Fucking killer. I think I'm going to just not play until this is fixed. It's getting worse by the hour.
Immediately upon the Ladder Reset for Season 6, someone posted a method in which to crash a Diablo II server to induce rollbacks. Sad to say, a server crash doesn't just affect the player initiating the crash, but everyone else on that server. There are also more heinous things one can do with said crashes.
With that said and with what the crashes fall under, I highly advise everyone against engaging in this act. Intentionally crashing a Diablo II server for whatever reason repeatedly can be viewed as a DoS attack and that in itself is punishable by law.
Quote:
A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person or people to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely. Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers. The term is generally used with regards to computer networks, but is not limited to this field, for example, it is also used in reference to CPU resource management.
One common method of attack involves saturating the target (victim) machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. In general terms, DoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.
Denial-of-service attacks are considered violations of the IAB's Internet proper use policy, and also violate the acceptable use policies of virtually all Internet Service Providers. They also commonly constitute violations of the laws of individual nations.
I posted a message similar to this on the Battle.net forums warning users against engaging in this act, and Blizzard deleted it 30 minutes later, so I can only assume they are planning some form of punishment.
Again, I highly advise everyone against engaging in this act.
All we can do is hope Blizzard provides a quick fix for this rather than waiting around for months like they did in Season 3 with the Meteor-Wall dupe method.

Well I'm complaining and I haven't tried rolling anything back and I am having problems. Quick fix do another reset and completely reset the game all items, skills, and stats. That would also take care of the spamming problem you wouldn't be able to sell items if you don't have them to sell.
You just got those groups of retards that try to ruin d2 in every way possible. Ooo i must dupe items so i can get rich and fuck the economy up! woohoo!! the ladder is only 2 days old and we managed to fuck everything up yeepeey... anyway fuck this shit man.
It's really ruined the game. May be Blizzard want to make d3 as wow, with payment by month? And that why they didn?t make good support on free battle.net? =/

This really sucks. I play the game normally and had just killed mephisto but before i could portal to the Pandemonium Fortress, the game reset and upon entering with my character, I cannot redo the quest but the compelling orb is still there. So now I cannot advance down into the durance of hate. I will have to bring another character up. This peeves me to no extent. What stinks is I had the waypoint to level 2 and that is gone too.
Remember, this isn't Blizzard's fault... nobody's perfect, and this bug was unknown until recently. They'll get it fixed... just give 'em a chance instead of bashing Blizzard for every minute flaw.

When the Brotherhood of Destruction ran last night, we had frequent crashes. I think we attempted the second quest in Act 5 four times before finally being able to complete it. Also, during one of those attempts, I was given Gorefoot and equipped it. When it crashed, the boots wound up back in the givers inventory. We attributed it to the dupers being able to cause said rollbacks. It was annoying as all hell. However, we perservered and still had a blast doing that mindless clickery that is all-out bloodshed and carnage. And throwing jokes around while we were at it, like the following...

Well, this is related with a change they made, right? Did this ever happen before?
If not, then thats Blizz's fault. They obviously changed something that created some kind of vulnerability for that kind of thing.
I really hope for you guys that they fix it fast, but how? That kind of issue could be deep, this is an old game, they obviously did not want this to happen.
They could atleast post something about the problem in there forums and try to reasure everyone that they are trying to fix the problem. WOW D2 has really gotten worse since I played 2 yrs ago and it was because I got hacked as to why I quit and now it seems to be ran by hackers. I just don't see the point in buying a game to play only to cheat/hack to beat the game. Whats even worse I think is when you by the game and then buy the items for your character thats just sad!
I dont think anyone here has too much reason to complain. I mean we have all had fun with this game for 9+ years and im actually still suprised that blizz is still putting as much resources into a game that they get no revenue from except for new copies bought. If anyone is to blame its just people who have become too bored or too engrossed in the game to play as it was intended, like we all remember playing it in the "golden years". Diablo 2 is almost dead, BUT we have diablo 3 to look forward to. Try and squeeze what little entertainment is left with it, then let it rest in peace.

(This isn't really directly at you, SFJake, but in general)
If Blizzard did change something that created this type of vulnerability, and it wasn't known until it went live, then give them a bit of time to hotfix it. This happens in WoW all the time, as certain changes won't be known to cause errors until it goes live. That's just how software development works.
If this is a server-based issue that's been there this whole time, and wasn't known until recently, then again, just wait for the hotfix to come out.

It's very likely that this was always present, but with the old duping method patched, now dupers have no choice but to initiate rollbacks.
Even if they don't dupe themselves, these forum gold assholes know full well where the items they trade come from, they all turn a blind eye until something like this happens. Then suddenly it's Blizzard's fault and they start screaming on the forums and in chat.
It's almost worth the crashes seeing them piss and moan.
I'll give you the low-down on what I know. It's called the Birthday Rollback. Yes this was present before but it was never released to the public before. Many different people discovered how to do it but always kept it to themselves or sold it for their own profit.
This was a deliberate "Fuck you" from someone who knew how to initiate the rollback and decided to release it to the public on the day of the ladder reset to just fuck Blizzard and the new ladder. The worst part is this method is extremely easy to do which means as more people get wind of it the more frequently the servers will crash.
