Ok so I just got back into Diablo recently and found out about PlugY, I had never played single player and wanted the challenge of /players 8. Things have been great, but I was playing windowed mode and the small resolution was bugging me.
So I came across the High Res Mod and was trying to install it, but I was having trouble editing and saving the .ini file for some reason. I got frustrated and moved the PlugY.exe file out of the Mod PlugY folder into the root Diablo2 folder, that didn't work, so I moved it back. Problem is my character is now reset to level 1 with no items.
First how do I get my character back? Second, anyone know what i'm doing wrong to get high res mod working?

That seems highly unlikely, what's more likely is that PlugY has somehow started to look inside the wrong save folder and has found another character you've made with the same name. Make sure the PlugY.ini file points to the same location where your original character is saved.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Ok I found a "save" folder on my desktop for some reason. Inside are 3 files 0.svt 1.svt and sharedstash.bin
I moved it into the Mod PlugY folder and its still loading the level 1 character. I also can't edit and save the PlugY.ini file to try and point it towards the diablo2/save folder, I keep getting a "cannot create <path>plugY.ini file make sure path and file name are correct"
You can't save the file? Do you have the folder set to read only?
In any case you don't necessarily have to change the save path, you just have to make sure the files you want to load are in that folder. Usually that should be a folder called save in the PlugY folder.

I was able to edit the PlugY.ini file, stupid UAC wouldn't let me unless I moved it to the desktop first even after setting write permissions. Man vista sucks.
But still no luck. If I reinstall PlugY will it keep my character?
What should the files in the "save" folder be?
Like I said all I see is 0.svt 1.svt and sharedstash.bin, is that normal?
Ok so if I run PlugY.exe from the diablo2 folder it takes about 5 mins to load, and when it does my level 54 guy shows up as well as my Test char, but its not PlugY and I dont have my sharedstash.
If I run PlugY.exe from the PlugY folder it takes another 5 mins to load, Test shows up as well as the Level 1.
If I run the Survival Kit shortcut, it loads right away, Test shows up and the Level 1.
I don't know how you have your PlugY set up, but mine is as follows:
Before Installing PlugY:
1: Go to the Program files directory in your hard drive and look for Diablo II.
2: Copy that folder and place the copy in your documents folder, no renaming is necessary.
3: Go into the save folder and clean it out.
Installing PlugY:
1: Install as usual, but when it prompts where you want it installed to, look where the end of the path is and it should say Diablo II.
2: Browse and navigate to where you copied the Diablo II folder and click open with the Diablo II folder selected.
3: Install.
4: Navigate to the D2 copy folder and look in the Mod PlugY folder.
5: Right click on the PlugY.exe file and create a shortcut. Move that short cut to your desktop and rename as you like.
6: Double click the PlugY.ini and under Save Path, in the ActiveSavePathChange. Change the 0 to 1.
7: In SavePath, put in the file path for the save folder that you cleaned out earlier. (Open your Windows Explorer and the file path is in the title bar. just copy this when navigated to the save folder.)
Playing PlugY:
1: Double click the icon and get ready to slaughter.

I'm not having any issues running PlugY, I can run it right now and start a new character. The problem is I can't run it and use my level 54 paladin for some reason. I used it with him from the very start, so i'm not sure why I can't see him anymore.
If you can't see a character it is because he is in another folder and PlugY isn't looking there. That is the only reason a character won't show up, because D2 doesn't check the patch version or game version on characters before it shows them on the character select screen. You could have a character from Median XL in that folder and he'd also show up on the character select screen so long as he was in the proper folder.
I have no idea what your folder structure looks like, but so long as you haven't mistakenly overwritten him yourself you need to move him to the proper folder. Easy way to do this is to create a new PlugY character called "plugyfolder" (or something), see where that file is saved on your hard drive, and move your original lvl 54 character there.

I have got a problem with my Plugy Installed D2SE with plugy in it
Playing version 1 13 Everything is working great Stash stats and skill readjustment.
But when i made my first ladder-only runeword obedience - it didnt work
Opened Plugy.ini. in the D2SE 1.13 directory in it it is said that Active ladderonly runewords is 1.

No idea, but keep in mind that it will look pretty shitty, at least from my experience.
