So I am working my way up with a necromancer, but I am saving all of my skill points for the time being as I intend to focus on bone spells. The problem I am having at the moment is that my archer and I seem to get routed more often than not by the named mobs.
Is this something that I just have to deal with for the time being, or is there some combination of armor / tactics that I am overlooking that will make life a little easier until I get my first offensive spells? (I'm not putting more than 1 point into teeth because I sort of hate that particular spell.)
Kind of missing some info. Ummmmm You can play on PTR or something and always respec when you get there lol

Hans, You had it right in your first post that we would need more information.
If it is a version with no synergies there is little incentive to save too many skill points for later, in my opinion. Monactos could max skellys first and still have enough points later to max both bone spear and bone spirit.
I am playing on Battle.net, softcore (Is hardcore available from the beginning?), level 10, I have one point in increased damage (I am holding most of skill points to use later in Bonemancer specific skills), current patch.
Basically, I am concerned that by holding my skill points for later use I am gimping myself currently, and will waste most of my resources on retreating and repairing.
A friend told me to just run the first two quests repeatedly until I get to 12 and get bone wall, which will make life easier if I get some ranged action (namely teeth) going on.
So I guess what it comes down to is this : Is it prudent to hold my skill points for later the expense of a few corpse runs in Acts I and II?
Since you are going to be using the bone skills why not invest in teeth since the points in that will enhance your other bone skills. You may need to drink some mana potions since your mana pool will not be that large.

Considering you are playing on bnet you have these options:
Find a game and leech
Find a rush and leech faster
Play through the game normally with team members
Now given those options, in normal you can use regular attacks and beat acts 1-2 easily.
As far as skills go, well you are getting bone spear and spirit, so you need to get teeth to max level to get max damage so...why not just put it in teeth? Don't waste points on curses you won't be using like dim vision, terror, or attract as at high level gameplay these are useless...in fact in basic Diablo gameplay these are useless.
If you are SOOOOOOOOOO against getting teeth, get someone to get you a hellforge hammer which has no req and you will be 1 hitting most stuff in act 1-2 with no problem.
Since you said bone spells and not poison spells, unless you're just going to spam bone prison or something you're going to want to max teeth eventually, anyway, since it's a synergy of bone spirit and bonespear. In that case, I'd really say just cave and use it.
Other than that, go with the Hellforge hammer idea, like vlad said.
u also dont need to add to anything until lvl 30. just do some runs. after 30, add to all the major bone skills and max the synergies last. casters tend to start slow

I never find it a waste to put 1 point in all the curses, unless you can get it from an item.
I made a hardcore pacifist necro once that only used curses and Bone Prison. He made it quite far in Hell. I do not remember if he beat Hell or not. That was during the 1.09 version of D2. He was quite fun
He used terror when he needed to as well as attract is very useful to get other monsters to attack a single monster and you can use Iron Maiden at the same time as well. Dim Vision is one of the better curses against ranged characters and creatures that use summoning since they will not summon if they are blind.

Ok, I'm going to try and put those points into teeth and see how it goes. I did not fully understand the benefits of the synergy bonus, but after looking into it, and getting your good advice, I am thinking it may be a worthwhile investment.
Well everything has been pretty much said, uhmmmm I always go with decprify curse (im not sure if this is how its spelled) Its the curse that slows monsters and amplifies the damage they take. It looks like a blue flame.
That is a nice curse. If I remember correctly that lower resist did lower magic resists it might have been on an older patch. I have only been playing mods since 2003.

Still easiest solution is to get enchanted or get a hellforge hammer and do this:
Trist runs till 15
Tomb till 20
Cow till 24
Ancients
Baal till 40
Go to NM and Baal till 60
Go to Hell and Baal till whenever
Or if you are rich, Uber and hit 90 in an hour.

Thanks!
Is this Hardcore or Softcore
What level are you?
Which Curses have you invested in?
If you are getting routed than you need to see about advancing slowly and to use some of your curses.
Dim Vision curse will blind monsters so it they may not see and make life easier.
Confuse, Terror, Attract are very useful curses to use.

My advice would be to invest in teeth.
(Of course, this advice doesn't apply to classic.)
