Well it has been 6 years since playing D2LoD, and I found my old discs in a box on a shelf in my closet and have encountered some difficulty installing LoD.
I have successfully installed and have been playing D2 for a couple of days, but when I attempt to install LoD, it always seems to stall.
After putting in LoD, I click on "Upgrade to Lord of Destruction", and am then asked to insert the Diablo II "Play Disc", which I immediately do. My computer then continues to install a portion of the files and then stops.... After some time, it will say "Insert 'Play Disc'", which is already in. I have tried inserting all of the other discs and then reinserting the Play Disc and all sorts of combinations. However, nothing seems to work. I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has encountered this problem and possibly has some answers for me. Any help is greatly appreciated... Also, the files that are being installed when the install stops are something with "D2Music", if that is any help.
Thanks to anyone who reads this.
Edit: I am using Windows Vista and understand that there may be some compatibility issues, could this be related?
You could just put your CD keys on your b.net account and download the game from Blizzard...lol.
Do you think I would be able to install it though once it's been downloaded? That's my
only problem is getting it to install. D2 has been working fine.

Is it a new computer than last time? Idk for me I couldn't get vista to work with it without trouble either.
EDIT: Just saw your edit, so yeah it might be just vista. I got it to work with it, but not very well.
It is a new computer, but I am able to play D2 just fine.
had this problem before, but honestly can't remember how i resolved it.
i think it happened with two different disks but then randomly worked on one installation.
if i were you i'd get the download then just keep trying.
good luck

I had this problem.... Are the disks scratched?
My solution was just to use the .iso files and mount every one at once
But like Lestater said, you should try use that new Battle.net service and tell us how it works out

This is what I suggest doing. I just recently took advantage of the CD-Key registration deal and put all my game discs (I could find) on my account. It's great because then you can pretty much play all your Blizz games from any computer- like a friend's.
Not to mention if you lose the discs and CD-Keys.

Disks are in pretty good shape, no scratches that would inhibit the install i don't think. I will try registering the CD-keys through B-net this afternoon and let you know how that works. Thanks for all of the ideas guys!
If you still have problems with manual installation, which setting are you downloading? (Singe/Multi/Multi full)
Well I originally installed D2 with the 'Full Installation' and that works fine. The only option when installing LoD is 'Upgrade to Lord of Destruction'. Would changing how I install D2 possibly affect installing LoD?

No. When you install LoD, the install asks for the play disk to copy over all of those files that are not included in your regular D2 install (for full install, that's basically just sound I think).
If you choose something other than full when installing classic, you'll simply have to copy over more files before installing LoD.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I installed the 'Full' version, it still asks for you to insert the Diablo II 'Play Disc'... I also tried entering my CD-Key at Battle.net and then downloading LoD. However, when i go to install it, it stalls at the same spot...
So... I have downloaded the .iso files from B-Net, but when I attempt to install, installation still stops at about 15%. I will continue to make installation attempts until this works, hopefully I can get it working before D3 comes out! Thanks, everyone, for the advice. It is nice to be on a forum where most people have your best interest in mind.
