Wouldn't it be awesome if blizzard surprises everyone with bringing higher resolution in 1.13... even if its only 1024x768 or something. Don't know if that would be possible or maybe too much work . But that would be a big surprise.
Silly you, modern day games can support any resolution.
Unless those games are 2D, those require new 2D models for every resolution. But 3D games will support it.
To answer your question, D3 will most liekly support anything between 800x600 and 2400x1800 lol
Would not happen unfortunantly since they would have to resize and rescale every sprite lol...way to much work...wish it would happen tho
It'd probably be pretty easy to just change the resolution. However, I foresee two other problems.
1. Diablo is now balanced around 800x600. People aren't supposed to see further than that. Teleport would be more effective etc.
2. Enemy AI. Monsters don't actually do shit unless you come near them. Higher resolution means you'd see monsters standing still doing nothing at the edges of your screen all the time.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I'm not sure about this, but I think it's actually dependent on your light radius for most monsters (I think it excludes bosses because it looks like they have their own to me). Could be wrong, though. I haven't played in a bit.

That could be entirely right, although it seems a weird constant to base monster behavior on. I mean, light radius ought to only indicated how far you see, not how monsters see.
And besides, why would Blizzard want to make monsters less mobile if you had a small light radius. Isn't that exactly the time when they should be running around you in the shadows?

Light radius did actually determine aggro in D1. If you couldn't see a monster, it couldn't see you. There were certain strategic advantages to gotterdamerung for catching succubi and the like.
This isn't how it works in D2 at all. Different monsters have different AI for aggroing, but the majority wake up from an off-screen distance even in 800x600. If you play with some of the current resolution mods and push up to 1680 or so you can see how monsters just sit there until you get within a certain range.

They could just change the resolution if they wanted to like modders have easily done but to make the game look good at a higher resolution they have to rescale all the sprites and shit like i said b4 which is something the modders would not spend the time to do
What is this higher resolution fix/addon described "on the net"? Are there any legal (ie not blizzard bannable) mods that allow diablo 2 to be stretched to a higher resolution?
Also, are there any current mods that let you run diablo 2 in a windowed mode?

I doubt that the mod is bannable as it doesnt really affect the game that much and it isnt a hack....but dont take my word on that!!!!!
Go to you diablo 2 icon on your desktop(or the exe file itself) and in the Target line(what exe the icon runs) It should say program files/diablo2/diablo2.exe or whereever you installed the game.......type -w there and you can play in a window
EDIT: it will look like this "C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w
Remember to put a space in before you type -w
thanks for the tip. Alt tabbing out of D2 running 800x600 moves all my desktop icons into a corner (annoying). windowed mode will make things much easier

lol I cant believe you didnt know this ive done this since release hahaha

It would be exactly the same, the sprites and images in Diablo are of a certain size. Chagning resolution does rescale them. A Fallen always takes up the same amount of pixels on the screen, same thing ith buttons and landscape etc.
Now making it look good would mean Blizzard would have to convert all their old 3D-animations into 2D sprites again and insert into the game. I have no idea how game code works on that level, but I can imagine there are all sorts of obstacles in the code that would create bugs if models were swapped around. like that.

Increasing the resolution beyond 800x600 is definitely not supported by Blizzard , and you should not do it on B.net.

Wow, that is good to know, thank you.

Whats with that "omg, it would be so hard"? A random hack can do it. So screw that crap, please.

But...it's been 10 years @ 800x600....I think it would mess up my eyeballs.
