect the skill has. But, if you don't select a rune, and it still has the effect of all runes, wouldn't it count as all having the elemental effects of all the runes at the same time which would mean 100% COE up time.
With changes to bracers coming to only affect HotA, I don't think pet build will be a thing. If the bracers still affected sheet APS (and just excluded WW), then pet build might have been viable with TnT. You'll still probably see some good damage output from Ancients when using 6 IK for HotA/SS, especially on single/low target count using the fire rune, but it won't be a focus I don't think.
Seems like the current meta on the PTR is Monk/Barb in various combinations. I suspect that will change with future PTR patches. Cleared a 58 2 man last night with a Monk/Barb. Neither of us are geared top end and only 400 paragon.
The reason you're seeing (and will likely see) more barbs in 4 mans (or groups in general) in 2.3 is due to grift changes in general.
Less damage from monsters (WW barb is already very tanky) so don't have to worry about surviving.
More emphasis on killing trash mobs (WW barb excels at this).
Less emphasis on RG (WW barb is bad at this anyway).
No more permanent CC, so scouting (like Raekor's used to do) is going to be a thing once again, to a certain extent (don't want to scout too far or you get no pylons). WW barb is awesome at scouting.

Thoughts?
The part about full uptime on CoE is pretty interesting. I'll have to try it out!

MHG:
I have been running almost the same build on the PTR but with FNR and no HOTA.
Cube passives are the same.
Wear FNR
Lacuni Prowlers for bracers
Swap out War cry for ground stomp or cleave if you choose. Make sure you have almost 50% CDR and ground stomp is always up.
WW Crits for 250-450 million.
This build walks through 50+ with ease.
Most of all the Cube opened up the Barbs builds and as you stated in your video we might see a "Pet" build and other options with IK!
Thanks for the video keep up the good work!

Hi everyone
I watched your video and really liked it thanks for that.
I just wanted to ask is there going to change anything with the fact that barb is nearly non existent in 4 player GR groups?
I'm not playing for that long but one thing that always surprised me is that in the leaderboards there are no barbarians in the 4 player GR groups.
Seems like the current meta on the PTR is Monk/Barb in various combinations. I suspect that will change with future PTR patches. Cleared a 58 2 man last night with a Monk/Barb. Neither of us are geared top end and only 400 paragon.

I'm excited to see barbs in groups again!
